Priced by Attributes, Starting at...

So I have this product, bulbs. And you can buy different kinds of bulbs, as many as you want!

I've set it up, so that the product has 4 different attributes (which are actually different kinds of bulbs; fluorescent, energy saving etc.) and each option is a different type of that type of bulb...

Our problem is with the "Starting at..." price. It's added up the lowest prices of each type of bulb. Which makes sense! But not what I want... Any idea how I can change this so that it's just the lowest value ever? Not of each one? Make sense? >.>

Thanks for any help you can offer! :)

Re: Priced by Attributes, Starting at...

Mark what you do not want in the Base Price as:
Include in Base Price NO

Otherwise, the lowest price in each attribute group is added together to make the base price ...

My question is ... how do I order 3 of 1 kind and 5 of another and 7 of another and not get lost and just pack up my credit card and go shop else where?

Huh... good point... Eep.

I figured the idea was, the customer would want 1 of each selected, or 2 of each selected rather than 3 of one, and 2 of another. Though there really is no way of un-complicating things for the latter...

Your suggestion works price wise though! Thank youuu. Only problem being that the product's price starts at £0.00. >.>

The whole attributes thing confuzzles me, I keep using it for different types of the product, as opposed to different.. variations?

Halp. :(

Re: Priced by Attributes, Starting at...

I would break the bulbs up into separate products ...

Product: Standard Bulbs
Option Name: Wattage (or something)
Option Values:
DAY-11101 100W BC ( £3.85 )
DAY-11111 100W ES ( £3.85 )
DAY-11102 75W BC ( £3.85 )
DAY-11112 75W ES ( £3.85 )
DAY-11103 60W BC ( £3.85 )
DAY-11113 60W ES ( £3.85 )
DAY-11107 40W BC ( £3.85 )
DAY-11117 40W ES ( £3.85 )

Product: Spotlight Bulbs
Option Name: Wattage (or someting)
Option Values:
DAY-11121 100W ESR80 ( £6.10 )
DAY-11122 60W ESR80 ( £6.10 )
DAY-11120 60W ESR63 ( £6.10 )

etc. etc. etc.

Now you can order how many you want of each bulb ... and it makes it easier to order and know what you are ordering ...

I would also add an additional Option Name such as:
Pick One
What watt?
or something ...

and set it as
Default YES
Display Only YES
Sort Order 0

This makes the customer have to pick a valid Option Value and not just take what you have setup and accidentally order the wrong thing ...

This makes sense! I wonder though, how would this work for checkboxed attributes (a la http://www.millers-graphics.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=21_42_43&products_id=99 - it takes a while to load, that's a whole other issue. >.<) - what would be the default checked value?

...Is there a way to disable the "Add to Cart" button unless at least one is checked?

I really appreciate your help on this. :)

Re: Priced by Attributes, Starting at...

If you made those Radio buttons or Dropdown then only 1 can be picked ...

If you added an additional Option Value such as:
Pick Your Favorite Color
Display Only YES
Default YES
Sort Order 0

then the customer must add the proper attribute before it can be added to the cart and pick from the selections that you have from the list ...

Re: Priced by Attributes, Starting at...

But you don't think there's a way to do this if I want the customer to be able to pick more than one option at once, hence the checkboxes?

Re: Priced by Attributes, Starting at...

You are combining multiple products with your attributes to tell "you" that they want to order multiple products ...

For the customer, they cannot easily say "I want 12 Standard Bulbs DAY-11112 75W ES and 3 Spotlight bulbs DAY-11120 60W ESR63" ...

Make the Standard Bulbs a Product and make the Spotlight Bulbs a product ...

The customer could then select via Radiobutton or Dropdown the wattage and add away with the quantities in a much easier manner ...

Re: Priced by Attributes, Starting at...

Thanks for this. :) It's all done and it looks much better.

All I have to do now is figure out what to do for 120 different colours of pencil! Haha.

Thanks again!

Re: Priced by Attributes, Starting at...

If you want how many of each ... then switch to Radio or Dropdown with the Pick One on that also ...

Or, make groups of colors for dividing the color ... but I don't know your product well enough to say if that is a help or not ...

Also, check if you are on a server that is a tad slow ...

While you have a number of attributes, you don't have enough to warrant that performance speed ...

Also, as all are the same price, if you go to Dropdown or Radio button set the Product Price to 1.65 and the Priced by Attribute to NO ... that could help speed things up as well ...

I think I tried that, but if the customer added 3 different colours, then they were charged £1.65, not £1.65 x 3.

Re: Priced by Attributes, Starting at...

That is why as a Radio button or Drop down they can just pick the Blue Pencil and add 3 * products_price (1.65) ...

This just means let the customer pick a Color ... the price is on the Product and will extend out ...
