Please help! Can't get Gift Certificates to work!

I would be grateful for any advice; I'm trying to set up gift certificates and I've followed all the instructions I could find in the tutorials and in this forum. The product number begins with "GIFT" and the module is installed. I have "Product Priced by Attributes" set to "Yes." But when I make a test purchase in the shop I'm setting up, there's no option for the purchaser to set the gift certificate amount—it stays set at $0.00 and there's no way to change it.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Gift Certificates are like any other product, and must have a value that YOU assign. So, you could for example have several gift certificates "on sale", ranging from $1 through to $50.

I do this on http://www.karenscakes.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=91 , where my gift certificates are in various denominations.

Thanks, fairestcape! But why do the tutorials indicate that it's possible for the purchaser to set the certificate's attributes? I mean, I suppose it's possible I'm reading it wrong, but . . .

I'm also wondering: After a gift certificate is purchased, what is the process by which the recipient uses it in the store? Are they tracked using coupon codes?

Thanks very much for your attention!
