Can't create admin!?

HEELP, I wanted to change the admin password from Tools>admin settings and thats when everything started. It wouldn't accept the new password after trying over and over again. So I deleted the admin and wanted ao make a new admin but it still gives me an error with the password although I made sure it was long enough I kept getting the message : " Your new Password must contain a minimum of 5 characters." in red so now there is no admin at all

Where can the bug be? Is there a file I can replace? I was installing Captcha and other stuff just before that happened...

You can rebuild your admin accounts using this FAQ: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=2

Re: Can't create admin!?

didn't help. As I said I deleted the admin so there is no admin at all at this point

SQL query:

DELETE FROM admin WHERE admin_name = 'Admin';

MySQL said:

#1146 - Table 'plumber_Joomlabak.admin' doesn't exist

Sounds like you're looking at the wrong database. Zen Cart is not Joomla.

Re: Can't create admin!?

it was correct. I built the behind my Joomla.

How can it delete "admin" if there was no admin. The last thing I saw yesterday was that I deleted the only admin account **and couldn't create a new one **because of the error that passwod must contain 5 characters...

Any idea what might have caused this bug?

Re: Can't create admin!?

bug?

You went and deleted all your admin users.

Now you're trying to follow a properly-documented FAQ article which explains how to put back at least one Admin user so you can access your data.

But you're looking in the wrong database. Or at least in the wrong table in the database.

Maybe when you installed your site you used a table-prefix such that all your Zen Cart tables start with a "zen_" prefix or something similar. If you did, then you'll have to adapt the table name in the FAQ to add the zen_ prefix for both the DELETE and INSERT statements.

Re: Can't create admin!?

Hi again,

I already deleted the whole thing and reinstalled a new copy, but why I am still interested in this is because of the fact you haven't answered yet that I was trying to add a user thrugh the admin before I was logged out (because I had to sleep and was timed out) and kept getting the error Your new Password must contain a minimum of 5 characters and no matter what password I tried with different usernames and different emails it wouldn't create a new admin.

Your sql query is if I loose mt password in a normal case and resets the admin or am I wrong. Why do you think it would have fixed this issue?

I wanted to change the admin password from Tools>admin settings and thats when everything started. It wouldn't accept the new password after trying over and over again. It would seem the root of your problem is there. Something must be broken in one or more customizations/addons added to your site.
On a fresh clean uncustomized install of the current version of Zen Cart, I can change passwords easily.

molumania:

So I deleted the admin and wanted ao make a new admin but it still gives me an error with the password although I made sure it was long enough I kept getting the message : " Your new Password must contain a minimum of 5 characters." in redAgain, on a fresh uncustomized install I can add a new user using the minimum of 5 characters password, and it works fine.

molumania:

Where can the bug be? Is there a file I can replace? I was installing Captcha and other stuff just before that happened...
I would recommend researching all the customizations you've made to your site.

Re: Can't create admin!?

if you read my first post, and your last post then you will realize that I repeatedly said the same and didn't get any helpful or new information. I said from the start that something was broken and hoped that this has happened to someone before me and that the person could tell me the cause. :frusty: So you finally agree with me that something is broken - Thank you

Re: Can't create admin!?

If that's what you're asking, then yes, you've got something broken on your site.
And, no, what you've described is not how the software works "out-of-the-box".

Sorry to disappoint you by trying to give you a quick solution to getting an actual admin user back into your database so that you could login to it.

I might sound disappointed but I am actually very impressed by the quick response from your side and really appreciate it!
I just felt that you weren't actually understanding me and became somewhat frustrated for repeating myself. Obviously it was not an "out-of-the-box" bug. I already said that I was adding modules and was looking for someone who experienced this bug before and that could track the specific conflicting module down with me before I reinstall the same plug-in again and have the same bug with the next installation.
I was installing things like cross sale extension, sitemap tool, auction plugin, user Tracking, international shipping, shipping table, edit orders, dual pricing and other useful changes. Quite a lot huh :D But they would be very useful for my needs. One of them conflicted with something and now I am afraid to try any of them again. Unless I find out which 2 don't like each other.

Re: Can't create admin!?

I'd be surprised if any of the mods you mentioned were to directly impact the creation of admin users.

The checking of password lengths is a simple process. I'd be more concerned that you'd installed something that was preventing the collected data from actually being submitted properly for comparison/evaluation.

I didn't install anything that wasn't from your download site.
Sometimes I was supposed to copy a php file to a folder that didn't exist. It asked me to go to YOUR_TEMPLATE with languages>English but my template wasn't in there so I simply created a new folder with the name of my template and copied the file in there. Does that sound correct? What do I do if I am asked to go to a folder that I don't have? (usually YOUR_TEMPLATE) within something like modules or so.
I am using a CUSTOM template. I was thinking that creating a new folder could have been wrong and that that might have caused the bug in the database.

Re: Can't create admin!?

molumania:

I didn't install anything that wasn't from your download site. All the addons/contributions in the downloads area are use-at-your-own-risk. While the majority of them are solid, some are in-development, and some are poorly-written or ill-conceived. It is up to you to test the usefulness of anything you decide to add to your site ... ideally testing on a "test" copy of your site before you put it on your "live" site.

It asked me to go to YOUR_TEMPLATE with languages>English but my template wasn't in there so I simply created a new folder with the name of my template and copied the file in there. Does that sound correct? That is often a logical choice.

Creating template folders should have no impact on the ability to create admin users or change admin passwords.
