External pages linked to Zen Cart shopping cart

Hi I dont know if I am posting in the right category but does anyone have an idea of how to set up an external link that would direct a user back to my zen cart shopping cart contents page and add the product.

For example I would like to manage all of my products and main store under one domain... but may set up individual product squeeze and splash sales landing pages on unique external domains and I would like for my Buy Now or back links to direct the user immediately back to my main store and at the same time add the product to the shopping cart or checkout page.

It's easy enough to link back to the Zen Cart product summary but I would like to take it a step further and actually put the product in the cart for the user and they end up on the Shopping Cart Contents page.

Basically it would go like this:

  1. Buyer lands on an external domain splash or squeeze page (something like https://www.myuniqueproductpage.com)
  2. They read the sales copy and decide they like it
  3. Click on Buy Product or any of the other various links on the sales page
  4. Are directed back to my stores shopping cart with added product https://www.mystoresmainpage.com
  5. Here they can either decide to check out or will be exposed to other products

My thinking is that sometimes it makes sense to market individual products outside of my main store but buyer would be directed back at the moment they were ready to buy and not distracted by landing on the Zen Cart product summary page and have to click "add to cart"

It seems there should just be a simple hyperlink string to insert but I don't know what this would be?

Any thoughts would be helpful! Thanks

Re: External pages linked to Zen Cart shopping cart

It is a bit more difficult than that due to Zen Cart having to create a unique session as a security and tracking measure.

I do not know how to create this from an external link but maybe another will respond?

As I understand it, this would work as long as the customer didn't return to your non-Zencart pages. If they did, the sessions problems that kobra mentioned would apply.

Re: External pages linked to Zen Cart shopping cart

If I understand this correctly you can not click on link for some site and go directly to the product page in Zen and have them order the product? The user most go through the main page, find the product in your category list and add it to the cart?

If you can go directly to the product page where do you find the product URL's

Insight please?!?

You can specify the URL to your product page ... when they go there, they can click to buy your product by adding it to their cart and continuing through checkout.
No need to go to your home page or search first.

This is not how Zen Cart is designed to be used - - It is designed to be your website and uses security items to assist and control a shopping session. So what you desire would be better served with a "buy now" type of script
