Possible to add a coupon to just a certain category?

After all this time of using Zencart this is the first time I've been asked to implement coupons, and I am stuck. The client wants them only in one category, and I can't see how that can be done.

Is it possible?

I did check the tutorials and it said there should be a restrictions button that would enable us to restrict the coupons to just a certain category or product. However at least in this build of v1.38 the only restriction in the coupon code is one to restrict the zone and nothing else.

Any other ideas would be most appreciated.

You're looking in the wrong place. Don't go to admin->modules->order totals, go to admin->gift certificates->coupon admin and press the restrictions button on the right hand side.

That's where I am going and there isn't a restriction button. I'm inserting a coupon, and the only button in there is to preview.

Thank you SW guy, thanks to you I finally found it. Seems a little back-ackwards to me.

So by putting one category in there and allowing it, does that restrict it to just that one category?

Sorry to bump this, but I have set up the restrictions to the 3 categories with the discount, yet the discount is being taken store wide. Is there something else beisde the restriction that needs to be done?

Linda, for those of us that have linked products what happened by using the logic above (restricting top and adding other categories).

I know that you mentioned in another post to restrict each products individual if they are linked. My only concern is that's not practical with 1,000s of products.

Currently, when using Linked Products there is a feature on the Discount Coupon Restriction that might be called ... er ... umm ... a bug ... :eek:

So, when using Linked Products, to work around this little feature, it is best to add the Products 1 by 1 to the Discount Coupon rather than use the Categories ...

If you do not have Linked Products then there isn't an issue on the Discount Coupon being configured for Categories vs Products ...

This takes quite a bit of custom coding and for now, this is the best work around ...

just a quick coupon question. I want to offer 10% off on orders over £20 for a given time, as a promotion.
I dont have any customers as yet to email them to.

You can just make an EZPage that lists Discount Coupon Codes for people to use if you want to have several available without emailing them out ...

You can also setup a Default Discount Coupon that gets emailed to them in the Welcome Letter on Create Account ...

That is set up in the Configuration ... GV Coupons ...

Select the coupon

Just make up the Discount Coupon first, then you can configure it ...

I do not know if this is the correct thread. Just let me know if not.

What I would like to do is advertise in various magazines or other web sites. In each magazine/web site I would offer a discount if the customer used a certain redemption code. The customer could only use a redemption code once. (Note: customer could not jump from one magazine to another). Each magazine/web site would have a different redemption code. Thus, I could follow which site gave me the most traffic plus help to get traffic to the site.

Is there a way to do this?

The answer to your question is: without adding code, there's no way of tying multiple coupons together and only allowing one of a bunch to be redeemed.
