Re: newbie help

Hi,
You sould replace your index.htm page (comming soon page) with a redirect page (google for html redirect) pointing to www.bigaaplefta.com/zencart.
So anyone who enters www.bigaaplefta.com will be transfered to zencart folder.

Re: newbie help

Good job on moving your cart to the root directory.

'All those ads' can be removed in various places when you customize your cart.

Re: newbie help

stevesh is right. Once you start customizing your Zen Cart, much of that will disappear. The rest you can turn off in the admin.

Re: newbie help

There's the tutorials/FAQ link at the top of this page and amazingly enough there's a copy of instructions in the folder called DOCS.
Don't even have to remove the shrink wrap:smartalec:

Re: newbie help

If you try to "Wing It", you'll wind up with an albatross around your neck!

Read some of the tutorials and check out the override system before you jump in.

Re: newbie help

Many get the false impression that Zen Cart is going to be simple because it's "free".

You'll find that some folks charge a lot just to set up the cart. It's so powerful that any changes in one area can affect many other areas.

If you have the time, start with the overrides and create files for your own template. Even if it's a copy of the current template, you can change it without doing much damage.

Then, head to the admin and start with the le4ft-hand menu. Work your way down that till you've looked at everything it can do. Move to the next and do the same. Continue till you get to the end. You'll not only be an expert by the time you get there, you'll better appreciate the power of Zen.

Re: newbie help

i started doing that just starting on the left hand side in admin and going down each one
but a lot of the items are in french to me im new
do u think that the book will really make this a lot lot easier for me

i mean i cant even find how to change where it says SALES MESSAGE HERE

but i did sucessfully add a product and photo and price and add the paypal moduke

i guess my problem is more just getting it to look more like my store then a zencart webpage

if you look at https://www.bigapplefta.com
you will see what i was able to do with quick shopping cart

if u look at the same address but .info u will see how little i can do with zen

i know this is me being new
but dont seem like there is a really good newbie guide
unless i just cant find it yet

Re: newbie help

One thing about this forum... No one likes to "spoon feed" anyone. You will get more help by doing as I said and going to the tutorials/FAQ link at the top of this page. When there, click on All Time Favorites. When you're through with that, go back to the tutorials/FAQ main page and click on Template Customization

Folks here will be happy to show you how to fish but few will catch 'em, scale 'em, and cook 'em for you.

As others feel that you are not just trying to get free setup, they'll respond with help.
