Linking attribute values to to product values (for custom gift baskets)

Hello,

I'd like customers of mine to be able to create customized gift packages from the products that I offer. In a general sense, the items included in the basket will be fixed (ex. 1 soap, 1 shampoo, 1 body wash etc), but I'd like the customer to be able to choose the specific soap, shampoo, and body wash that they want from the various soaps, shampoos, and body washes that I offer. Currently the only way that I can do this is by manually creating a mirror of each of my products as an attribute; this becomes problematic as I start to add more gift packages to my site (ie. one with soap, shampoo, and bodywash, & one with soap, shampoo, and moisture cream).

Is there anyway to create a link between my attribute values and my existing product values; this way if I adjust a product price, name, or picture I won't have to adjust these corresponding values for every gift basket product that refers to it.
