May I ask Anne, if you would look at my site, how would you do that and what would you look for?

For instance, if I want to now how something is called and where i can find it, I use the elements in Chrome.

I don't understand the question. Since your site is off line I can not see it or trouble shoot it. The first thing to do is to confirm that the layout is broken.

That makes me curious, what do you do exactly(with what do you take a look) and what are you looking for.
I like to learn from you (and others) so step by step i can do more myself.
I always try to do things myself first, before I ask for help because that always makes me feel a bit like a nag (dutch: zeurpiet)

Most of use tools like the Web Developer or Firebug plugins for the Firefox browser to examine sites for issues. Try installing one or the other and give it a try. The browser also allows us to see the source code for the page.

Yes, exactly ;) It also lets me see what if any changes you have made to the template package. I always need to check for bugs. If the problem is in the template package I need to know. But, if you have made customizations, etc. it is most likely something that you have done.

It is so great what you can do. I absolutly can´t. If we didn´t have you, I could not make a nice webshop for my business. I have never learned to work with html, php, css and so on. Everything I do is by looking at things, searching on google and this forum to find answers to the questions I have how to changes things, trying things... It works for me to build my own website this way, but I could never build a website for someone else, just because I don´t have enough experience.
I am a little bit jealous of al the nice things you create Anne, because i can really say that i enjoy building my website. So thank you for all the work you do to help everyone every day :thumbsup:

Later today I will try to add firefox and also look at the other one you guys mentioned. Lets see if I can work with it.

I'm not sure it is a template bug Anne. I think it isn't.

I think I need to look for i file of maybe jscript.
The first problem i saw was that everything under the breadcrums showed up under the left sidebox.
The seconds problem I now see is that on the home page, the featured products have to much space between that carousel and the footer. The padding on the bottom seems to be to much. I could try to changes that, but it could also be a part of the problem i am having somewhere.

Thinking of this weird things happening, wich file, in wich folder could I take a look at?
I mean, could it be a template thing? Then I go check the last addons to see if they have a template folder and what's in it.
And when I look in there template folders, wich file would be the first to think of?

Can somebody think with me for a minute, where to start?

Quite honestly we can't even BEGIN to GUESS where you might start looking because we can't SEE your site.. It would help if you could put up a TEST version of your site on a LIVE server so we can SEE what YOU see.. Seriously.. if you do not see a recurring theme in all the responses you receive it's this: Put a link up to your site so we can see it.. Without that folks are guessing and they cannot help you.. Some folks (myself included) will not entertain guesses, hence you will not receive the quality/quantity of responses to help you help yourself..

Create a development site.. post a link.. THEN folks can REALLY help you (versus just guessing away at your issues..)

I know that it is easyer to see my site and take a look too, but i´m building off line, because I allready have a webshop online for a few years now.
Don´t get me wrong, I appriciate all the help, but i´m not asking you to do everything for me. I want to learn from what i am doing, i want to try things myself, I want to sit and puzzle with everything.
Forgive me my question, I thought if I explane what I am seeing, someone with way more experience maybe knows in which direction I must search, because I really don´t know what file is connected to which file. So not knowing which files are handeling the looks for those pages(other than the stylesheets), takes weeks for me to figure out what I might be looking for, because that is something I also don't know yet.
I don't want to sit here and say, you figure that out for me, because that would be real easy and in the end I still did not learn anything from it.

right.. having a live working store is NO REASON why you CAN'T create a LIVE dev/test store in a SEPARATE area.. Setup a sub-domain, and put your site there so when you ask questions people can SEE what you are asking about and offer real answers instead of trying to GUESS what you are describing..

You don't know which file to touch.. for certain things, yes the community can help without seeing the site.. But once you start modifying things and installing other plugins, then it gets MUCH harder to help you..

ANYONE with more experience cannot help you unless we SEE what you are trying to describe.. Honestly I can't put this much plainer.. Why do you think Anne (the AUTHOR of this template.. remember her??) keeps REPEATEDLY asking you to post a link so she can take a look?? It's so she can give you a much more INFORMED answer versus GUESSING (which answering BLINDLY means)

Help the community help you to learn.. Create a live dev/test site..

I have been working on making some changes to the way the template looks, to make it match more with the look of the live site.
The changes so far have been things like changing the logo, changing colors. There have been no changes to the other files I think?

I don't like the way the buttons like forward and submit look like. They are not aligned and the height they are at looks a bit weird, often they are both outside the white field where the form is, sometimes one of the buttons is partly inside the white field and partly outside it on the normal background of the site.
One such an example can be found at www4 dot carmo dot nl/index.php?main_page=password_forgotten (yes, it has to be www4, it is the test site)
Some of the other pages are where you can make changes to your account settings.

I have tried to see if returning the old css files makes it look better, but it makes no change in the height of the buttons, only the colors.

Is it part of the template that the buttons are at different heights, and sometimes are on top of a line, or is this something I did by changing a file where this is defined? I tried to look at the live demo of the template, but can't see it because of an error I get about bandwith limit exceeded.

Another question has to do with another part of the site. There are several categories without any subcategories or products in them, but they do have information in the description part. At the bottom of those pages, there is a horizontal line between the category description and the bottom of the white field. This can be seen at www4 dot carmo dot nl/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=493_497_549
Is there any way I can make it look like I did at www4 dot carmo dot nl/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=17_1210 ? To make it look this way I had to make a special css file containing

with the cPath as the filename. Doing this for all the pages where there is a category containing nothing but a description would be slightly frustrating to do.
If anyone knows an easy way, that would be great, otherwise I think that line can stay where it is now.

If you want to change any of the buttons you can do it with css. Each button has a unique class.

You can make your other changes using css, or it might be easier to use a php if statement.

If you need to make css changes I would recommend using chrome and the chrome web developer tools.

I have built this as an EZ page and placed images inside a five column table with cell sizes of about 150px and table width of 800px.
However this does not size properly under the new google test for Mobile Usability > Content not sized to viewport.

Can someone please provide a few clues as to the correct way to proceed in using tables in EZ pages under Westminster New or similar responsive themes?

Fixed widths are the problem here. Instead of setting pixels use %, something like 19% for the cell sizes and 100% for the table width

Using tables for layouts is a huge NONO with responsive design. You need to use something fluid like a <div> layout.

I guess the 100% refers to the template width as per the conventional stylesheet.css settings, though from Anne's comment below the issue might be more complicated with responsive designs. Any further thoughts?

Hi Anne and thanks for your reply which indicates the best way to proceed. If one is using EZ pages extensively - in my case I have about 100 such pages - I guess a <div> layout would best need to be built into an EZ pages plugin or such . .

So I am sure with your vast experience and all the responsive design work you are doing that you will already have considered how best to use EZ pages within responsive. Can you indicate if this is an area you are working on, and does anyone else have further thoughts?

You can have any layout that you want in an ezpage, just don't use tables for layout ;) Tables should only be used for tabular data. See this for some responsive code ideas for layouts:

Another excellent template Anne!

I've been adjusting the layout a bit and was hoping for a little help. I've enabled the right / left side boxes on the home page to make it 3 columns. I would now like to move the home page slideshow up above the side boxes and make it span the full with of the 3 columns. I also would like to pull the slideshow code out of the define_main_page and put it in one of the tpl files.

Suggestions?:D

I would move the call for the slide show to the tpl_header.php file.

Yup, thanks Anne. Also tweaked the styles so it's centered with the width that I want and removed the rest of the banner code from define_main_page since I am not using it. :smile:

I hope you can help with this one, I've searched through the thread but couldn't find an answer (I will apologise if I have missed the answer somewhere!)

On Mobile Views (mainly on Iphone4 and on my Galaxy S5 Mini) the 'Hamburger' Icon is not showing. I tested views using Firefox Web Developer (responsive design view), image attached shows the results of the Firefox testing and also a screenshot of my S5 Mini view.

Hi

I have downloaded and followed the process for adding files, however when I go to the admin screen to select the template, it is just blank, with no errors logged, can someone help me figure this out.

I have done a new install of Zen cart 1.5.4
running on php 5.3

I have reloaded all the distribution files and they are fine but when I add the westminster template files this is when the admin side breaks

Any help much appreciated

What version of zen cart are you running?

You can remove all of the installer files for the admin and install the sql manually.

Adjust line 290 in the repsonsive_mobile.css file. If you move things around or customize the template you may have to make css adjustments to the other elements. Be sure that you do a good test before you go live.

I noticed that the demo version has zen colorbox installed, but the download doesn't seem to include that? Is zen colorbox what does the image hover effect on the product details page? :blink:

I am not sure that is a good solution but it seems to work for me (can't test on IE)

On another note, using Mini Opera I struggle to scroll the Categories menu. The second I touch the screen to scroll down the categories, the page starts to move down and then menu disappears. Dolphin and the built in Android browser are fine. Haven't solved that one yet !

Sorry am really new at this

Where is the sql file? or is it the php file that is in the installer folder?

As mentioned before I am running Zen Cart Version 1.5.4.

I think that you were looking at the premium version of the template. The free version does have zen lightbox installed. I will be switching it over to zen color box on the next update.

I am not sure that is a good solution but it seems to work for me (can't test on IE)

On another note, using Mini Opera I struggle to scroll the Categories menu. The second I touch the screen to scroll down the categories, the page starts to move down and then menu disappears. Dolphin and the built in Android browser are fine. Haven't solved that one yet !

Just noticed that both the Westminster and Winchester temples have a disappearing goto TOP slider when viewed in portrait mode on an iPhone 3GS (I know it's old, but it's the only apple phone I have). In other words, it appears as long as finger-down on the screen and disappears when you lift your finger. Landscape view works correctly...

If i use the mobile phone view on my computer, this shows up in the middle. Hole space is filled. Love that.
Computer view I find that the middle is empty and therefor I would like to move the tagline from under the logo, to the middle, to the right side of the logo.

So i have my little search box on the right, logo on the left and would like to have the tagline in the middle.
Is it possible to change that for only the computer view and if so how do I do that?
(i can find my stylesheets, #logo and #tagline, but don't know what part i have to change)

Yes, you can make your changes in the stylesheet.css file. Be sure to test tablets and phones after you make changes.

I have supplied a link to my site in the hope that you would be so kind as to take a look at it for me and hopefully assist me in making a few changes that I would really like to put into place to make it perfect for my needs.

I really just want to make a few changes to the landing page.

1. Right in the top where it says "log in" to the left of it I would like to add a home button that I can route to my main info page to make the site more seamless if you know what I mean. The main info page is www.marshallmusic.co.za which is what I would like this icon to link to.

2. In the same location to the right of "Wish List I would like to add a "Contact us" link

3. Below the search box, keeping in line with proportion I would like the manufacturers dropdown and then directly below that a space where I can insert an image stating that we ship for free on all orders over R1000.00

4. Where the Hometop banner is I would like to display the "category list" for ease of access for clients and extend the width of the slider banner a little for more advertising real estate.

Thank you so very much I really appreciate all your assistance and everything you indirectly teach the whole Zen Cart community. You really should get a salary for this, I am truly learning so much. This whole coding thing is so much harder than I thought :-) .

If you take a look at the plugins section at the other menus, there is at lease one that has an alternate ul generator file which allows for top level categories to display as the main links. I do not remember the name, but I think it might be css flyout menu?

I am sorry, but I can not help you without a link to your site. I am others have told you this more than a few times.

My best advice (and I have also told you this before) is to use chrome and the web developer tools if you want to make changes to the css.

I am bolding the things that speaks to what you have asked of the OP in more than one response, not to yell at the OP, but to re-emphasize the point you have patiently (and repeatedly) tried to make..

Beautiful template. Thank you!
I needed to upgrade, and also needed a fresh new look, so I've chosen this beautiful template.
But I stumbled from the start.
After a fresh install of zen-cart 1.5.4. and Westminster-new v1.3. next step was to change the logo. I did as instructed in the read me file but then I encountered a problem: My logo is not the same size as the original logo so when I resize the browser window, the menu icon (the one with three horizontal lines) shows underneath the black line on top of the site
I have tried resizing my logo, but I couldn't resize it lower than 215x108, I would prefer it a little larger though (140px height). I have tried editing the stylesheet.css and the responsive_default.css but didn't get the desired location.
Please help me fix it.

Anne would you have a moment to take a look at my site when a product info page is displayed, as the page is not looking as it should with the tabs for "Description, Details, Reviews and Custom".

I really do not see why the tab split of information is not working and instead my page shows all the information down the page.

Thus far I have only added this one product for testing my site.

These symptoms indicate a jscript conflict. The jquery library is probably being called twice on the page. I would look to any plugins you have installed that are using the jquery library. Make sure that you only call the main library once ;)

Okay thank you Anne. I have a thought that it is either the Restricted Download plugin which is for restricting product purchase by ip for certain countries (as my store is a digital store) or it is the Rewards points suite.

I noticed that in the Restrict Digital Downloads plugin it states that RDD uses a jQuery script to disable any download-related product options; the minimum version required is v1.7.0. If no other version of jQuery is detected, the file /includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/jscript/jscript_jquery_cdn.js will load jQuery v1.11.1.

I did remove this jscript file however no change to the problem on my product display page.

I appreciate this is not a problem related to your template and this is going to be another party plugin, I would be really happy for any suggestions as I have no idea what I need to look at or where you might look to see if the jquery library is being called more than once, any tips please as this is above me somewhat?

I have narrowed down the troublesome plugin to be "Restrict Digital Downloads" as it places four overrides within the YOUR TEMPLATE area being document_general_info, document_product_info, document_info, and document_music_info.

As soon as I removed these four folders and the content file they each have called "restrict_digital_downloads.php" the problem was fixed with the layout of the product display information on my website.

I just wanted to share here for future or anyone considering the plugin as you will need to find a work around for this plugin if you do not want it to cause a break in the template product display information page.

Hi Anne,

Would you please be so kind to shed some light on a troublesome CSS issue I am having with my site. I am so close to having the site the way I envisioned but for this pesky problem with the display of the Heading for "New Products For May" etc on the home page.

The title appears to half show / load in firefox however in google Chrome I can see the headings in full with no trouble

I am leading to it being a CSS problem but 6 hours later I am still reading CSS and searching the web for answers but am hitting a wall :-( would you have a suggestion I could try to fix this issue?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :-)

Hi, I have recently installed this template on my website and am very satisfied in the over all. I just have two questions:
1) I want to add a third tab at the top of the page for manufacturers, can I do this through the admin? If not which file do I have to alter?
2) I want to have a Specifications tab in some of my products. In my old site I used a plugin and all I had to do was write in the script while writing the product description:  and that would add the tab, since you have tabbed products in the template I didn't want to touch it. Is there a way to add a tab to a product other than your predefined tabs?

1. You can edit the includes/templates/westminser_new/templates/tpl_modules_mobile_categories_tabs.php file

2. You can add another tab by editing the includes/templates/westminser_new/templates/tpl_product_info_display.php file. If the info is the same for each product you can create a banner and add your info to the banner. If you want different info for each product you will need to create a custom product field and add it to a new tab.

Thanks for your reply.
I know I have to edit the tpl_modules_mobile_categories_tabs.php file in order to add the manufacturers tab however I don't know much in php and couldn't figure out what I should add in order for this tab to be created and take the manufacturers information from my db. As for the tab in the products page - I will look into it.

My advice would be to take a look at another template package that has the manufacturers drop down already and copy the code to this template package ;)

In the file includes/templates/westminster_new/templates/tpl_contact_us_default.php I am finding this code twice, once on line 20 and then again on line 52 (latest download of this template as of today):

I have recently installed this template on 5 of my client's sites. On every single site the store address shows up twice on the 'Contact Us' page - even 3 times if the define page contains the store address and other wording.

I did get around this (what I would call a bug) by editing that file and removing the chunk starting at line 20, then changing the chunk starting at line 52 to read

Just noticed post #568 - that bug was reported earlier but it still leaves the possibility of 2 contact address blocks if the define page is not blank. So, changing line 52 onwards should be incorporated into the next update as well.

I would like to add a link to google+ in my footer along with the rest of the social networks but I couldn't find where you placed the icons so that I can add an icon that'll look like the rest.

I know that the background of the icons is in the css however I don't know where the letters are coming from (fa-fa-'sn_name').

The icons are using font awesome. Just do a google search for the site with complete usage instructions ;)

I have just installed it and playing with all the features today, and I was wondering if the text and the semi-transparent ribbon on the flex banner can be completely removed? or if easier, can I just set the text and the ribbon to transparent so I can't see them? Yes, you can either do a display:none; on it or if you read back in this thread (you may have to search the forum) there is another code suggestion for hiding the banner titles.

I thought i'd post this on here for anyone to use in the future as I was going to post it originally with a question asking for your assistance but I managed to find the answer myself however.

I wanted to move product attributes to above the 'add to cart button' so that customers pre selected the options if required before adding product to cart. The attributes were originally displaying at the bottom of the page.

You have probably put content into the box that is using an absolute url using http

Sure, thank you. If you look at it on ssl, there is no slide out box, but the content that is supposed to be in the box is down in the lower left corner of the page.

OK I fixed the google font code, but the other code is in two of the westminster_new template files (tpl_index_categories.php and tpl_index_default.php) like this:

This request has been blocked; the content must be served over HTTPS.

These three points need fixing by changing http:// to //, so the scripts are loaded without a preferred protocol

Change http_server to https_server

If I remember correctly there are posts earlier in this thread that mention all of the places in the template that need to be changed for ssl.
