What are Attributes

Please define what attributes are inside a shopping cart and what their function is.

Attributes are options...
i.e. Base Product is TShirt
You can purchase different colours and sizes..
So choose tshirt, then choose colour, then choose size..
The different colours and sizes are attributes/options to base product
