Block order when maximum weight is reached

Hi,

I'm using the shipping module zones to control my shipping costs per weight.

I want my to limit my weight per order to 30 kg.

See below details for zone 1

2:7.80,4:9.00,6:10.30,8:11.75,10:11.75,15:13.55,20:18.35,25:18.35,30:18.35

When i order over 30 kg, lets say 31 kg - my cost is calculated 0.00, which of course is normal.

The problem is THAT THE ORDER CAN STILL BE COMPLETED AND PROCESSED! I don't want this to happen.

I want to block the order and show a text alert, concerning maximum weight, telling the user that 30 kg is the maximum weight per order. Is this possible with a flag somewhere??

Could someone help me out.

Re: Block order when maximum weight is reached

I'm curious as to why you would want to restrict the customer.

"You can shop but you can only buy so much" doesn't seem like a good idea. Couldn't you just put a 40kg order in two 20kg boxes?

I don't know for sure if you are using the right module or not as I don't know where you are shipping from nor to.

I think you could continue as you are and just add info for larger weights.

It would help if I knew what shipping you are using.

Re: Block order when maximum weight is reached

You mean 2 seperate orders?, because the shipping company that i'm using has only give me the prices up until 30 kg.
i don't have the calculated prices above 30 kg.

Don't get me wrong, i don't want to turn away business, it's just, once i select over 30 kg my shipping price is €0.00 and i can still proceed with the order without shipping calculation.

Re: Block order when maximum weight is reached

So the price the shipping company gives is for one package, and they won't ship a package larger than 30kg.

The simplest way to handle this is to give the rates for a 30kg plus a 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. kg package. So 32kg would cost 26.15 (18.35 + 7.80).

Re: Block order when maximum weight is reached

You should set the maximum order weight to 30 kg. When people order more than 30 kg it will automatically split your order up to 2 boxes.

It will double the shipping ost. Try it out go to admin / configure / shipping and packaging / Enter the Maximum Package Weight you will ship and see what your store does with the shipping price.

good luck!

Re: Block order when maximum weight is reached

Hi,
My problem is similar:
I would like to block package weights of more than 4.41lb/2kg. I've put a comment in under Shipping Costs to advise customers that they should contact me if the total weight of their products exceeds this, so that I can advise the most economical way of sending the order.
The reason for this is that I might split the order into more than one package or I might send the order by courier. Above 2kg, I'm looking at parcel weights with the Irish postal services which are a lot more expensive.
Instead of "blocking" larger weights, Zen Cart just creates new shipping costs. Is it assuming I want to send the order in 2 packages?
How can I set it up so Zen Cart won't accept orders heavier than 2kg or prompts customers to contact me?:lookaroun
