Can Zen Cart be made into a Softpedia or Downloads.com?

I'm looking to build a file download repository for a client that does not want to pay for a programmer to start from scratch.

They intend on making this site very large over time and need a CMS / Cart type software to handle a large amount of traffic.

Could Zen cart handle the workload of a site like Softpedia.com or Downloads.com?

If not, do you have any suggestions on what to use for this kind of project?

Thanks in advance.

I don't see any reason you couldn't use Zencart for something like that. Zencart will handle lots of categories and products.

Do us all a favor, though, and don't follow Download.com's model - let us download a file without clicking through eleventy-seven different ad-filled pages.
