Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

Hi,

This is what I am trying to do:

I have one main category and sub categories under that.

Main Category

Sub Cat 1 & Sub Cat 2

You click on Main Category and get to the Sub Category page.

I need Sub Cat 2 to go to a custom page that I need to create in ez pages or define_pages, have not decided yet which one.

What I need to figure out is how to make "Sub Cat 2" go to that page that I will create.

Thank you in advance for your help!

John

Re: Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

When you create a sub cat you have a description area that you can use to enter text you want - no need for a seperate page

Re: Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

Hello Kobra,

Thank you for responding.

I am on the admin page, under the sub-category that I would like to link to another page these are the options that are available:

back / new category / new product

I do not see anywhere in my admin section where I can add any information to the sub-category.

The information I would like to add is somewhat substantial.

I will be entering a table with five columns and in the last two columns there will be links that will go to products in my store created with Zen Cart.

I will be creating several of these tables under different sub-categories. Some tables will be 50-75 rows long.

Can you tell me where I can find the option or options where to make those changes or how to link the sub-category to another page?

Thanks again in advanced

Re: Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

Kobra,

I was playing around with it a bit more and found the edit button. I was able to load the html on to the page and view it on the store in a test site that I have I will try to incorporate it in my store. I will update you how it goes and post it, hopefully it will help someone else.

Thanks.

KoBra:

When you create a sub cat you have a description area
My Bad - - it is evident when creating a NEW cat but as you found one must select the edit after it has been created to see the description entry screen

Re: Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

Kobra,

As I mentioned earlier, I figured out how to add html right on the category section. The issue that I am having is that my table is cut off in the middle. All the html appears when I add it, but when I save it and view it only half of it shows up. I checked it three times and go the same results.

Any Ideas :dontgetit

Thanks

Re: Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

Kobra,

The table is cut off vertically (up and down). I sent you an email via the forum with the links. Did you get it? Do you still want me to post the links here instead?

Thank you

Re: Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

Post it here as I hoped that one might remember if there is a character limit for the html area description

If you do not want your site link picked up place a space in it like

http:// mydomain.com

Re: Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

I was not sure about the character limit; now I know. Is there a way to increase the character limit?

Or maybe back to my original question, can I redirect the sub-cat link to a page that I create?

Here is the information that I need to display:

http: //www. cobratransmission. com/chevroletgmc. html

Here is the information on the Zen Cart:

http: //cobratransmission. com/catalog-zen-cart-abc-123/ index.php?main_page= index&cPath=1_2_10_64_634

I appreciate the interest you have taken and all of your help.

Re: Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

Still hoping another can post what they know about any "limit"...

In the mean time - a standard html href link can be inserted into the description area

Re: Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

Kobra,

I looked into it yesterday and read that search engines will penalize an html redirect due to inappropriate use by spammers.

I also read that a redirect with a .htaccess file is possible and "cleaner". I understand the concept; not sure how I go about it.

Which is better as a redirect and and how do I implement the .htaccess redirect.

Thank you :dontgetit

A standard html link is not a redirect and very common for html based sites

For What purpose?

If for your original issue - - this as stated earlier, can be just a href link and no need for htaccess nor is this a "redirect" by definition

Re: Catagory Link Redirect / Modification

Kobra,

I tried the regular html link and this is the what I am getting.

In fire fox it works fine. and when you hit the back button it takes you back to the original page.

In ie it works fine going to the link, but when you press the back button it takes you back to the page that is being linked forcing the viewer to have to press the back button twice.

I have read that the htaccess eliminates this. I saw in some posts where you write about this.

What I need to know is where should I place the .htaccess file and what the code should be.

I have tried several different script but none have worked.

Thank you. :dontgetit
