Link exchange sidebox and page-text customization

Hello,

I've created a new thread 'cause can't find much info on this.
I've recently activated the "links" sidebox for links exchange. It works fine but have noticed a few problems with the text definitions and with the popup help boxes on the submission and link pages:

1. Here: http://www.thequintessence.biz/index.php?main_page=links_submit

I found this line in my includes/languages/english/links_submit.php:

define('TEXT_MAIN', 'Please fill out the following form to submit your website.')

but the text doesn't appear on the page. Do you know why?
Then, on the same page, when clicking on the popup help link, the box that appears has a black background and no text in it (even if defined in my links_submit.php). Where can I fix this?

It appears that you are not using the most recent version of Links Manager (3.4.0)

The problems you are experiencing have been addressed in this latest version.

After running the sql file must I upload via FTP all the files included in the links manager folder or only those related to YOUR TEMPLATE?

What a learning curve...

You can open the sql file with any text editor.

You should upload ALL files and folders included

Open the zip file

run the included sql patch using the Zen-Cart Sql Patches tool
(admin -> tools -> install sql patches)
For best results, cut-and-paste the code into the query field and press 'Send'.

Before uploading change the YOUR_TEMPLATE directories to match the name of your custom directory.

includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE
includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/YOUR_TEMPLATE
includes/languages/english/html_includes/YOUR_TEMPLATE
includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE
includes/modules/sideboxes/YOUR_TEMPLATE
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/

The files are arranged in the same structure as Zen Cart so you can FTP the admin and includes directories to your server.

After doing this I ran the "upgrade" sql patch and uploaded all the files included in the upgrade folder... but when refreshing my site's page half of the site was obviously gone! So I restored my backup file and everything went back into place... except for the category links... when clicking on them from the links box now I get this message:

"1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1

Running the uninstall sql patch first must have deleted something necessary for the upgrading process... I think. How can I fix this?

Uninstall does exactly what it says - it will uninstall everything.

Since you restored a backup

Open the upgrade folder and run the update_links_manager.sql

I checked the links you mentioned in (FF, Opera, Safari, and IE7) and didn't notice any misalignment(s)

To change the font style, open the links.css and links_submit.css stylesheets and make your necessary edits.

Strange, 'cause I also use IE7 and can see the misalignments... haven't you noticed the right sideboxes falling out a little from the main body on the "Links submission" page (https://web52.secure-secure.co.uk/thequintessence.biz/index.php?main_page=links_submit&zenid=c0ea2bc656f57f784f18e08f2ccd982f%29? I can see this right under my "who's online" box and on top of the "currencies" box...

Also, on the "View All Links" page (http://www.thequintessence.biz/index.php?main_page=links&zenid=c0ea2bc656f57f784f18e08f2ccd982f), the link "eShops" should be under "Blogs"; "Information" under "Clothes and Costumes"; and "Services" under "Directories"... they seem to appear one after the other but as if missing a step...

What can I do for that black background in the "Links Help" popup boxes, clyde?

Yes, it was the browser cache alright. Now both pages are displaying ok. I've also solved the popup black background problem, just added this code in my stylesheet:

-(copied the sql file begining here, is this ok? SET @configuration_group_id=0;

Please disregard the 1064 error, line 1 in above post. Found a fix in the forum post #95 thanks.

the remaining problems still exist---the tables don't exist. could still use some help with this.

I know it's not magic but.....all the tables are now present under "extras" as per your new sql patch.

If you will, could you briefly tell me what I did incorrectly?

I'm not sure what happened but I'm guessing that after you got the first error and then found the fix that you didn't check the rest of the original sql statement which also contains the information for the creation of the tables.

Your right I didn't check the sql file after the first fix.

I had similar issues when I installed this mod (v3-5-1) from the "New Install" files.  I'm quite happy to report, the fix above did the trick and I can now get to the Links & Link Categories under the admin > Extras tab now and it all seems to be working just dandy.
