This is a post from numinix web site about running cron jobs.

So you want to manually have your base feed ftp to Google Base? Well, it doesn't work on GoDaddy's shared hosting accounts due to limitations. However, just login to google base and setup a scheduled fetch of your product feed.
Enter the URL location of the feed: https://www.powerhourstore.com/feed/domain_products.xml
It pretty much accomplishes the same tasks. It's auto-pilot!
I hope this helps some of you with this issue, it sure helped me.Quote:
Response from numinix powerhour, that is really great information. I didn't know Google was now offering that service. I would definitely recommend this for everyone as it would also reduce cpu load from having a cron run on a daily schedule.
Worked, thanks!
I'm glad you have it working.
That method would defeat the purpose of a cron job and would take just as much time to upload your feed file directly through the Google website or with your own client FTP program.
The new method is the way to go and I will eventually update the documentation once I've tested it out myself.
First off thanks for the contribution and support. I do however have one error on the feed that causes Google to break while processing the feed. It looks like an HTML character is the source of the problem "ü". I replaced it with a regular "u" and everything worked fine. I am using 1.6.15 with zen 1.3.8. Does anyone else have problems with encoded letters? Should a string replace in zen_xml_sanitizer function be used to catch this?
I have just decided to change this character to a regular "U" in my admin due mainly to SEO reasons. I don't know if it matters for those or not but it's a select number of products so why not. Thought I might point this out.
Thanks
Hi,
i am using version 1.3.7 and just installed google base feeder 1.6.14a. under the folder "sql updates", i just copy and paste all the updates from the 1_6_12 backward until mysql told me that there is a duplicate entry.
everything goes fine and i can generate a xml feed without any problem. but when i tried to open the xml file in IE, it told me that there is a problem at this particular line. i do a comparison with my previous working version and discover this:
original text on my website: Hörbiger
the working version of xml: Hrbiger
after upgrade: Hörbiger
Can someone advise me what should i do with the utf code? it it those weird code (Hörbiger) that cause ie and google fail to read the xml file. tks a million
andy
You should have gone forward from the previous version, not backward. Just write down all your google base settings, run the uninstall sql, then run the new install sql, then put all your settings in and you should be fine.
Hi,
Thank you for you reply. I have first copy and past the content of uninstall.sql. then i copy and paste the content of googlefroogle.sql. enter my settings again and export the xml file. however, the same error occurs: i.e Hörbiger
can someone advise please?
tks a lot

So, can we use this with ZC 1.3.7?
Yes, it was written for 1.3.7+
I posted this on the Numinix Forum last night. Still no joy so trying here.

Hi,
I just installed this google base addon tonight and in the Tools/Google Base Feeder page when I run the "Click Here to Create" I get a blank window pop up, and when I view the results I get my custom 404 page indicating that no file is being output.
ZenCart is a fresh install of 1.3.8 (only been using the software for a few weeks). The only other addon is the Google Analytics tie in which I just installed before this add on and it is working fine.
There is no wordpress add-on installed as mentioned by an earlier poster with the same issue.
I checked the php code and it indicates that I should get a 'die' message if the directory is not writable, so as a test I Chmod'ed the feed directory from 777 to 444 just to see if I would get an error message and there was no change, same blank box.
In the configuration I have tried the store address ( http://www.magneticbreeze.com/ZenCart) with and without a trailing slash with no change.
The view link does point to the feed directory but the file magbreeze23 is never created.
I'm usually pretty good at troubleshooting and testing these things, but I'm at a 5am dead end and about to give up for the night, so any ideas or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Eric Burke

edit: using FireFox 3. hosting is 1and1.com, in case that might be relevant.
2nd edit: Since posting this I have also created an empty output file and chmoded it to 777 with no change other than view now shows me the empty file.

Try following the instructions posted here: http://www.numinix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=985#985
These instructions can be followed for almost any module with the table name and column differing depending on the module.
so since the day i installed worpress when i wanna update or create google data feed i get this erro : ERROR: yes is not a valid feed template and also on the tittle of the page says: Wordpress > Error..please help me on that
thanks
Ok...i did get that errorwhile upgrading from the older froogle to google base feeder on 1.3.8a....using mysql 5. Deleted the rows with "google" in the config id table, and the sql statement ran ok when cut and pasted.Code:1062 Duplicate entry 'GOOGLE_FROOGLE_USERNAME' for key 2
Problem: The feed looks weird. Just a list in an excell file. I used to get a txt file and could open it in excell and edit it to conform to google base product by product in the required columns. The feed is not appearing in rows in the excell table. I also have multiple copies of Google Base under my admin > configuration.
1. How can I get a txt feed?
2. How can I get one copy in the admin? - saw this somewhere in the forum will keep checking.....
3. How do I uninstall and re install the whole shabang if needed?

Module. It has a Google txt feed so all you have to do is upload it to google.
Go to your phpMyAdmin data base, go down to the configuration_group click on that. Check the configuration_group_title hit the little icon browse go through the list of configuration_group_titles and remove the extra copy.Quote:

Do the same above go to your phpMyAdmin data base, click on the configuration click on the configuration_title, click browse icon and go through the tables that deal with GOOGLE_FROOGLE and delete each one of them. Go to configuration_group click on that. Check the configuration_group_title hit the little icon browse go through the list of configuration_group_titles and remove Google Base Feeder Configuration, your done. Be Aware if you don't know what you are doing you could mess your data base up. Backup, Backup, Backup before you attemp this......Quote:
3. How do I uninstall and re install the whole shabang if needed?
Thanks for this mod...but
I went into the database and deleted the google records and re-installed the version found on the contributor's site. Really helps to take your time and install as instructed the first time. It is possible something got corrupted, but this reinstall went very smoothly and produced a feed.
Everything seems fine EXCEPT:
STILL CAN'T PRODUCE A FILE THAT LOOKS LIKE MY OLD FEED WITH COLUMNS AND ROWS. I can't tell if all my items are there except for the number which is about 100 items less than my current feed at Google Base.
OH...SORRY WE MUST HAVE BEEN POSTING AT THE SAME TIME...WILL READ ABOVE....
Thank you for the quick reply. I did do those things in a sort of "winging it" spirit....I must have been around the zencart block a few times, I guess after all....
Rather than install a new mod I'd like to make sure I'm getting the right results from this one. Is the xml file supposed to just be a column of code and not in rows and columns? If so, how does one verify the feed is accurate?
What I was saying is if you renamed your admin folder in your Root directory you need to make sure you rename the admin folder in the google_base_feeder folder to match it. Like I have my admin folder Rename to tighting up own security, so that would be using a part of a override system.
Can anybody help me on my problem
athena when you go to admin/tools/Google Base Feeder and Create Product Feed , does it create one? If it does you can then view your product feed file to see whats there before you go over to google to upload it, or if your host lets you, you can upload it from your admin. If you have it installed right it will create a xml feed file. As for the txt file I have not been able to create one with this Module. I can with the quick update Module.
Thank you. No, I can't take advantage of the ftp features with my host.
Yes, I can see the preview but it is too time consuming to look at the feed that way. I have to study this a little and come up with a new plan.
I made some assumptions based on what I was used to with old version of Google Froogle we've been using since 06. It produced a txt file and then I would preview it in ms excell, format it there to match the changing protocals from Google Base, and then update that file with our new products and sale prices with each upload. (not too time consuming, eh?)
The new xml file opened right up in excell so i said "Yeah!" and didn't pay attention to the "xml" and assumed it was "xls"
Just used to verifying at a glance by scrolling through the records of products that all my duckies are in a row ;) before I upload it.
My main concern is that i'm missing about 100 products in my trial feed.
The current status:
I’m running 1.3.8a ZenCart with the following plugins (add-ons)
Easy Populate - Image Handler2 - Fast and Easy Checkout - Live Chat (Customer Service)
I have downloaded, and installed, Google Base feeder (Numinex) version 1.6.16, I have copied and pasted the sql file after manually deleting google base and google froogle files from the database. I can now create both product and downloadable feed files.
The Problem:
I can’t get the files to upload from the Google Base Feeder but I can manually upload the generated files by browsing from Googles “Manual Upload” link. The files are accepted and 631 out of 662 products are accepted by Google. This is no problem.
I, obviously would like to be able to upload from my Admin panel. When I attempt to upload the files from Admin, I get: no response from server, per this:Network Error
1. Unable to read URL from host www.shopsbyron.com: no response from server
I’m not sure whether the problem is at my end or my settings in Google. I note that the Google setting has me for “Manual upload”, which works when I do it from their end. I have attempted to confirm that this is the proper setting when not running Magic SEO (automatic), but it would appear it’s o.k.
I have searched both Numinex and the ZenCart sites but can’t locate a similar posted issue and reply. Hope I’m not duplicating an issue!
Any suggestions would be more than greatly apprciated. Hope it’s not something that is directly attributable to my advanced years!!
Thanks! Ron
I understand what you are saying, and I have never been able to get this Module to index all my product either. Almost all of them, but not all of them for some reason. The one's that do I'm counting on them to do the job for the one's that don't if that makes since. Sorry I am not able to help you.Quote:

Does the Quick Update mod catch all your products and is it useful for uploading to Google Base?
also....any problem with just using my old version of google froogle that runs on 1.3.0.2?
I'm sorry it's not the quick update Module, it's the Easy Populate Module. I don't know if the one in the downloads has this feature or not. The version I have is a bought version and it has an google base txt export feature. If you would like to try it PM me. Yes it will catch all your product, but not with out some errors you may have to fix first. Google will except it with no problem, but they will inform you of what errors you have on what products and what line in the file you need to fix them. In this case your Decription or something on your site is not just right. Text Editor problems. I like it and use it a lot.Quote:

Great! I have Easy Populate...a bought version but have not used it in awhile and have not upgraded it. I'll look into that.
I hope everything works out for you.
You know, this is a real deal-breaker for this mod if it misses products.
If I could get a txt file to preview as in our old version I could edit it but this xml thing is also a real deal-breaker since you can't preview your feed.
EP....just not convinced the "advanced" high priced version is stable enough as the current one has had many problems with the froogle feed.
I'm also thinking upgrading to 1.3.8a is a bit of deal breaker if I can't use my current reliable methods of generating a product feed for Google Base.
woe is me.
just installed this contribution. when ever i click on tools-> google base feeder, i get the error message:
"The webpage cannot be found"
Most likely causes:
There might be a typing error in the address.
If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.
never mind i got it working.
Another question:
in the Google Base Feeder Configuration, what do i put for shipping options?
also, what do i put for Tax Region?
how do i configure these options?
What shipping method do you use to ship. UPS Ground, USPS or what. That is what goes there.Quote:
in the Google Base Feeder Configuration, what do i put for shipping options?
I would not put anything in there. Once you create and xml file and upload it to google when they click on the link it will take them to your site and if you have a tax Region set up if will do what you want it to do anyway, so don't worry about that right now.Quote:

Hello,
I can create the feed fine, but when I go to upload I get the error:

I did create FTP in Google Base. I did enter my username and password into the settings in ZC Admin.
So, not sure why it would be doing this.
Use v1.6.16 if you aren't going to add quantities to your products. Previous versions will not include the product unless the quantity is greater than 0.
Thanks for the input here. I was able to get my old version of google_froogle_feeder_1.3.3 to work with 1.3.8a and produce a txt file for me that I can use to edit my master excell file. Until I can learn more about xml this will get me by.
The point of the module is that you shouldn't have to be editing the file. You should be customizing the code to output the way you'd like or store attributes permanently in your Zen Cart so that the feeder can use them.
Well...that is the ideal...but it is still telling me I have 100 less active products than I know I have and I can't see where it is logically missing them. These are instock items. 100 is about 1/6 of my store. I am using quantities. The older version doesn't miss them...and I get a txt file I can actually look at and see what is there....or not.....and not to be ungrateful for all your hard work on this project....i'm willing to work with this as is until I can learn more about how to read and/or edit the xml file.
A fix could be done quite quickly if you could list what is common between these 100 listings, and not the other 500 products. Are they the same product type?
Hi numinix I'm getting the same problem also. I have 2103 products in my store and the xml file always comes up shot like this. All my products are listed by the model. Thanks for your help.

see, that is the thing. I can't tell which ones the xml output is leaving out. I can't read it. I just know we have 600 products, the txt output of the old google-froogle is accurate and shows the exact number....but i don't know how to see what the xml is missing.
I too am having the missing products problem. It only exported 297 products when I have 544 active products in my cart. Trying to determine which ones are missing is not an easy task.
I am also noticing issues with formatting in the descriptions text.
Example, the word "can't" with the ' symbol comes out as "can39;t"
I wonder if this plays any role in google base not reading all my products from the XML file?
I'm using UPS for shipping and it calculating fine but I'd like to have USP ground as the default method within Google Checkout. Instead it defaults to in-store pickup and then lists the UPS options with Ground being the last option. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Can I use the latest version of this module on Zencart 1.3.7?
And
Will this module work with Google Base?
I'm aware of the invalid characters and have come up with a solution which is currently in testing. If it works, it will be implemented in the Windows Live Product Search Feeder as well.

Hi
I am using Google Base Feeder v.1.6.16 on zencart 1.3.8a and all my products are showing as disapproved.
When the file is generated it shows the products having 0 quantity and USD as currency.
The products in the shop show in £ as does the cofiguration of google base feeder.
The products are also in the shop showing correct quantity.
Also the domain is not showing, yet set in the configuration.
Heres the top part of my feed file.
Any Ideas why this is ?

I had installed 1.6.15 on ZC 1.3.8 and it was working great... But now I am getting this error when I try and manually generate my feed
"ERROR: yes is not a valid feed template"
The only other issue I could find on this was somebody thought it was do to the "wordpress on Znecart" contribution which I am inclined to believe as I also have it and the time table is right. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be breaking here or where I should start looking for conflicts in the code.
Thanks,

I have recently upgraded to 1.6.17 and have the following problem, linked products are being included with the master categories.
I have read earlier posts about fully uninstalling any previous versions including any data from the froogle feeder days and used the current sql statements.
I also viewed previous posts that say in earlier versions this was fixed. Can someone please verify and help on this issue as well?

Hi All
All my frrogle products are now uploading properly after a bit of juggling.
Thanks to all who helped.
I tried to run my froogle file from a cron job, but my isp says that the way their cron is setup it will not take parameters when a file is called.
I run an import php routine from my suppliers every 4 hours.
I would like to call the froogle uploader file at the end of the import php file, so that every time there is an update of products it uploads to froogle too.
Could you tell me the command that I would need to place in the import php file to do this.
Thanks again for your assistance.
Hi All,
Can anyone please tell me how you get the feed to list your sale/specials price?
I'm sorry if the answer was posted and I missed it.
Thanks,
Kelly
I'm sorry...I just realized I'm using an older version of the contribution. I updated it and it works great!
Once again, sorry
Thanks,
Kelly
does the google base feeder mod work with the ultimate seo mod.
What urls are uploaded in the feed? are they seo friendly urls or zencarts original urls.
many thanks
Snowkrash the thread for the two mods working together is located here... starts about half way down the page and continues for a few posts.

Cheers,
Gauranteed compatibility can be found between Magic SEO URLs and the MSU Add-on.
numinix,
I'm sorry but I had googlefroogle working perfect until I installed the SEO URLs package. I'm not quite sure what's going on but I keep getting this error ("ERROR: yes is not a valid feed template") when trying to create my feed. I'm using the 1.6.17 version of your mod and the latest SEO URLs mod. But i can't seem to get rid of this.
any help would be appreciated Thanks,
Sorry about any confusion I might have caused. I found out that the problem I was having was because of the conflicting Wordpress on Zencart modification and the Google Base Feeder and had nothing to do with the SEO mod.
Again sorry for any confusion
cheers,
I have had a cron job running for a few months now, and it worked great
GET 'http://www.shoepeddlers.com/googlefroogle.php?feed=yes&upload=yes&type=products' > /dev/null 2>&1
The file created was shoepeddlers_products.xml and all product were listed
My hosting company switched to a new server
the difference is
apache 2 as compared to 1.3.9
more cpus
more ram
more speed and better security
and a new version of cpanel
now the cron would not run untill I changed it to use “WGET”
now it runs, but it saves the files to shoepeddlers_.xml and no products are listed
the contence of the files is just this
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<rss version="2.0" xmlns:g="http://base.google.com/ns/1.0">
<channel>
<title>Shoe Peddlers</title>
<link>http://www.shoepeddlers.com</link>
<description>shoepeddlers</description>
I’ve been work with the hosting company, but we can’t seem to figure it out.
Any suggestions please:frusty::frusty:

I have a problem when I set Magic SEO URL's to true, there's no output, I have Magic SEO URL's Installed.
everything works correctly with Magic SEO URL's set to false.
Is there some other configuration required?
I tried searching for a answer, but there's too many threads.
any help would be great
the MSN and Yahoo feeders do the same thing, work set to false, no out put when set to true.

Hello,
I just updated by feeder from a very old version to the latest version on the download pages. I'm using Zencart 1.3.7 and when I upload my feed to Google I'm getting errors. The errors are:
This attribute is no longer supported. Please use a supported attribute. for label.
We Recommend including this attribute for UPC, MPN, ISBN, and brand
The item is missing a required attribute for id. It seems to be blank for all my products in the feed.
Any ideas?
I'm having the exact same problem as fvb:
My host uses CPanel as well; my cron cmd line:Quote:
...it saves the files to shoepeddlers_.xml and no products are listed...
What am I missing?Code:curl -s http://your_http_catalog/googlefroogle.php?feed=yes&upload=no&type=products
Hi all
Apologies if this is an obvious question but I cannot find an answer in this thread.
I currently use this wonderful module to submit to google uk but I would also like to submit simultaneously to google usa.
Any suggestions as to how I do this?
Thanks in advance

Bichon Hotel- healthy products for healthy dogs
I need an automation of the xml file creation on the server.
can I do that w/o setting up a cron job?
I've insatlled this mod on two sites.
Everything seems to work ok -
Checked the feed tahat is created and products are there.
I then upload the feed and the feed "says" it uploaded to google- but when I check the uploaded file, it shows -0- products. The feed doesn't appear in the list of feeds on googlebase either.
This happens for both sites.
What am I missing???
Tina
PS - I can manually updload the feed file just fine!
OK - I just got an error that I need to register the feed - did it will try to upload again.
That's all I needed. File status "SUCCESS" with googleBase.Quote:
OK - I just got an error that I need to register the feed - did it will try to upload again.
Thanks,
Tina
The difference between USA and UK I think is just a change in configuration for not including the location, correct? If so, just clone the module to have different filenames and configuration keys and then you could have two versions running simultaneously.
Okay, I've tried everything I can remotely think of so...I'll start from scratch.
I've been using the Google Base Feed Uploader for a long while now and have had very few problems. Whenever I had a problem I would go in and change an illegal character from a product so that the feed would go through. My feeds automatically get updated every Monday night and every Friday morning. Last Friday's went fine, Monday nights didn't get any status change until late last night. It was "Successful with errors" and only 834 of 1147 products were inserted. I looked at the products and descriptions and nothing seemed wrong...so I checked to see if there was an upgrade. Noticed that there was a new upgrade out and upgraded. Still didn't work....thought maybe my upgrade was corrupt so I used the uninstall sql and then re-installed it with the googlefroogle sql....still having issues. Went in and moved two products to a category that I put on the "excluded" list so that they wouldn't be sent to the Google Base feed....still having problems. The errors it's giving me are for products that always got listed previously, all I did between Friday and Monday night was add 7 products. Any ideas?
I'd post the Google error details here but considering it's over 200 products that it won't insert....well...it would be a novel.
New update....
I've now also tried completely removing and then installing the Base Feeder fresh and that didn't work. I then tried to exclude ALL of the products that I added since the issue and that didn't work either.
I'm beginning to think that this isn't actually an issue with the Base Feeder now and that maybe Google changed something and now we have to figure out how to fix the Base Feeder to link to it again.
Sorry for the triple post but....after reading through all the issues I'm having right now it seems that the biggest cause of my problems is "invalid characters" being the "Trademark logo" (I forgot how to type it) and apostrophes and such. I thought you put a fix in for those issues?
I'm not sure if this has been answered as there is no easy way to search the post.
I have everything installed and while the mod is working, it does not pickup a single item I have in a category with no other products. It does catch all of the items I have in other categories though. Those other categories have multiple products in them, the one I'm having problems with does not.
Anybody else experience this?
Following up on this cron job problem: I have the same thing with the output file in /feed. It just creates myfilename_.xml instead myfilename_products.xml exactly as described in the quote. Now I checked my google base account and the file lists as successfully uploaded by the cron at the specified time and products were inserted. Strange, but somehow it still works even if the local file does not get created the way I expected, the upload of ALL products worked.
wget works for my cpanel. File in /feed does not show correctly. Upload and insertion of all products in google base works. Don't know why this is. Anybody see the same happening?
