Shipping and attribute combos for multi-product sites?

:clap:Good morning, all. Just wondering if anyone has, or can, come up with a plug-in that would permit our being able to pick shipping variations by product, or at least, by category. Also to be able to set a quantity variable that would require the purchaser to pick a given number of different products in a given category for shipping by a set method. This would involve both shipping and attributes.

I’m running the current version of ZenCart with 26 categories and over 700 products, some of which are drop shipped and I set price to include shipping, using the free shipping module. I have items that we ship from our location using the choice of USPS Priority or UPS ground. If I turn on the media rate, that is the defauly shipping value and requires my putting notices on the checkout page regarding media shipment requirements. One of our categories consists of over 600 used books. It would be great to activate USPS Media shipping rate only for this category.
We have other items in other categories that would be nice to offer USPS Priority only (or UPS as an alternate choice) shipping.

Is anyone else out there looking for a similar plug-in?

Basically, we have products shipped by us. We have products that are drop shipped and we also have products that are downloadable. Everything is working great for us with the only exception be the shipping modules. We use PayPal standard with ssl (not shared) and have managed to configure some pages lying outside the catalog folder permitting purchases to be made and redirected through our ZenCart store using one page checkout. Everything is working super with various plug-ins that many good folks have come up with to assist the ZenCart user. Thanks gang and keep up the great work.

Agreed, Ron. A shipping option/module that can set rates on a per category basis would be most helpful. Even better, the option would also be able to hide the per category rate when the order is mixed (items from multiple categories).We have a standard/premium distinction among products. Our premium products are heavy, and we would like to discount the shipping on these since the customer is already paying for premium and doesn't need a huge shipping charge.

Currently, the only way to achieve this result is to assign certain products a fake weight, and then use the table system in a way that assigns that fake weight to a particular shipping charge. Then, for items we don't want to have this shipping option, we set the table so that this shipping method is obnoxiously high for the items, "encouraging" the customer into the method we want them to use... Definitely not the best solution.

Any suggestions or mods would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Pricing the shipmenst obnoxiously high is interesting. I might try something like that, although I'd rather not. I'll betcha some genius out there can and will come up with something to solve our problems, particularly if enough interest is shown. Your suggestion just might work on a couple of product lines we have. I think if I saw a $1,000 shipping fee for a book, I just might be inclined to select a $2.80 media rate. Hmmm?
