Catagories and sub catagories help

I want a bar at the top showing my main catagories, with all the sub catagories showing dow the side. Does anyone know if there is any contibution that does this already or one that could be adapted to do this.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Also if I wanted to make each catagory a different coulor, is this possible.

Regards
Laurie
