FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

Mathew at edited has just told me that the FEDEX module for Zen Cart calculates the wrong rates, and I should not use it. Can some of you please confirm that this is true... or not? Thank you very much

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

lol

Zen Cart send the weight the ship to the ship from to fedex

Fedex n turn sends the rates, ( these are the published rates which Fedex requires you to display )

Zen Cart has no part in the rates...

as usual Matthew is not quite as knowledgeable as he pretends to be...

He must have a new Fedex mod for sale.....

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

the reason people think it dosnt return the correct rates is simple.

It returns the published rates, ( the rates people see if they dont have a fedex account )

because of this people get confused that the rate they see when they login to fedex is lower.....

this is because they are being shown a disount rate for being a fedex customer...

I know it sux that fedex built in a profit for the stores...
however after dealing with fedex for 2 years on the fedex module, I can tell you that they do not allow the end user to publicly display these discount rates.......

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

Yes, it is clearly understood that the mentioned firm is in no way associated with the Zen Cart team.

Still, I would love to hear from some more folks that they're using the FEDEX module without issue. My supervisor has requested that I seek some more confirmations on this matter. Thanks

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

Question. If the FedEx module shows the published rates and not the "customer" rates, can the FedEx module be used without having to sign up and enter an account?

Sort of like the offline cc processing... The rates shown would be charged to the customer during checkout as normal and then the store owner could log into FedEx at a later time and process the shipping...

Thanks.

ThanksWhat exactly is your supervisor looking to hear? The FedEx rates that are displayed by this module have already been explained. There is a simple way to confirm the information you were provided here.. You could easily confirm this yourself by creating a test sale in your store and comparing the rates to the ones directly from Fedex's site. Be sure to take into account the package & products weights you set in Zen Cart..

Anymore reports on this issue would be much appreciated.
You wanted to hear from others using this module.. and there you have it.. IMO, if your supervisor is looking for assurances, then perhaps you guys should be doing your own testing of this module instead of taking the word of one individual and relying on the opinions of others to decide that this module works.. A quick search of this forum will tell you that no one is having issues with the accuracy of the rates.. You guys are worried about this "issue" 'cause one dude gave you HIS opinion on this module, and it appears to me that he has something to gain from it by expressing that opinion.. Perhaps he wants you to use a different e-commerce package or he's written his own FedEx module..

Bottomline is that the "issue" you report is a non issue in my book.. (and probably for most of us using this module)

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

We are definitely having problems with the rates. One of my customers has had it installed for several years but hasn't used it til now. The rates the cart is showing are close to one-half the rates the fedex site shows. I've looked at everything and can find no reason for it.

I also did find another thread that mentioned rate problems.

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I will need to do some extensive testing to see if our FEDEX module is working or not. Question is, why does it come with the Zen Cart package if it doesn't work properly?

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

doesn't come with - it's extra.

We just put in an add percentage of 95% to get the rates to come close to correct as a temp measure.

I swear I got everything right in admin!

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

I just ran a test purchase for a product that weights 1.6 lbs. The FEDEX module calculated a rate based on this weight. Then I went to the FEDEX site to compare that rate to theirs. But the FEDEX site then asks me for the dimensions of the box. Well, I don't see a place to add the dimensions of the shipping box in Zen Cart. Without going any further, I realize the rates are not going to match. I need to do a little more research on this.

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

I believe that the package size is only a problem if you have an oversized package.

Remember though that the amounts returned are only estimates, not actual shipping costs.

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

Yes, I just confirmed that with our Controller -- FEDEX is only concerned that boxes are not over-sized. Still, there was quite a discrepancy between their prices, and my Zen Cart prices, especially when it came to faster deliveries. I need to run some more tests. Might have to add the surcharge like you did.

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

Last test order results -- A COMPARISON of rates between the Zen Cart FEDEX module and the FEDEX website:

Zen Cart/FEDEX Module calculates as follows:

FEDEX 1st Overnight: $182.46 [FEDEX site: $170.68]
FEDEX Priority Overnight: $75.20 [FEDEX site: $137.06]
FEDEX Standard Overnight: $65.98 [FEDEX site: $119.50]
FEDEX 2-Day: $48.92 [FEDEX site: $79.09]
FEDEX Express Saver: $39.95 [FEDEX site: $63.55]
FEDEX Ground: $15.66 [FEDEX site: $16.16]

Of course, the rates are not expected to be identical, but they should at least be CLOSE. As you can see, they are close at the top and the bottom, but in between, we've got some problems. I should add that a 5% surcharge has been added to the FEDEX module in Zen Cart. Not sure what to think at this point.

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

Just did another test comparing rates generated by the Zen Cart UPS module, and the UPS website. These rates were much more in accordance with each other. Looks like we have to use UPS with Zen Cart, and NOT FEDEX.

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

you may want to ask fedex then why the rates are returning low,

all this module does is sends the ship to ship from info and the weight.

fedex then returns the rates, zen cart has nothing to do with this.....

Re: FEDEX module DOES WORK AFTER ALL

I did speak with FEDEX about it not long ago, but I need to call them again to confirm the problem is on their end. Most likely, they will blame the module.

I wonder where the UPS rates are coming from, because it's not necessary to enter any account information for the UPS module in Zen Cart.
