new and in a mess with downloads as attributes

I have been trying to create downloadable products on recently installed zen cart (no previous experience) All seemed to be going well untill I tried to make downloads free. I've got option name "downloads" and a choice of values but only realy need one "zip [DOWNLOADS]".
So I insert Option name "downloads [RADIO] and option value "zip [DOWNLOADS]" and then try to insert the file name which I have uploaded to the FTP in the /download folder. Instead of the green dot for valid file, it will not add the file as an attribute but instead has the following messgage at the top of the page highlighted in pink "Attribute Option and Option Value Do NOT Match - Attribute was not added - : TEXT"
I'm not sure what I've done, I did try to change the product type so no price would show but this happened and I changed it back to product general but this is still happening!
Can anyone help?
I was trying to get automatic downloads without going through checkout but not sure if this is possible.
Any help would be gratefully recieved.

No. At the present time, all products -- whether downloads or not, whether free or not -- must go through checkout.
If you want downloads that are not tracked and have no security around them, you'll need to upload the files to someplace on your server and post your own links to them someplace on your site.

As for setting up downloadable products, here's an FAQ on the subject: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=71
Perhaps it can help point out anything you've missed.

Re: new and in a mess with downloads as attributes

Thank you Dr.
I did use the tutorial, I think it's just getting used to everything that's my prob. It's solved now but had to replace with back-up files and start again.
Thanx again
