moving to a new server

I'm moving my web site to a new server and would like to start with the newest version of Zen Cart. The old server has the older version on it, 1.3.X with no add-ons. I have only 2 questions:

• If I install the new version of ZC onto the new server, which files (other than image files) will I have to bring with me?
• Also, should I upload the database to the server first?

You will need your "custom" files (such as your custom template, your html_includes, ~ basically any file that you made changes/modifications to.)

As for database - you can start with the old one - but will need to perform a database upgrade.

How do I upgrade the database?
Database Patch Level: 1.3.7

Once the new version of ZenCart is installed on your server usiing the 1.3.7 version database, you'll run the zc_install and select DB Upgrade. Be sure to select DB Upgrade only.

Thank you! I already installed without upgrading the database and got that awful error bar -- I never saw the option to upgrade. So I deleted everything. I'll have to re-do it all first thing in the morning. I want to be fresh and alert to do this again. It wil be nice to get everything back to the way I want it. At least now I can have an up to date cart and a new host

I'll keep you posted, but I have a good feeling.

Dr Byte: I moved my database over using cPanel. The instructions given are for phpMyAdmin. Will that be a problem? phpMyadmin seems to have extra steps. In cPanel all I did was click to upload then click to download.

I ended up re-installing ZC, then using phpMyAdmin to upload the database. Everything went well until I had to "Grab the "Fix_Cache_Key" utility" I could not find it, but the database seems to be working fine. Should I be concerned?

You need to upgrade the db, as the overall content is different for 1.3.7 compared to 1.3.8a

Everything is up and running fine. Now I just have to get my certificate moved over. Thanks everyone for helping me throughy that. It actually wasn't very hard. It's also nice to know that I have a clean install.
