Weird text while sending newsletters

When I send a newsletter, instead of the email addresses being show, I get a bunch of random text. See the picture to see what I mean.

Any ideas?

Re: Weird text while sending newsletters

Might be the code for an image - have you added an image to the newsletter template?

Re: Weird text while sending newsletters

Actually, i did add an image to the newsletter. I added my header image.

I will remove it to see if that is the issue. Thanks for the suggestion.

I will post what I come up with.

Re: Weird text while sending newsletters

I reset the newsletter files back to the originals, but it does the same thing.
I just noticed that I have a file called Farsi in my admin/includes/languages folder. I wonder if that is causing the problem. I didn't place it there, it must have come with a mod. I will remove it and try again.

Re: Weird text while sending newsletters

Try turning off GZip Compression in Admin->Configuration->GZip Compression, if it's enabled.

DrByte you are awesome! :smartalec:

What exactly does that compression do? Is it ok to leave it off, or is it best to leave it on? Now that I know what is making the funny characters, I guess I could leave it on.

Re: Weird text while sending newsletters

It's possible that your server is already doing the compression, and that by turning it on in your admin you're actually causing recompression and not only creating confusion but also causing more delays in processing pages than would normally be saved by enabling the compression support.

If you don't need it, leave it off.
One normally only turns it on if customers are complaining of slow page loads and it's determined that the slowness is a result of large pages taking too long to get from your server to their browser.
