Setting up multiple tax rates, but end up getting screwed

I recently installed Zen Cart 1.3.8 earlier this month and now beta-testing the store site.

I did everyhting right. But when I tried to place a practice order, the invoice gives me as follows:

Your Total

Sub-Total: $184.90

Table Rate (Best Way): $18.49 (10% of merchandise total)

• • • • • • • • Indiana Stata Sales Tax (7%) + + + : $159.86 (not $12.94)

Total: $363.25 (not 216.33)

You mentioned "multiple tax rates". I suspect you've configured your taxes incorrectly and thus it's ending up being 78% tax instead of what you hoped it would be.

There are some tax-configuration posts in the forum and the faq area, detailing step-by-step how to set up taxes. Or you could just go in and remove the taxes that shouldn't be present, etc.

I must be doing something wrong. That is why its only in beta testing.

I may have figurerd it out why--must be the tax priority. However, the tax rates only apply in (all US) NC, WI, AZ, KY, MI, AL, FL, OH, IN, IL, TX, and CA since my store owns and/or operate venues in those states (with the exception of CA and AZ, which are the distribution center's locale).)

Yes. I did and that is what caused the problem...

Tax zones determine who gets charged tax.
Tax rates, linked to tax zones, determine which rates apply to customers whose address falls within the specified zone.

If you're getting the wrong calculations, especially excessively high numbers, it is likely that you've misconfigured your zones.

When you created each of your separate zones, did you carefully ensure that you specifically chose the correct state for each zone separately? The default is to apply to the entire country. If you didn't choose specific states, you'll have unexpected calculation results.

I did create each of the separate zones and unfortunately, got 0 tax

I was.. But I had to redo almost every zone in the US and Canada.

I had to install the Local Sales Tax Module, but I would have to plug in all the towns ans cities instead of states.

I did try one method though on another person's post

The sad part is--there is no module for US State Sales Tax.

The built-in tax support works on per-state (or per-province, whatever word applies best to your country) regions.

If you're having problems with addon modules which change that functionality, you'll have to work on debugging the addon modules you're using.

The Issue has been resolved...

All I did was just retool the store's zone. However, I am not done beta testing the site yet.
