"source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

Hello,

I was able to set up a download attribute, indicate a file name verified and its valid, permissions was set as instructed for pub and download folder, chosen redirect in the configuration. I reached the point where I was able to purchase the product, with the download link, i clicked it and this is what i got
"../../filename.zip could not be saved, because the source file could not be read."

Ive tried it with both mac and pc and still getting the same result.
my version is Zen Cart 1.3.8a

Please help.

Somebody might have encountered the same problem.

Thanks

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

Hello and thanks...

I have been trying to get downloadable products to work. It's all peachy except it won't send the file.

If I have redirect off i get an error from my browser

/tmp/+1peOYCv.bin.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

and if i turn redirect on i get

HTTP 403 - The Default index.html file could not be found

It's running on a linux server...
ZC 1.3.8

I tried a windows client, I use unix firefox

I checked the .htaccess file and it had the

Options +FollowSymLinks -Indexes

I read all the post I could find.

The original file is about 20 meg. So I tried a small file. 700K.
still bad...

The product shows up fine, The checkout works, My Account shows the download button...

I click download and I just get errors

Thank you in advance for your help...

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

apon further testing...

when i try it in redirect mode, and it doesn't work...
the tmp directory is still there, under pub and...

the file in that tmp dir is reported as a directory and not a file...

filezilla sez it's a directory. it should be a link to the orig file in download...

i don't know why though...

any help would be appreciated...

thank you

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

Downloadable files go in folder
/download
and best way is to use zip files, which contain
product being sold.

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

Thank you for the reply...

the download file is in the download dir.

also, my second post is possibly invalid. I checked the random named dir and the file in it and my web admin tools reports the file as a link.

filezilla reports the file in the random name dir as a dir.

It seems like the server will not allow the file to be recognized or something. I'm stumped. Its a Doteasy server.

Thanks again

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

...and I am using a zip file for testing...

I want mp3 files, but I'm trying anything to get it to work even once.

So i use a zip file until further notice.

thanks again...

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

I did not follow THAT tutorial, but I think I did the same steps.

except the tutorial I followed sez the sort order can stay zero.

so mine is sort order zero.

I just now copied a zip file into the random tmp directory, pointed to it with my browser and it downloaded fine. So I am thinking there is some snag with the link aspect of the filelink my ZC puts there for download.

misty, thank you for your help.

Thread above mentions temp folder..but as am unable
to actually view your configuration of downloads in
your zencart admin, regret cannot advise further.
Hopefully dev mod Ajeh may view this post and
offer her assistance. She wrote download files
for zencart

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

if I turn redirect off, i get

/tmp/gSGA2bFG.zip.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator..

...from my browser.

(and the download window pops up too, but with the error, will not allow a download...)

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

here is the text from the root dir .htaccess

-FrontPage-

IndexIgnore .htaccess /.?? *~ *# /HEADER /README /_vti

<Limit GET POST> order deny,allow deny from all allow from all </Limit> <Limit PUT DELETE> order deny,allow deny from all </Limit> AuthName <https://www.mysitenamehere.com> AuthUserFile /home/virtual/site218/fst/var/www/html/_vti_pvt/service.pwd AuthGroupFile /home/virtual/site218/fst/var/www/html/_vti_pvt/service.grp

I'm thinking the server is not allowing ZC to get a handle on either the source file in download, or not allowing a proper link to be created in the random_tmp dir.

just throwing darts...

They replied with...

We had adjusted the settings for your web server and you should be able to use the download function now.

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

Try turning GZip compression off, with a value of 0. under Configuration --> enable GZip Configuration. I butted my head against this for hours, personally, and when I set this, the downloads all started working again. Argh. Either a really delicate setting or a bug.

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

have this problem on firefox 3.0.6
i have an adblocker(s)

Adblock Filterset.G Updater 0.3.1.3
AdblockPlus: Element Hiding Helper 1.0.5
Ad blocker 0.6.2

When I use Opera and can see the ads the page(s) are saved correctly.
If I cannot see the ads the pages will not save correctly.

The same problem(s) exist when using UBUNTU
The problems DO NOT EXIST when using PUPPY LINUX , (FIRE HYDRANT)

So I just uninstalled ALL OF THE ABOVE.
I restarted firefox.
Oddly , I still cannot see the ads, BUT THE PAGES SAVE FLAWLESSLY

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

Try adding this to .htaccess in order to turn on gzip compression, without breaking things like .zip file downloads.

php_flag zlib.output_compression On
php_value zlib.output_compression_level -1

Re: "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

For me it only works with GZip Compression = 0 (off). I use Windows IIS.
But what does that mean for Zencart? GZIP ON is recommended settings for Zencart. Is there any other way to fix this and keep GZIP on as recommended?

Thank you
