Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Quick question concerning the htaccess file. Our store is in a subdirectory of our root and I do not have an htaccess file in the store's root directory. Do I need to add one with the additions you have outlined for the htaccess or do I put those in my site's root htaccess file?
Thanks
Rick

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Actually, it looks like the issue may be a result of my customized header. When I install the header with the download there is no issue. I'll have to look at my header to try and see what it's missing. I won't lie it's my heavily modified, so that's the problem.:lamo:

I would think in the store's root, since the header menu is for the store, and the .htaccess is for the menu.

Oh you didn't do anything. And didn't mean to direct heat your way or offend ya. Just trying to motivate toolatesmart into uploading his mod version under a new name and create a new support thread. I now know that he is new here and probably just didn't understand the implications/confusion that could arise. (but it's easy for me to sit here and forecast the impending confusion as I've already seen it occur with a number of mod projects). Anyway I really like what toolatesmart did with his version, adding the second line for categories. For some folks that will be right up their ally and others will probably prefer Jade's version. There is no competition here. Matter of fact I just took on a project that toolatesmart's version would be very useful. I just hope I didn't scare him off. Didn't mean to. Sorry.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Gday guys.
First, thx for this great mod, it keeps me getting closer to a nice looking frontend.
Second - I experience somehow 2 problems:
First, the header bar is a few pixels too long (on the right side) - I tried to play around in the stylesheet of the header, no success...
Second, after changing the z-values in the stylesheet lightbox, I now have the actual lightbox "over" the header, but the header does still not "gray out"... (I tried the proposed coding solution in header_php, but I do not want the header to disappear but only to "gray out"....
any help is needed and greatly appreciated

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
.. I forgot to say that with the gray-overlay, a possible "hoving over" over the header bar should be impossible as well... (I think Woody had the same idea a few posts ago)....
again... thx //heaps ;) for help...

Have you tried the solution here:
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...3&postcount=50
I guess that's what you were referring to.
I had also mentioned adjusted z-index's for someone else, and I remember getting the header menu grayed out as well.
Did you try changing this zen index as I mentioned in post #49:
"No, I wouldn't know how to "completely" hide it, but changing #overlay's z-index to 1000 will help hide it like the rest of the site."

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
AND AGAIN! - WOW - what a community! Great guys....
the z-index of the overlay to 1000 did it... I had it @900 i guess... so thx for that... to your post woody: I tried that already before my post but all it did was remove the bar completely when the lightbox was "in action" . Is this the codes aim?
To the first problem (the bar is about 20px to long and goes over my customized milhuna template).. you can see it in the screenshot on the right side... can you help as well???
ps: I tried to change the "width" in the stylesheet but it did not show the desired effect.
Thx for this greatly appreciated help!

Yes indeed.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
well... solved the with problem myself... since I am using a fixed width in px, I had to change the width from "em" to "px" also.. strange that it doesnt convert right but I am happy that it worked.... thx anyway.

I don't believe what I did was "removed". I believe it was overwritten by jettrue repeatedly uploading his newer version.

I'm not aware of the politics and don't care to be. It looks like both mod versions deserve praise. And sounds like you are behind your mod supporting it 100%. Which is great.
However personally I'm so sorry you just don't get what you did and are so defensive about it. Just because the upload made it past the "reviewer" does not make what you did right. And I'm sure you notice by now your upload has been removed. So please upload your package with a new name and start a new thread and let others enjoy your nice work. Good luck.

Please re-read my remark. I did not say that "you" removed. And you'll see both the original version 1.0 (uploaded Feb 17 2007) and the latest version (uploaded Mar 21 2007) are both available. The removed 1.1 version you uploaded came in between Jade's versions. So your theory that Jade repeatedly uploaded his version to remove your version is incorrect. Why do you be-labor this issue? Done deal. Over with.
I see you uploaded your version under a new name and it is now available.

That toggles on for logged in users who chose to subscribe to the newsletter when creating an account. (that is if you enabled in admin to display newsletter subscribe/unsubscribe in your Information Sidebox).
If you want to enable Guest accounts to sign up for a newsletter there is a Newsletter Subscribe mod available in the Zen cart downloads area. With that mod installed then you add a static link to that subscribe page in your header dropdown menu. Not certain how to make that one dynamic, as I've never used that mod (for the shops I work on account registration is required to receive newsletter).

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
I noticed an extra, empty menu item on the right side of the menubar next to "Shopping Cart". It can also be seen at Jade's example site here. Can anyone show me how to remove that? The empty menu item is skewing the entire menubar to the left. TIA.
-
Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
I did notice this too. What I did was to make the bar background the same as the level 1 background in the css:
#dropMenuWrapper
&
div#dropMenu ul.level1
I did it with an image but I guess you can do it with normal colours.
I'm no programmer but it seemed to do the trick. You can see it on my test site:

Technically its not an empty menu item... its just leftover space. For some reason I can't remember, I liked having the menu left justified and not centered. Also, every item has a 1px white bar to the right of it in the css, so that's what that last white strip is.
But you can increase the padding a bit on this section in the stylesheet_header_menu.css
div#dropMenu li a {display: block; padding: .6em 2em .6em 2em;text-decoration: none; text-transform:uppercase; color:#ffffff; text-align:center; border-right:1px solid #ffffff;}
(adjust the 2em's, maybe to about 2.6em?)
But now I remember, you don't want to go to close to the edge, because different browsers will have slightly different spacing, and it may cause the menu to take up two lines without you realizing it.
If you want to keep the white lines between every other item, but want to take it off of the last item, you can do is open up includes/templates/common/tpl_drop_menu.php
and change:
<li><a href="<?php echo zen_href_link(FILENAME_SHOPPING_CART, '', 'NONSSL'); ?>"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_CART_CONTENTS; ?></a></li>
to:
<li><a class="noLine" href="<?php echo zen_href_link(FILENAME_SHOPPING_CART, '', 'NONSSL'); ?>"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_CART_CONTENTS; ?></a></li>
then add this to your stylesheet_header_menu.css:
div#dropMenu li a.noLine {border:none;}

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Very elegant jettrue.
I've made the adjustments you suggest but altered it so that I get the lines on the left and put an extra line on the right:

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Thanks for the advices Jade and Craig, I have changed spacing from 2em to 2.6em as well as adding a vertical line on the left of the "Home" menu.
Since I have very few categories and sub-categories, I am not too worried about centering the menu. Anyway I can do that? TIA.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Gday.
I experience another problem regarding the dropdown Menu in IE7 (btw: any updates on the hoverover, subcategory problem in IE7?), when you hover over the main categories they colorize. The active button then seems to be about 1 px bigger (to the bottom) than the rest of the menu. Anyone else experiencing these problems?
Comments? Workarounds?
Thx for support.
T.
ps: not in Firefox, but in IE7

Its just an issue with very slight differences in padding in IE vs Firefox. Does it cause any significant issues for you? From what I see its so slight to be barely noticeable.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Hey Jettrue,
thx for answering.
Lets say it that way: if its an easy fix or some slight adjustment of the code I will be happy to make the changes ( being a stupid perfectionist ;) )
If it needs a complete rewrite of code or some major changes I will definitly not swap this magnificent mod for just that 1 px.
So if you can easily help, please do :)
Greetings.
T.

Sorry guys, I can't seem to figure out how to fix this. I'm thinking its got to be a csshover.htc issue.

Well, to be honest, its so tiny that I can barely even see the issue, and I made some adjustments, but I can't tell if there is any difference (and I'm a perfectionist too!). Please use your extra discerning eye :P to look at my test site: http://www.zencart137.jadetrue.com and tell me if you still see the issue there. :hug:

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Hi Jade,
Thanks for the great plugin! I have a couple questions:
1) Is there a way to have a drop down for EZ pages?
For example, on the following link http://kiddo.outofdarkness.com/chelseagreen/ I have a page called "About Us" and underneath I'd like it to have sub pages. Right now I have the sub pages set up as chapters (ie. http://kiddo.outofdarkness.com/chels...id=6&chapter=1). Is this correct?? Or should I take a different approach??
2) When I move the piece of code "<?php require(DIR_WS_MODULES . 'sideboxes/' . $template_dir . '/' . 'ezpages_drop_menu.php'); ?>" it over rides the sort order and sorts alphabetically. Is there a way to have it sort by sort order??
I've attached the 2 files "tpl_drop_menu.php" and "tpl_ezpages_drop_menu.php". Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, this mod seems great, but are there any bugs with IE?
This has no doubt been covered endless times throughout the thread so forgive me for not trawling through all the posts. I'm just curious to know what the bugs are before I download it because I only have the old PPC macs and so can't test my sites on IE easily or regularly.

I wouldn't say there's any major IE bugs. Of course IE versions prior to IE7 need the csshover.htc file to function correctly. Also, there is a weird thing going on in IE7 where when you are hovering through the menu, then hover out of the menu without clicking anything, then go back to the menu, some of the text is invisible until you hover over the menu again. Its hard to describe, sorry! I don't know how often that will occur, you kind of have to things a certain way to see the issue.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
I have read some of this thread, but not all of it. I have changed my template to be more fluid and the header is left aligned, but your menu is centered. What do I need to adjust in your files to have it move to the left or what can I set to center the header again. It was fine at 750px, but I wanted it to be wider, so I went 80% on the template width.
Thanks,
Corbett

If you'd like the menu to go all the way accross, open up includes/templates/apple_zen/css/stylesheet_header_menu.css and change both 70em to 100%.

htaccess or csshover.htc error? ADD WWW and it doesn't work
Hello,
Great contribution. Works perfect in Mozilla, just IE6 issues. I haven't tested IE7.
What is happening in IE6: access the site http://domainname.com it works fine, but when you access the site http://www.domainname.com I get the following error: access is denied to: http://domainname.com/includes/csshover.htc
I 1st tried to include the additions_to_.htaccess to my htaccess file but it made no difference. My situation is a reverse than what the additions addresses. IN IE it works without the www, it doesn't work with the www included.
Am I on the right path?

I just made the following changes .htaccess. It now work. This is a rewrite to drop the www.
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^www\.domainname\.com [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://domainname.com/$1 [r=301,nc]
I'm not sure if this is a ideal fix, b/c I've tell to enable SSL and need to make sure this doesn't conflict with those settings.
Very nice contribution. Was wondering how difficult it would be to highlight a couple of the categories in the top level menu?

Glad that worked for you. It seems that perhaps your site is set up without the www by default with your hosting? So the .htc is actually on the http://domainname.com not http://www.domainname.com. Hopefully your SSL cert was set up there as well.
As far as highlighting a category in the menu, you mean you'd like the background color for certain categories to be different?

No, I mean, I'd like to put two of the category names, to the right of the information box, so when you mouse over the category the sub-categories drop down.
For Example:
Home | Categories (all) | Information | Category Name1 | Category Name2 | etc.

I would probably just hard code that manually, if the categories you want to highlight are going to stay the same.

Re: htaccess or csshover.htc error? ADD WWW and it doesn't work
Just a quick note, IE6 (google too, not sure about other SEs) considers www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com to be TWO separate domains. For IE crossing from one to the other creates a security error which refuses to load the .htc file. Modifying the .htaccess with the rewrite from www.mydomain.com to mydomain.com as listed above is the best solution.

Just do it with regular 'ole html, mimicking the category HTML that is produced by viewing the source of your site, something like this:
Code:
<li class="submenu"><a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1">Main Category Name</a>
<ul class="level2">
<li><a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2">Subcategory A</a></li>
<li class="submenu"><a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3">SubCategory B</a>
<ul class="level3">
<li class="submenu"> <a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4">Sub Sub Category of B</a>
<ul class="level4">
<li> <a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=5">Sub Sub Sub Category of B</a></li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>

You said I can add or delete links on the header menu by working on include/template/your template/tpi_header.php.
I want to add a link of "the latest news" (instead of in the sidebox), below the "Home", under "Search" (you will see "seach" when you hover on "HOME".
Could you please tell me how to do it? My site is www.loveinrose.com. Thank you!!
Lina

Actually, in the readme.txt, I have this:
You can add or remove links from the header menu by opening up includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/tpl_drop_menu.php.
But if you open the above file, you can simple add the link right after this:
Code:
<li><a href="<?php echo zen_href_link(FILENAME_ADVANCED_SEARCH); ?>"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_SEARCH; ?></a></li>
Like This:
Code:
<li><a href="index.php?main_page=news_archiv">Name of link here</a></li>

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
This may be a repost, but "Discount Coupons" is misspelled...
and I noticed on some users' sites that they still have the typo in their dropdown menu.

Thanks! Someone caught that before, but I had forgotten to fix it. Its now been updated on my puter, so the next upgrade won't have the issue.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Me Again!
I would like to add a manufacturers list to the drop down menu such that each manufacturers products could be listed in a similar manner to the categories drop down.
I could add the new category in the HTML:
Code:
<li class="submenu">MAMUFACTURERS</a>
<ul class="level2">
<li><a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2">This Manufacturer</a></li>
<ul class="level3">
<li class="submenu"> <a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4">Product 1</a></li>
<li class="submenu"> <a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4">Product 2</a></li>
<li class="submenu"> <a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4">Product 3</a></li>
</ul>
<li class="submenu"><a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3">That Manufacturer</a>
<ul class="level3">
<li class="submenu"> <a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4">Product 1</a></li>
<li class="submenu"> <a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4">Product 2</a></li>
<li class="submenu"> <a href="index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4">Product 3</a></li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
But longer term that would be difficult to maintain. I had hoped to be able to assign products to manufacturers in some way rather than input each one individually, and the whole menu be built dynamically.
So, what is the best "Zen like " way to do this?
Many thanks!

Hi!
Sorry, I don't have a simple answer for this, and don't have a simple solution. If I were planning to design this, I'd perhaps start by looking at includes/classes/categories_ul_generator.php and includes/modules/sideboxes/maufacturers.php. However, I don't have the time to develop this mod, and I feel it would probably be fairly complicated. So for now, manual is the way to go....
-
Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Hi Jade, thanks for your quick response.
Your answer is not what I wanted, but was what I expected if you see what I mean!
I have already spent some time experimenting with the categories_ul_generator.php file, so will continue to do this now I know that I am working in the right area.
In the short term I will probably hard code the links - I think it will be worth the effort as I believe there could be some SEO advantages if used correctly ;)
Thanks again.

I would create a new file, perhaps called manufacturers_ul_generator.php and wouldn't try to get the manufacturers to mix in with the categories code. GOOD LUCK!

Hi There!
Are you using my CSS header from the downloads section? Because it is designed to dynamically show EZPages after they are added in the admin.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Hi Jettrue
Yes, i used your CSS header from the download section, I already did figure it out this part but I had problem if I like to add another EZPage at HOME menu since this EZPage only shows in one place under INFORMATION, please show me how to do it.

Just add the link to includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_drop_menu.php.
Find the link you want it to be below, and just paste the code for the link there.
If you look through this thread, I've posted how to do something like this a few times. Here's one of them:

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
I've just gone through this lengthy thread and am surprised no one has mentioned the way the menu scrolls downwards but without the background color so the scrolled menu item is hard to see.
I've seen this in all the examples posted, including Jade's.
If you make the browser window smaller, or increase the font size, the menu will scroll in an (I think) undesirable way.
I would prefer to have the individual menu items scroll, so that "Check Out" (for example) would be on two lines, while maintaining the relative overall width of the menu.
I've checked the css file and fiddled with a few things but I can't see what's controlling the height of the menu and why it won't allow scrolling.
Even if it scrolled, but with the same background colour, that would be a bit better.
BTW - very nice menu otherwise :smile:

I cannot see this issue. I've tried to replicate what you're experiencing in Firefox and IE7, and do not see any issue. Though I'm not really understanding exactly what you are talking about.
What browser are you seeing this issue, and can I see your website? What do you mean by saying they "scroll"?

Maybe "scroll" is the wrong word - wrap? It happens with IE and Firefox.
I made a mistake about your site, Jade (http://www.zencart137.jadetrue.com/). This menu does not have this problem - seems to be a static length.
Here's a screen shot of my site with a reduced sized browser window. Since the menu text is white, when the menu wraps below, the background color is very light, making it hard to see the menu entry "Gifts":

Its not a static length, I have just left enough extra space on the menu. You have too many things on that row. Either you need to reduce the amount of items on the row, decrease the menu's default font size, or decrease the spacing between each item so that the wrap doesn't occur. You would adjust includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet_header_menu.css.

Make sure you create an override for the tpl_header.php file in your custom directory.
Here is how I have placed it in my tpl_header.php file:
Code:
<div id="headerWrapper">
<!--bof-navigation display-->
<div id="navMainWrapper">
<!--bof-drop down menu display-->
<?php require($template->get_template_dir('tpl_drop_menu.php',DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'common'). '/tpl_drop_menu.php');?>
<!--eof-drop down menu display-->
<!--eof-navigation display-->

Okay I tried this and it comes up looking funky. Any suggestions? www.mommyandbabyessentials.com Thanks

I was just looking at the source of your site, and you've got a couple of background images that are 2000px wide, so that's what's preventing your menu from wrapping.
I suppose I could something similar on my site, but my preference is to have the individual menu items wrap, so that the whole menu bar would become thicker (higher - bigger from top to bottom...)
It doesn't really matter how many items are on the menu, because at some point if the user reduces the size of the browser window far enough, or increases the size of the font (something I do all the time, which is why this is a problem for me) the menu bar will run out of space and wrap.
BTW - have you looked at your site in Firefox? There isn't any bottom scroll bar when you reduce the size of the browser window or increase the font size. The scroll bar appears correctly in IE.

Because I designed the site to increase in size when someone increases their font, that is why I have the really wide images (so they increase without distorting). As far as my menu not wrapping, I think its because of the width of my center section that is preventing it, not the 2000px wide images (else the scroll bar would start much earlier?) I think that perhaps your menu is just a *smidge* too long, and the right padding of the last menu item is what is forcing the wrap when the site is resized. Just try for grins removing the last item on your menu to see if the issue goes away.
You may also be able to decrease the spacing on the last menu item by giving it a special class like class="lessSpace" and give it a padding-right:0; value in the stylesheet_header_menu.css. I should probably put that in effect on the next update of the template... but anyway, I'd still like to see your site, and see if I can help more effectively. :cool:
I have looked at my site in Firefox, and the scroll bars work fine; they weren't working because of some code I was testing out, but that is removed now. The code in question is not in the download file, it was just on my test site.
I'm sorry to say that I won't spend a significant amount of time finding out how to make the menu wrap the way you're looking for, as I think having the drop down menu on two lines may impede its functionality (and I don't know if I can make it work), however if you figure it out and it works well, feel free to share it here.

I'm having a problem with my drop down header. I would like the categories to be in the second spot next to home. But if I move it anywhere besides the ends, either the categories pop out of it on to a bar below. OR the other "tabs" combine into the categories one. Any ideas?? :dontgetit

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Hi there. I hope this is a simple to solve. I do not want the my products to be displayed after hovering over a category. I only want the categories to be displayed. Another way to say it is that I want to turn off the display for everything that would be considered level 3 and higher. Is this possible? Thanks.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
I'm having a problem with the ezpage part of the flyout menu. The menu works fine in Firefox, but it breaks in IE7.
If the ezpage drop menu sidebox is turned off, I have no problems. Turn it on and all the menu items disappear save for the HOME button.

There must be a problem with your includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_drop_menu.php
The default way I have the drop down has the categories directly after the HOME drop down. Can you try re-uploading the original file?

Few things to check:
Do you have LEFT/RIGHT status set to OFF, SINGLE COLUMN status set to ON?
Does your information section in includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_drop_menu.php look like this:

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean about the error being in the ezpages original code? There's no extra div in the files I've uploaded.
Try looking for a stray div in includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_drop_menu.php or includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/sideboxes/tpl_ezpages_drop_menu.php

That's just it, I did not alter the code at all, I simply put the files where instructed. The files in:

Been waiting for an opportune moment to raise my question, but about to "shut down" for the night so will ask it now.
If you take a look here http://www.appliancesfirst.co.uk you will see my problem. There is a "box" to the right hand side of the menu which not required. How do I get rid of this?
I thought this question had been answered already in this thread, but have been backwards and forwards all day trying to find it so I appologise if I missed it somewhere.
regards

are exactly the same files in your module zip file.
Somewhere along the line it was added somewhere. When I look at the source of your page there's a <div> before Discount Coupons and a </div> after reviews.
Check also in the "Tools", "EZpages" and make sure that its not there with the internal links?

Its not a box, its the left-over chunk of the menu. You can change the width of the menu in the stylesheet_header_menu.css. I think about 55em would be close. Then you can open up includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_drop_menu.php and change the shopping cart line to this:
<li><a class="noLine" href="<?php echo zen_href_link(FILENAME_SHOPPING_CART, '', 'NONSSL'); ?>"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_CART_CONTENTS; ?></a></li>
Then you could add this to the same stylesheet:
div#dropMenu li a.noLine {padding-right:0;border:none;}

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
Hi Jade, many thanks for helping me out.
That's just about cracked it, apart from a small line to the right of the "Shopping Basket" when you hover over it, this looks a little strange when there is something in the basket as the white border shows too, making it look detatched. I'm sure that with a little more playing i can solve this bit. To be honest, most people wouldn't notice it [or care] but when your focus is on a small area of the website everything seems like a problem!
Thanks again and enjoy the rest of the.....Oh, its Monday already! :D

Don't worry about the box too much - I think you should concentrate on your "sale" prices...

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
I'm hacing a problem with the menus in earlier IEs. The dropdown menu displays behind the category filter menu. I've enclosed a pic, and you can view a test site here.

Re: CSS Dropdown menu for your header- With Categories!
I'm having an issue in IE7 only (firefox, opera work fine) where the drop down menu along with my category sidebox are laying over top of my header image. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if I'm seeing what you're seeing, but in includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet_header_menu.css, try moving:
background:#4484B2;
from div#dropMenu ul.level1
to div#dropMenu li
