Omg! Site looks totally different in Firefox...

Omg, I am trying not to panic here. My site looks totally different in Firefox but looks fine in IE.

Website is here

I have brought up the layout issue with firefox in a topic before, and I put it down to template issues first, but when it was happening with another template and with other people's sites, then I put it down to my browser version. So I figured I would just upgrade firefox to version 3 and be done with it.

But I just checked on another machine that has FF 3 on it and realised that I'm still seeing the problem!

All the text enlarges (as if I have increased it when I haven't) and my top nav bar and footer bar are suddenly halved which makes it look like the links are gone, but they are there if you mouse-over them...

THE WEIRDEST THING is that when I first load the site in firefox, it looks normal, but then if I click onto a second link or refresh the page, the problem occurs then. Weird!

Surely this has been brought up by someone else before? What could be going on here? I can't go live until I sort this out. :(

what happens when you change your zencart template
to default Classic..do problems still occur? If they don't,
then problem lies with your current template.

Re: Omg! Site looks totally different in Firefox...

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the same thing happens with the classic template as well - as I said, it happens with other templates.

I just tested it with ff3 on my husband's laptop and it happened then as well.

There must be something in the default CSS file that firefox is not reading properly?

No-one else has this problem???

Site looks just the same to me in IE7, FF2, and FF3, no matter where I click.

It seems very slow to load, though, so maybe you're just not getting the whole site some of the time.

Looks fine in FF2, but took a rather long time to load with the limited content you have and I am on DSL.

Re: Omg! Site looks totally different in Firefox...

Thanks guys.

I am totally stumped. And concerned that it takes so long to load with a practically empty database too.

Jenzi,

Your images are way too big. This is why its taking so long to load. Use photoshop and "save the images for web" using .gifs.

Change the image sizes so they reflect what the site will show.

This way it will load faster.

Thanks for all the responses.

This turned out to be a problem with my host. A default install on a new host does not show this problem.

Re: Omg! Site looks totally different in Firefox...

Just a note about site development and browsers...

It's always best practices to develop using a browser that supports web standards. Which is another way of saying, don't develop using IE.

Firefox is the most recommended browser for development work. Then, once your site is pretty much how you want it in Firefox, review it in IE and, if necessary, add one or more IE-specific hacks (that are commonly and widely available) to clear up the bugs introduced by IE's lack of support for certain standards.

Thanks Rob. I guess I was developing it in IE cause I knew it was fussy. But your way makes sense. :)
