have customer upload image for customization?

Hello, I am thinking about adding customized products to my website, is there a way for the customer to upload and image to me, (at the product page and then browse for the image and it will be sent to me)or any other suggestions on how I can do this.. Thank!

Re: have customer upload image for customization?

Create an Option Name with the Option Type of: File

Note: you do not create Option Values for this ...

Add the Attribute to the Product and select as the Option Value the:
TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ONLY ATTRIBUTES]

The upload will then be found in the:
/images/uploads

and it will be renamed to a number.ext this number will match the one listed on the Orders details ...

NOTE: the number will only "appear" to match the orders_id as a coincidence, this is not always the case ...

Re: have customer upload image for customization?

Check that you have the Option Name setup for TEXT and that you have highlighted that Option Name and the Option Value: TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ONLY ATTRIBUTES]

Re: have customer upload image for customization?

Hi again

Yes I hadn't done that but even now that I have I am just seeing an empty text entry box with the word File next to it. I guess I had expected to see an 'Upload' or 'browse' button to allow customers to browse their PC and upload the file needed. What am I still missing?

I appreciate your help

Re: have customer upload image for customization?

If you want the customer to be able to do an Upload then you want to set the Option Name type as a File ... and when adding the Attribute pick the Option Name that you made and the TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ONLY ATTRIBUTES] ...

Re: have customer upload image for customization?

Doh! , I miss-read your original instructions and created an option name of File instead of using File as the option type.

I must read post thoroughly

Re: have customer upload image for customization?

I was wondering why does zencart rename the uploaded file? Im trying to set up an upload area as well, and since im have the customer upload media files such as MP3 and WAV they need to be in ZIP format. When I test out the function it renames the ZIP file to a number like 1.zip.

Is there any way to maintain the name of the zip file the customer has labeled it?
In the shopping cart details it states the correct name of the file, but not in the uploads directory.

Re: have customer upload image for customization?

Fred and Harry want to upload the file:
TheWayWeWere.mp3

Somebody is going to get overwritten ...

So ... the files are renamed by number.ext and reference the original filename in the database and on the order ...

Re: have customer upload image for customization?

Hi again

Is there an easy way to replace the upload button with one of my own that matches the site scheme?

Hi linda,

Is it possible to add the order number in the renamed image file? Like 24333_1.jpg. After we download and process the file, it's hard to find which order it belongs.

Also, I tried to download the file from store front: http://www.mystore.com/store/images/uploads/1.jpg

But got
403 Permission Denied

You do not have permission for this request.

What I need to do so our employee can download this file directly (no ftp needed)?

Thanks a lot.

Re: have customer upload image for customization?

Not without a lot of customization ... the upload is done before the order is created so the new file name is already generated ...

You would need to customize an additional routine to take the uploaded file and rename it again after the order is made ...

Re: have customer upload image for customization?

I have looked everywhere and tried everything.
Have everything up to date.

IH2 installed.

All I want it to do is simply rename the image upload in the admin..new product.

Thanks

I do the same thing and found this very useful:

I am having the same issue, and we were able to download these files directly before upgrading. Is this due to new security features in 1.3.9h? Can customer uploads in the images/uploads folder only be accessed via FTP now?

Thanks!
