Coupon codes not working

All of the sudden a lot of my coupon codes stopped working. I get a message "This coupon code is not valid for any product currently in your cart."

I did some tests, and I discovered that if I add a product restriction WITH a category restriction, the code does not work no matter what. I even added "allow all" at the end of the category restriction.

If the restriction is only on a product or only for a category, then it works fine. :huh:

I normally deny Gift Certificate category on all my coupons and deny a specific product, so majority of them aren't working...

Everything was fine up until 8/22 - that's when someone used a coupon code last with category and product restrictions. Since then, the changes I made are:

What are the exact settings you have on the restrictions?

Do you use Linked Products?

Restriction for my test coupon code that doesn't work:

Deny Category "Gift Certificates"
Deny Product "6-Piece Mineral Makeup Starter Sample Kit"

I do have linked products, but they're not part of the coupon restriction. Plus they have been there for a very long time...

The plot thickens... If I add more than 1 category to be denied to the category restriction, the code doesn't work. I even added "allow all" again... :wacko:

Oh, BTW, I'm on 1.3.8a with all recent patches applied.

Could you set 1 more restriction on:
Category Top Deny

Does this get things working again for you?

NOTE: Gift Certificates, when setup correctly, are automatically excluded from Discount Coupons ...

Thanks for the tip about GCs and coupons. That one tested fine.

I still have issues with other coupons with multiple categories and cat/product combo though.

What is the file that handles this logic? I'm going to compare mine against the default to see if something got accidentally changed...

There is an existing problem with Discount Coupons on Linked Products when the Allowed Category has a higher categories_id than one of the other categories_id for the Categories that the Product is Linked to ...

I do not have a simple solution to this, other than to define the Products separately ...

We are working on a fix for this ...

I deleted the linked product because it was disabled anyway, but it's still not working. Any other ideas?

I'm testing with different settings. I don't do both free shipping and amount/%.

It's still the same problem as before: coupons with multiple category restrictions, and category/product combo restrictions (hope that made sense).

I make a Discount Coupon for 10% off ...

I set my first restriction ...

Category Top DENY ...

Now I set the rest of my restrictions ...

Do you have that Top Category set to DENY?

Also what date range are you using?

For a September 10th coupon, I would use:
Start 09/10/2008
End 09/11/2008

That starts at Midnight September 10th and ends at Midnight September 11th ...

OK, so Gift Certificates are automatically excluded what is one to do if they want Discount Coupons applied to Gift Certificates too ?

I have tried creating an ALLOW Restriction for this Category, Certificates, but that does not seem to over ride the automatic exclusion.

Look at the Known Bug Fixes for v1.3.8 ...

And it is a good time to check that you have all of the Security Patches and Updates ...

Or, upgrade to v1.3.9c ... this has all of the Security Patches and Updates as well as the Known Bug Fixes and a bit more ...
