Shared SSL (GeoTrust) seal

Hi all

oh boy - I really need some clarification here as I'm really confused....

Managed to get a shared certif installed via my Host - so that's ok.

BUT

I now have a prefix to my website address (4knox.au.com) in order for the seal to display & be deemed verified.

(If this prefix is not present, my GeoSeal area is blank)

So - (sorry for my ignorance) is that how it is with Shared Certifs? I have to have a prefix to my website address?

however - JUST now got this from my Host:

If you want your entire site automatically redirected to https://... you will need to change the ssl configuration otherwise it will just come up when your client's go to checkout which is normal.

I'm sorry - I really am very confused!

Re: Shared SSL (GeoTrust) seal

Hi Misty - thanks for the reply

I did have a look at that tutorial earlier today....

My settings are as per that tute, (shared certificate) this is why i am really confused (the only difference was that the admin/config was set to "false" - i changed it to "true" but nothing changed anyway.

so......I guess I'm still not clear as to whether the prefix to one's web address is normal in this case or not?

sorry guys - just trying to get my head around this....please be patient with me:cry:

Re: Shared SSL (GeoTrust) seal

Hi Misty -

yes it works with the 4knox.au.com prefix, but that's what I was wondering.....

Is that how they work? you always have to have the prefix?
That's where I am confused and need clarification on this....

so - if a customer wants to view my "secure site" with the seal visible, they have to know / find my address including the prefix (otherwise - they access my site - with the normal address - and find "blank" seal areas)

thanks again

If you have only SHARED SSL, this is how it works..if you
wish to do without prefix, then you must purchase
dedicated SSL cert.. i.e one that only applies to your
domain name..this method may cost around $50 but looks/works
more professional.

Re: Shared SSL (GeoTrust) seal

Hi misty - thanks for that - I understand a bit better now. (I guess I was worried I'd set something up incorrectly)

our Host doesn't provide dedicated SSL due to a shared hosting environment. (they told me)

But , when I asked them the same question I have asked you, they said, (as per earlier in my post...) " If you want your entire site automatically redirected to https://... you will need to change the ssl configuration otherwise it will just come up when your client's go to checkout which is normal."

ok - no idea about what that means.....
(sigh: one step forward, 20 steps back)

Even though they offer shared SSL. if you purchase
your own dedicated SSL, they should be able to install for you.
They are correct in stating that https does not appear
on all pages however..i.e only at login, cart, etc

Re: Shared SSL (GeoTrust) seal

Great - thanks for that.....getting clearer & clearer
Just one more question

Do people (as in web developers/zencart producers) generally opt for the dedicated certif, or prefer the shared (in our case, we are just using Paypal & direct deposit payment options)

thanks misty - you have been great

Depends how professional you want your new store to be..
why spoil ship for ha'porth of tar..personally, for few dollars,
always opt for dedicated ssl.
