Catogories on the main page

I am having a little problem working out how to get something that resembles this on my main page http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/8413/pagelayoutpreviewrk6.jpg

I would like to be able to have that kind of layout on the main page where u click the images then see the appropriate products. Is there anyway to do this?
