Shopping Cart contents too big in IE7

When I do a test checkout in IE7, and get to the checkout confirmation page:

https://www.liferingtest.com/index.php?main_page=checkout_confirmation

the contents of the shopping cart, with the totals, are so big that they run behind the right column, to the extent that you can't read the dollar totals. This is not good.

I have Web Developer for FireFox and it tells me I'm looking at checkoutSuccessMainContent and the font size is 14.4px which is much too big in IE7. I can't for the life of me find anything in my CSS which sets a separate font size for this, the font size settings are extremely general. Help? Where do I fix this?

The site is https://www.liferingtest.com and as it's currently in full test mode, you can put in a fake order and it won't do anything.

Re: Shopping Cart contents too big in IE7

<< this is shown in the top left-hand corner.

Seems to be some garbage code/text from somewhere which may or may not be causing the problem.

If you re-upload your Zen Cart index.php page it might get rid of it.

I cannot see the Checkout Confirmation page that you see as I do not have an account. If you do the Checkout then copy & paste that page somewhere, others can see it and help with the problem; without having to create an account.

Re: Shopping Cart contents too big in IE7

Website Rob, I actually know what to do about the pothooks, I just haven't had time to clean them up. It's a Microsoft thang.

This site is set up with COWOA so you don't need an account to make a purchase; and I absolutely guarantee that as long as it has the banner that says "AUTHORIZENET IS IN TEST MODE", no completed order will EVER be charged anywhere.

I didn't think of doing a screen shot but I should be able to - probably not till tomorrow though.

Re: Shopping Cart contents too big in IE7

I haven't used COWA but it doesn't seem to do much?

https://www.liferingtest.com/index.php?main_page=no_account

Still requires inputting of personal information, but I dirgres..

I cannot get past the "checkout_payment" step 3 of 5, as there is no CC to choose and I don't know how many digits to enter.

In these type testing situations, best to keep things simple and allow for Checkout using Cheque/Money Order. Makes it easier for those of us trying to help.

Re: Shopping Cart contents too big in IE7

Well, I now have a nice PDF that shows a screenshot of the problem page, but I can't post it here because it's bigger than 48K. I guess I'll have to send it in a side note to anyone who's kind enough to volunteer to look at it. Meanwhile I'll see if I can make a smaller PDF.

It isn't the whole page, it's just the part that displays the shopping cart contents in invoice fashion with the totals.

For background reference, I've recently learned that, to solve an unrelated issue with sales tax calculations, I'm going to have to upgrade to 1.3.8 - is there any possibility that 1.3.8 behaves better than 1.3.7 in terms of how it displays in IE7? I have no issues with how 1.3.7 displays in FireFox, but in IE7 it's been a disaster from the get-go - everything is MUCH too big.

I discovered by experiment that changing the text size in the browser makes everything look smaller but does not solve the display problem I'm complaining about.

Re: Shopping Cart contents too big in IE7

Let's try this: I've got a GIF that shows my problem and I finally (Thank you, FastStone Image Viewer!) got it small enough to upload. Take a look at this screen shot and see if you can give my any idea what I have to do to fix this.

Re: Shopping Cart contents too big in IE7

From what I see in the image, it would appear the TABLE is too wide.

<table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" id="cartContentsDisplay">

Not sure what file it's in but once you find it, edit the "width" to about 500px to start and adjust to suit.

The learning is in the doing.

Re: Shopping Cart contents too big in IE7

I found the table using the Developer's Tool - it's in /includes/templates/common/tpl_main_page.php. However, that's not it. I modified it to 500px and the whole page went to 500px - a long narrow tube. And the dollar amounts were still covered. I modified the table width to 90% and the whole page got narrower but the dollar amounts were still covered. I've attached a screenshot of the page at 90%.

I still think this has something to do with the font sizes that IE7 applies but I can't find where to tinker with them. I may go back to the CSS and play with the body font size again. Another alternative is to try to play with the right and left column widths. Any better ideas??

Re: Shopping Cart contents too big in IE7

Update on this situation: I've finished upgrading my system to ZC 1.3.8a, and it looks like SOMETHING, I have no clue what, has made the checkout confirmation page display beautifully. The bizarre thing is that I did earlier testing, and it looked WORSE than before. Then I discovered that the Better Together and COWOA addons weren't installed right. So I fixed those, and ran some more tests, and now it looks gorgeous.

It worries me when computer systems "heal themselves." But at this point I'm too tired to complain.
