Installation - Best method to use for situation

Trying to assist someone in fixing their site after the host upgraded SQL 5.0. Please provide your thoughts on best route to take.

I found out that there are two different versions of Zen Cart set up on the account.

There is one in /buscards directory with nothing in it is part of CPanel, so it was the only one that upgraded when I ran the automatic update to 1.3.8

Then one that is currently set up for use (version 1.2.6) and has customizations. It is under the /cards, directory, and it is not part of CPanel.

Should I:

1. Update /cards directory manually and try to retain the customizations on it.

OR

2. Transfer everthing over to /buscards directory to have the ability for easy updates

If you know of good notes on the onel that you recommend, it would be appreciated.

1. If you're using MySQL5 or newer, you must use a minimum of Zen Cart v1.3.
   Attempting to use v1.2.x will leave you with headaches because it wasn't written for MySQL 5.

2. There is no such thing as a reliable "automatic" upgrade. Relying on Fantastico to upgrade your site will leave you with headaches and maybe even lost business. They're okay for installing "new", but that's it.

3. Recommendation: Do a proper full upgrade (yourself) from your current 1.2.6 site to the latest version of Zen Cart (currently 1.3.8a). You can find upgrade instructions and tips in the /docs folder of the version you're upgrading to (after downloading the zip from our site), as well as in the FAQs area (see link at top of this page).
