I do however wish to add that your efforts to support, update and streamline this mod are acknowledged and applauded. As there are still a significant number of "sheep" out there, if they are going to consume this stuff, it's nice to know someone cares about their welfare.

 It is sad in this day and age people still want to believe in "silver bullets". The phrase "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink" comes to mind.

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200 (new features) [Support Thread]
On another note:
This thread's purpose is to support "Ultimate SEO URLs". It provides a place for people new to the module as well as experienced users of the module to interact and help each other install, upgrade, and use this module. It also provides a place for people to report any potential bugs they may have found (as well as fixes).
I would ask everyone who reads (or posts) to this thread keep the above stated purpose of this thread in mind. Kindly keep the posts in this thread relevant to the above stated purpose. I encourage people to discuss other topics, but please discuss them in a different thread in a relevant section of the forums.
For those asking for help: keep in mind the people on the Zen Cart forums are not here 24x7 and for the most part give freely of their personal time to help. It may take a couple days for someone to read your message. So be patient when asking for help. I would also re-iterate reading the "Posting Tips" (scroll up when posting / replying) is a good idea. Answering the questions found in the "Posting Tips" will help save time and helps give those reading your post a better picture of what might be causing the problem you are experiencing.
Thank You

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
1146 Table 'coolcase_coolcases.TABLE_ADMIN_PAGES' doesn't exist
in:
[SELECT `page_key` FROM `TABLE_ADMIN_PAGES` WHERE `page_key` = 'configUltimateSEO']
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.
What's the fix? I saw it on another thread...
http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.p...grade-SEO-URLS
But you posted into PM.... people post in forums man...
Anyone can help with this fix? My stores dead.. I am bringing 1.3.8a to 1.3.9h.. the easy way
Almost done...... then BOOM!
Please help

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
Is this bug a DEFINE issue... can I DEFINE this in a global config somewhere? Recreate the table.. I will research your code now.. see if I can finda patch and feedback here... still anythjing would help

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
Speaking of silver bullets, I don't think that even great content can be counted on for that. So perhaps there truly are no silver bullets.
Okay, just saw the post to keep things strictly relevant to Ultimate SEO Support.
-
Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
Ok, one step closer
I think issue is you guys are using a zencart 1.5 table referenced in 1.3.9h.. whatever, no problem.. I will download zc 1.5, extract the structure, install with my dbprefix.. then define this in:
seo.php
Will let you know.. no biggie here.. I think am unblocked, but testing still
-
Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200 (new features) [Support Thread]
I extracted the table structure:
CREATE TABLE coolcases_admin_pages (
page_key VARCHAR(32) NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
language_key VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
main_page varchar(64) NOT NULL default '',
page_params varchar(64) NOT NULL default '',
menu_key varchar(32) NOT NULL default '',
display_on_menu char(1) NOT NULL default 'N',
sort_order int(11) NOT NULL default 0,
UNIQUE KEY page_key (page_key)
) ENGINE=MyISAM;
Then defined in:
admin/includes/init_includes/init_seo_config.php
Whitescreen of death now
-
Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200 (new features) [Support Thread]
Looks to me that there is something wrong here... maybe additional missing tables and definitions... Im going to nuke the database... retry............ any ideas?? can you send me the fix??
-
Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200 (new features) [Support Thread]
In thread you say:
There is indeed a bug for 1.3.9h users upgrading the module from a version less than 2.210.
Next thing I'll try is old version? I mean I was using an old version successfully... I just need a working system.. I'm doing this upgrade to get some other module support... tight schedule here
-
Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200 (new features) [Support Thread]
Next test: install -
Ultimate SEO URLs - Version: 2.110 - for ZC v1.3.9

The error message you're getting is caused by your plugin trying to do stuff with v1.5.x tables when they don't exist.
So, if you're really upgrading only to v1.3.9h, then I'm guessing you grabbed a newer version of your plugin when you should have grabbed an older one.
-
Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
Am sure it`s a known issue per:
http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.p...LE_ADMIN_PAGES
It is OK anyway... I am holding on to 1.3.9 series because I have custom codes for the store. So I can get by with the older one.. no worries.. testing now.. haven`t tested yet
-
Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
Ok guys, I upgraded 1.3.8a using an older version to 1.3.9h successfully with Version: 2.110 - for ZC v1.3.9
I recommend that.. am sure you'll have a stable version soon.. but for the guys like me who on a short timeline to get this upgraded.. this is a solid way

Correct. To clarify for anyone else reading this thread the only people affected are those running Zen Cart 1.3.9h and UPGRADING from Ultimate SEO < 2.210 to the latest version.
This temporary workaround for those affected is to UNINSTALL the old version and INSTALL the latest version.
I am still looking for anyone who is still running Zen Cart 1.3.9h and is willing to BETA test a patched version. If you are willing, send me a PM and I will send you the BETA. Until I know 100% the 1.3.9h patches work correctly (in more than my test environments) I do not want to release the current BETA code.

I see a missing "/" in between "/public_html/admin" and "includes". This usually indicates a Zen Cart configuration issue. Take a look in "admin/includes/configure.php" and verify DIR_FS_ADMIN and DIR_FS_CATALOG both end with a "/".

No problem and thank you for reporting back that the issue was with your Zen Cart configuration.
I see issues with the Zen Cart configuration quite often, especially if Zen Cart is upgraded from 1.3 to 1.5. Many people just keep using the old configure.php files instead of generating new ones... and there are subtle differences between the versions (including 1.5 not requiring the admin configure.php edited when changing the admin folder name).
-
Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200 (new features) [Support Thread]
I also have just had the same problem that ndickerson and others have had.
1146 Table 'database_name.TABLE_ADMIN_PAGES' doesn't exist etc etc
I have deleted the file config.seo.install.php and the store is working again.
But what should i do to get this mod to work?
This is on a fresh 1.39h with no other mods.
Its not an upgrade.
I used the 1.39h folder only, not the 1.5 folders.
I downloaded the latest release.
Also I see some french text in the admin for the mod, is that meant to be there?
Activar las direcciones SEO?
Filtrar palabras cortas
Categories as directories
Restablecer la caché para las direcciones SEO
Enable manufacturers cache?
Introduzca las páginas para permitir la reescritura

Remove the version you have installed (files, merges, and database entries) and download the latest from the forums here. Or become a part of the BETA test for the next release of USU (includes a new installation / upgrade script for USU on Zen Cart 1.3.9h).

Questions:
- Where did you download your copy of USU from? The current version downloaded from the plugins section on zen-cart.com only includes ENGLISH language files.
- Are you 100% sure no files or database entries from an older version of USU, SSU, or similar were present? The french you posted could be coming from an OLD INSTALL of USU. Also I can state as a fact: With a clean install of USU (not an upgrade) NO SQL calls are made to TABLE_ADMIN_PAGES unless certain Zen Cart 1.5 only functions related to TABLE_ADMIN_PAGES are present.
- As noted earlier, the upgrade code does make a single call to TABLE_ADMIN_PAGES under Zen Cart 1.3.9h (which has been fixed in upstream BETA releases). The upgrade code is only triggered when either the "seo_cache" table exists in the database or the USU_VERSION configuration entry exists in the database.
- I will NOT release BETA code publicly here on the forums and one of the conditions placed upon BETA testers is no distribution or disclosure related to BETA versions. An updated version is currently in BETA testing and the test is open to anyone willing to adhere to the conditions and send me a PM to such effect.

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200 (new features) [Support Thread]
Quick reply, I downloaded it from the link at the top of the official download page.
Its definitely a fresh 1.39h, although the database is from an old site. That db could be the cause of some problems, I didnt build the old site so Im not sure what was in there, I will investigate and get back.
-
Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200 (new features) [Support Thread]
Ok, the old site did have this mod installed, I never realised.
It was a 1.39h site also.
Looking at the admin area for the mod the entire thing is in spanish... the rest of admin is english.
So what would you suggest I do here, should I find out what version of the mod was installed and download that version and overwrite all the files Ive uploaded? How do I find the mod version?
Thanks for your support.

Finding the module version is not easy in the older versions... Usually they did include the version number at the top of the file "/includes/classes/seo.url.php". I'd guess version 2.106 - 2.110 based upon the language being Spanish.
As you have a partial upgrade, If you want the functionality of USU, the best way to fix things would be to remove the current version, then remove any leftovers from the old version, and finally install the latest version.
Disclaimer: This method of uninstalling should not be used on versions of USU > 2.150. This is only specific to instances where versions of USU < 2.150 are still installed, you attempt to install the newer version without first removing the old version, and things go wrong.
- Backup your website and database. Always a good idea before making changes.
- Follow the uninstall instructions for the current version (in the readme).
- Remove all files from the current and previous versions. You can see what files were added by looking at the zip files from the current version and version 2.110.
- Undo any merges made to files in "affected_files" folders (current version of USU) and "specific-files" folders (old version of USU).
- Remove any leftover database entries from the old version of USU.
You can remove the old database entries using phpmyadmin with:
Code:
DELETE FROM `configuration_group` WHERE `configuration_group_title` LIKE '%SEO%';
DELETE FROM `configuration` WHERE `configuration_key` LIKE '%SEO%';
DROP TABLE IF EXISTS seo_cache;"
Note: if your tables have a prefix you need to add the prefix. Also note this will uninstall some of SSU's entries from the database (not an issue if you plan to install the latest version of USU afterwards).
Once done, you should be able to install the latest version. Once you have everything working, I would strongly suggest another backup of the files and database. Always good to have "known good" backups!
As per the readme: If you are running a version of this plugin prior to version 2.150 it is recommended you uninstall the old version of the plugin including all database entries prior to installing newer versions.

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200 (new features) [Support Thread]
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer.
Ok so my database has things in it from an old version then?
Because all the zencart files are fresh 1.39h with no mods.
But the database was copied from an old site.

You will not lose any incoming traffic unless you change the product / category / ez-page IDs in the database. Ultimate SEO URLs will still accept URLs coming in with the old format and show the correct page based upon the ID. So as long as the IDs stay the same during your upgrade things should work.
Additionally, Zen Cart 1.5 (and the newer Ultimate SEO URLs) automatically handles adding what is known as a canonical link to the HTML head of your pages. This lets Search Engines know two pages are the same (does not treat them as duplicate content). You can read more about this
here.
You can also set "Enable automatic redirects?" to true. This will handle automatically issuing a 301 redirect to let Search Engines know the new URL (and update the index link quickly). I'd recommend enabling this option if you change the URL format or sometimes change a product, category, or ez-page title. This will quickly let Search Engines and browsers know the URL has changed. I'd probably just keep the old URL scheme on a well established site rather than take the 1-2% link juice drop caused by a 301 redirect, but still enable this option if you ever update product, category, or ez-page titles.
Thanks very much lhungil!

A 403 Forbidden is your web server telling you you tried to access something you do not have permission to access... Typical causes include: request to access a protected resource, server misconfiguration of access lists, or specifying the wrong RewriteBase in your .htaccess.

thanks for the reply. actually i followed advise renamed to "RewriteBase/" in the .htaccess file which caused the problem. is this wrong?

If your Zen Cart store is "http://somedomain.com/" then you can either set "RewriteBase /" (note the space) or comment out the RewriteBase line (as it is not needed).
If your Zen Cart store is "http://somedomain.com/zencart" then you would set "RewriteBase /zencart/" (note the trailing / for a directory).
If you are doing something out of the ordinary, you will need to adjust the mod_rewrite directives accordingly. The above assumes a standard web hosting configuration where the relative path for physical files is the same as the relative path in the URL (and HTTP / HTTPS are served from the same location and relative web path). 95% of modern web hosting configurations are done this way (when you have a SSL certificate for your domain).

What is the reason you want to install this mod?
Please be aware that it has NO INFLUENCE ON, or ADVANTAGE TO any "SEO" you may be hoping for.
If you want to re-write URL's then be aware of the risks involved.
There is no advantage at all to re-written URL's - but a load of potential problems.
Naturally the choice is yours. In over 10 years of working with eCommerce, our team has NEVER used url re-write, and our clients' sites all do exceptionally well on search engine indexing and results pages.

You mean the risk of installing this module incorrectly and the site not working?? You mean the site owner not quite understanding how to rectify the install issue because he's not familiar with how the code in the .htaccess files works?? Hmmmmm..
Well..
The same can be said of ANY module.. Folks muck up module installs and (as a result), their sites ALL THE TIME.. They ask for help with these issues on this forum DAILY.. Otherwise ALL the other support threads would be really quiet..

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
These "SEO URL" modules do, however, garner the most enquiries and views. Collectively, the views and posts on "SEO URL" exceed three quarters of a million - indicating that there are a lot of people having issues / problems. Other modules also present issues - I agree - but for the most part they are modules with a useful function. These modules have no useful function - and are amongst the more "fragile" add-ons, and which are most certainly "challenging" to install and to understand. Novices should avoid them for these two reasons. 1. They do nothing to improve the site. 2. They are easy to install badly and incorrectly - and when that happens a lot of other things fall over. I will continue to advise newbies NOT to install these modules - er... its my First Amendment Right, not so? :D :P

So basically you are stating you see no useful function to human readable URLs or adding keywords to a URI. This is your opinion and you are entitled to your opinion. However there are business reasons other than SEO for altering the URIs.
These have been discussed both on and off the Zen Cart forums. But a support thread is not the appropriate place to start arguments about the value of a plugin. Hijacking support threads for various plugins and harassing those looking for help (or providing help) to continually push an opinion and / or agenda is disrespectful and unprofessional.
Quote:

I will again disagree. With the upgrades to support Zen Cart 1.5, efforts have been made to improve the installation and upgrade experience of this plugin. Yes there are places people can make mistakes, but this is true of any Zen Cart module or plugin. Constructive criticism on this process and how to improve this process is welcome.
Some of the many things to improve the installation experience with newer versions
Only a minimal number of changes are made to core files and a fallback to the Zen Cart default behavior is provided in the case this module is disabled. This module includes proposed changes to fix some bugs present in Zen Cart 1.5 (and are included in the Zen Cart 1.6 pre-release code). To help improve QA, new versions of this module also go through a BETA test cycle where experienced community members test the new versions prior to a public release (being posted to the plugins section). This module also includes fairly detailed installation instructions in the README to aid less experienced users (constructive suggestions for improvements are welcome).
The installation script (step 4) includes additional checks: to see if new uploaded files exist, to remove obsolete files from previous versions, to install and upgrade any needed database changes, to fix / upgrade configuration settings, and install configuration pages. If any step or one of these checks done by the installation script fails an error is reported and the module is not enabled.
Newer versions include a simplified ".htaccess" file for Apache web servers. When the hosting environment uses the Apache web server, in most cases only ONE change is needed to this file before uploading the file to a hosting provider - to specify the name of the folder under the document root where Zen Cart is installed. The next version will probably include some examples.
The configuration pages provide not only a short description of what each option does, but in many cases also provide examples of the effects of the settings. Where possible, when a setting is changed an extra check occurs to verify settings do not conflict (and notifies the user if there is an issue). This helps make configuration easier for new users (and existing users).

If you are on a UNIX, BSD, or APPLE computer: you will need to make sure the default folder view option "hide files starting with a dot" is disabled.

Bingo! That was the problem, however it takes a little work to make hidden files visible on an Apple. http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/index_fi...dden-files.php
Moving on.. Do I have to edit the file in any way and where does it need to be placed?

I am just not quite sure how to fully perform the installation. Specifically, how to configure the .htaccess file.

Do nothing to it - just upload it to the root of your store

Have you unzipped the file and read through the installation instructions? It's all very well documented and short of simply repeating verbatim what is already in those instructions, I'm gonna suggest that you simply jump in and try following the installation steps and then ask questions about the things you are unclear about..
Before you begin -- BACKUP YOUR STORE AND DATABASE!!!
Then give it the old college try!

I'm afraid that a discussion on how to backup your store is a subject that's out of scope for this support thread.. I would suggest searching the forum first to see if there is already a discussion that covers how to backup your store.. If you do not find a topic that covers this (and I'd be surprised if there are multiple threadson this topic), then you should start your own separate thread to pose the question.. Once you have your store backed, up follow the installation instructions and have a go at installing this add-on..

I think I'll do this:
Full Backup
A full backup includes all of the files in your home directory, your MySQL databases, and your email forwarders and filters. You can back up your account to preserve your data, or to move your account to another cPanel server.
Download or Generate a Full Website Backup
Ok, I won't post anymore about backing up. I promise.
Wish me luck on the install.

We really need to move this duscussion to a more appropriate forum.. but I will say this quickly.. you CAN use the backups from that module to restore the site manually.. (it creates zip files which can be unzipped and used to restore the site)
But again.. a full blown discussion about backup options/backup how-tos really should be taken to a seperate thread..

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
Looking for support or documentation on the 301 Auto Redirect feature. I've changed the names of certain products which changed the URLs so I'm loosing them on Google. The old URL now shows a "product not found" message. I tried creating my own 301 redirect but it appears this plugin overrides them and continues to show "product not found".
How does the 301 Auto Redirect feature work?

As you have not specified what version of Zen Cart nor what version of Ultimate SEO URLs you have installed... Based upon your question, I would guess you are running an old version of USU (or USU is not correctly / fully installed). If this is the case you will need to upgrade to the latest version of USU to enable incoming URL redirection when a product name has changed. Old versions only supported redirecting Zen Cart dynamic URLs.

The latest version of USU includes a number of fixes, patches, and new features. This includes many additional safety checks and performance enhancements. In the latest version, automatic 301 redirects are generated when:
- Ultimate SEO URLs is enabled.
- Redirects are enabled.
- The URL corresponds to a page included in the list of pages to rewrite.
- The request was not made by a page in the Zen Cart admin.
- The request does not include any POST data.
- The request URI does not match the generated URI.
- The request QUERY data does not match the generated QUERY data.
-
Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
If you are running the latest version...
When you change the product name - the products_id stays the same. As long as the products_id is the same you will never see a "Product Not Found". The only time you will see a "Product Not Found" is when Zen Cart says the product_id does not exist or you have disabled the product in the Zen Cart admin.
If you have caching enabled in the configuration of USU and used a tool such as "Easy Populate", a direct database edit, or any tool other than the built in "admin" > "catalog" > "category / product" to change the product / category name... this module has no way to know you changed the names. In this case the correct product is still shown, but no redirect will be issued until the cache expires (by default 30 days) or when the cache is manually reset ("admin" > "configuration" > "Ultimate SEO" > Reset SEO URLs Cache).

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
I'm running version 2.207 on Zen Cart v1.51.
Thanks for the info. Turns out I'd forgotten I copied the old page and renamed it. So once I changed it back it's working.
Question though, it seems USU takes over all URL requests? I had previously setup a redirect page to solve the problem and was surprised to find that the static HTML page I setup with a URL matching the original page could not be found.

Glad you were able to get everything sorted! Newer versions of USU contain a number of bug fixes, enhancements, and new features... and should upgrade nicely under Zen Cart 1.5 (but make a backup first) :)
USU only sends specific requests (specified in the .htaccess file) to Zen Cart. In current versions, the last line in the example .htaccess file also instructs Apache to send all requests which do not correspond to a physical file or folder to Zen Cart (I think in versions closer to 2.207 it only sends requests ending in .html - It has been awhile)...
The behavior configured in the latest versions of USU of sending all requests to Zen Cart for files and folders which do not correspond to a physical file or folder is something commonly utilized by many modern web applications. If you want to read more, you can look up the "front controller pattern"... For Zen Cart + USU the pattern is selectively applied because we want real images, js, css, html, php, and other files to still be served directly (allowing "ping back" URIs and retaining performance for static resources).
I typically do not recommend creating static pages to "redirect"... It makes things harder to manage in my experience (especially long term)... Instead you can just add a RewriteRule or Redirect directly in a .htaccess file so all redirects can be found and managed quickly from one location. Unless you add a large number of redirects, in my opinion the ease of management outweighs the slight performance impact. But then again, I tend to avoid creating manual redirects unless absolutely necessary...
Mod Rewrite:
Rules in the .htaccess file are processed in order and processing does not end until either a [L] flag or the end of the .htaccess file is reached. Thus if you place additional rules before the USU ones the additional ones take precedence... If you add them after the USU ones... the USU ones take precedence. It all depends on how YOU modify the rules. You can read more in the Apache mod_rewrite documentation.
But learning how to utilize mod_rewrite is something a bit beyond the scope of this thread. It can be a powerful tool as long as one understands how it works - although a tool I would use sparingly.

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
Hello!
Can somebody tell me how to set up language identifiers in U. SEO, I am using 2.212, and can not find it anywhere. I believe, there was an option to add it in previous versions, does this one have it?
What am trying to accomplish:
example.com/product - default language
example.com/es/product - spanish
Thank you!

Currently no option exists in USU to create URLs as per your example. I am not aware of USU for Zen Cart every having such an option (although I could be wrong). It would be a month or so before I could look into adding such an option... If you can wait awhile, send me a PM here as a reminder :)
I am also currently in need of translations of the options used by this module (and the README). If you have the English language file translated to Spanish for this module (2_new_files/your_admin_folder/includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/seo.php) please paste the changes here (or send them to me in a PM).
If you need this yesterday, here is a short list of the changes needed to implement your request:
- Modify make_url() to add a language identifier to the start of the URL. See the Zen Cart language class and database table. $this->languages_id will contain the corresponding language id for the current request.
- Modify the .htaccess file. You can probably get away with just passing the 2-3 character language code (matching the code field in the Zen Cart language db table) using the variable "language". For example, "RewriteRule ^(?:([^/]{2,3})/)(.*)-p-([0-9]+)(.*)$ index\.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=$3&language=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L]".
- Add a new option to enable or disable this feature. Change the included language file(s) and the installation / removal script.
If you do undertake the changes, please do post the complete list (or send me a zip file) so the changes can be tested and added to a future version.

I am not using it, I just wrote that it has those options implemented and if you ever decide to add them, it already has them, so it would be easier to copy/update from it instead of starting from scratch.

Restructuring the URL to remove the -p- and -c-
Hi All,
Please accept my apologies if this question has already been asked, I tried looking but could not see where it may have been addressed. If it has been address before, can you please kindly direct me to the right post.
I have just upgraded Zen-cart to V151 and installed Ultimate URL with V151. All works well.
Except previously we were running magic SEO and now our url's are slightly different.
The old urls were
melbournesigns.com.au/garden-signs-40/grey-water-used-on-garden-and-lawns-286.html
The new urls are
melbournesigns.com.au/garden-signs-c-40/grey-water-used-on-garden-and-lawns-p-286.html
The difference is the c- and p- for the categories and product codes. See in red below.
melbournesigns.com.au/garden-signs-c-40/grey-water-used-on-garden-and-lawns-p-286.html
Doesn't seem at first to be a big deal except that we have thousands of organic links from Google and when you use the old url, you come to a blank page which would cause visitors to click back and find a different site.
Can anyone help with suggestions on how to fix this?
Or is there a way I can send these links to the home page instead of getting a blank page?
Thank you for your help in advance.
Regards
Alem

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
I'm installing Ultimate SEO URL and got two questions about INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.
"Copy files from "2_new_files" to your Zen Cart install. If upgrading overwrite any existing files." I really don't understand what that means. If I install first time, Am I suppose to ingore "2_new_files"?
"A sample .htaccess file is included. Edit "3_htaccess/.htaccess" to match your web server's environment. Pay particular attention to the "RewriteBase" line. Make sure your server does not have "MultiViews" enabled (rare)." My web server is Just Host. How should I edit .hoaccess file?
I'm a rookie for help. Thanks

Hi Fansime,
Glad to meet a fellow novice.
You need to install all the files, I think the reason they have broken them into different folder is if you already have modified files, that you can cut and paste the code into the old file.
What I did was to copy the files into the right place. Careful to change any folder named "your template" to the actual name of the template you are using, mine was "glasco".
Regarding the htaccess file, this got me as well, open the file and edit the line that says rewrite base. It will say something like "/yourshop/" you need to change this to your stores location. if your store is at xxx.com/ then the "/yourshop/ "to " /"
I tried to figure out the multiview, but could not find it. My urls are now working so I figure it has nothing to do with my site.

Ultimate SEO URLs uses "anchors" (the -c-, -p-, -ez-, etc) to denote the type of page requested (category, product, ez-page, etc). These "anchors" allow a large range of flexibility with the URL formats (and avoids collisions with IDs and names). Using "anchors" also minimizes the amount of resources required to process the request and pass it along to Zen Cart (USU maps the requests directly instead of requiring database lookups).
If one knows the exact formats used by Magic SEO (and know the URLs will not result in any collisions), one can craft some custom RewriteRules in the .htaccess file to handle the old URLs from Magic SEO. One would probably want to place the custom RewriteRules after the majority of the USU rules and immediately preceding the following block of code to avoid causing any conflicts:
Code:
# All other pages
# Don't rewrite real files or directories
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index\.php?main_page=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L]

Zen Cart 1.3.9h
Edit orders 3.0.3
Recovers cart sales v3.1.0
Super orders v3.0.x
Ty tracker v2.3a
Easy Populate v3.03
Experience: Semi Noob in zencart
I am trying to install Ultimate SEO 2.2.1 to my zencart 1.3.9h (plese see above for details) and am confused on the installation instructions in step 3 concerning the ".htaccess" file.
Where is this file found at in my zencart?
There seems to be a "htaccess" file in almost each and every sub-directory in the main zencart directory.
To be exact, which "htaccess" file are we talking about? All of them or just one of them, and in which subfolder?
I have 2 zencart websites installed under /htdocs/
they are: /htdocs/Zencart-01/
and /htdocs/Zencart-02/
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Pay particular attention to the lines in red (copied from README_ENGLISH.txt under INSTALLATION - step 3):
Code:
3. A sample .htaccess file is included. Edit
"3_htaccess/.htaccess" to match your web server's
environment. Pay particular attention to the
"RewriteBase" line. Make sure your server does not have
"MultiViews" enabled (rare).
If you have an existing .htaccess file in the folder
where you installed Zen Cart merge the new .htaccess
file with the existing file (remember rules are matched
in order, so any custom URL transformations or
redirects should appear before the "Start Ultimate
SEO URLs" block).
Upload the .htaccess file to the folder where
you installed Zen Cart.
You should follow these steps in order. So first follow the instructions in the first paragraph. Then follow the instructions in the second paragraph. Lastly follow the instructions in the third paragraph.
I'm not sure what part of these instructions are not clear... Perhaps you can help us by giving a more detailed description of what you are having difficulty with? Any help you provide to help us improve the README is appreciated.
If a language issue (pardon my poor translation skills):
Sube el archivo de .htaccess a la carpeta en la que instaló Zen Cart.
Téléchargez le fichier .htaccess dans le dossier où vous avez installé Zen Cart.
Laden Sie die .htaccess datei in den Ordner, in dem Sie installiert Zen Cart.
上傳的 .htaccess 文件的文件夾中安裝Zen Cart的。
Загрузить .htaccess файл в папке, где установлен Zen Cart.

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
I have Ultimate SEO installed on my zen 1.5.1
I have a product which I will not be selling anymore. I do not want to delete the product, because there are many web sites linking to it.
So I want to setup a a redirect link to the new product which replaced it.
But it seems like something is overriding everything I do
I first created a new folder and file the same as the product I want to remove and then placed the following in the header
Code:
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="0; url=http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/led-bar-c-15/led-super-bar-205-10800lumens-single-row-p-516.htm">
I uploaded that to the same address as where the product used to be (I disabled it for now)
http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/led-...watt-p-367.htm
That did not work
Then I created a 301 redirect in the /shop htaccess file where the SEO script also is, I placed it under "# All other pages"
Code:
Redirect 301 /led-bar-c-15/led-super-bar-202-8640-lumens-96-watt-p-367.htm
http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/led-bar-c-15/
I also tried
Code:
rewritecond %{http_host} ^/led-bar-c-15/led-super-bar-202-8640-lumens-96-watt-p-367.htm [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/led-bar-c-15/$1 [r=301,nc]
None of above works. The site just redirect me to a page with message "Sorry, the product was not found."
What is the correct way of doing this?

Please read one of the many previous posts I have written on the common complaint of "USU takes over all URL requests" and adding redirects. USU does not take over all requests or override anything. You simply have to know how to properly use Apache mod_rewrite.

This is not something I would recommend. When customers who have purchased the old product look open their online invoice or order history and click the link they will be shown the wrong product.
Alternative to Redirects
I would suggest an alternative... The alternative allows you to keep your link, customers who have purchased can see the information, new customers and search engines get a link to the new product, and people cannot purchase the old product. It also lets customers searching for the old product know there is a newer version of the product available (or some such verbiage) which may be information your competitors do not provide and may thus provide additional value to your store. Of course this is just a suggestion... Not something you have to do.
Edit the old product doing the following:
- In the description add a note in big bold letters stating "This product has been discontinued".
- In the description add some text (with links in the appropriate places) such as "The new version of this product is XYZ. Learn more about the XYZ today!" or "XYZ is the replacement version of this product. Click here to find out more!".
- Set the product quantity to 0.
And you can set the following store settings for stock ("admin" -> "configuration" -> "stock"):
- Allow Checkout: false
- Show Sold Out Image in place of Add to Cart: true
Optionally modify the sold out image to match your theme if not already done.
With Redirects
In your case you will need at least two additional RewriteRules. You can either specify the full URL w/ the flags [R=301,QSA,L]... Or you can simply rewrite the product numbers (safer for a couple reasons). Note I have highlighted place to put direct 301 redirects in BLUE (not recommended), the places to rewrite the product numbers in RED (recommended), and the relevant place where you need to change product numbers in GREEN.
Code:
...
RewriteEngine on
...
# Place any custom 301 redirects here. Placing them early will force them to take precedence over later rules.
# As RewriteEngine is already turned on we might as well use RewriteRule <match> <location> [R=301,QSA,L]
# Keep in mind redirects should not be used for any page which can be sent POST data.
...
# Redirect if request was for index.php (no query - avoids duplicate page)
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^$
RewriteRule ^index.php$ / [R=301,L]
...
###############################################################################
# Start Ultimate SEO URLs
###############################################################################
# Redirect requests for product 367 to product 516 (assuming same category)
RewriteRule ^(.*)-c-([0-9_]+)/(.*)-p-367(.*)$ index\.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=516&cPath=$2&%{QUERY_STRING} [L]
# Handles the new URL formats
RewriteRule ^(.*)-c-([0-9_]+)/(.*)-p-([0-9]+)(.*)$ index\.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=$4&cPath=$2&%{QUERY_STRING} [L]

You may also want to configure USU to "enable automatic redirects" to handle when a product name or category name is changed.

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
Thanx a million for this. Up to now I have add a line in the description that the product has been discontinued, but then I have so many products which shows "out of stock" that it (in my opinion) creates a bad perception of the business. The first thing people see is "out of stock" some do not bother to read further and see that it has been discontinued. But I agree, that is a save way to leave the data on there should an existing client want to go and look back on his previous purchase.

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
ZC 1.5.1
Edit Orders 4.1
Ty Package tracker 3.1.3
Super Orders 4.0.2
Recover Cart Sales v1.5
Can anyone help me with Step 3 of the installation instructions?
it says:
3. A sample .htaccess file is included. Edit
"3_htaccess/.htaccess" to match your web server's
environment. Pay particular attention to the
"RewriteBase" line. Make sure your server does not have
"MultiViews" enabled (rare).
If you have an existing .htaccess file in the folder
where you installed Zen Cart merge the new .htaccess
file with the existing file (remember rules are matched
in order, so any custom URL transformations or
redirects should appear before the "Start Ultimate
SEO URLs" block. Upload the .htaccess file to the
folder where you installed Zen Cart.
Question 1. Are the 2 steps the same? If they are 2 steps.
Question 2. In which folder can we find the "existing .htaccess file"? Where do I look this file in? Are we talking about the one in the "/myzencart/includes" folder?
Any Help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
thank you. that answers my question concerning which .htaccess file.
I am now in process to create a new zc1.5.1 for this.
Sorry for posting this again further down. I forgot I asked the question before only with a version for zc1.3.9h

If you installed USU in "/htdocs/Zencart-01/", then the ".htaccess" should be uploaded to "/htdocs/Zencart-01/.htaccess".
If you installed USU in "/htdocs/Zencart-02/", then the ".htaccess" should be uploaded to "/htdocs/Zencart-02/.htaccess".
If I am understanding this correctly: if there are no .htaccess file in the ""/htdocs/Zencart-01/.htaccess".
" directory, then I do not have to merge anyting and just upload the edited sample file into this directory?

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
I follow steep 1, 2 , 3, 4, and 5 in installation instructions and get a green "success ultimate SEO installation completed!" message.
Most to all links in my zc1.5.1 appears to have correctly rewritten urls in the html formats.
Except for the only product category that I have with one dummy product in it. When clicked, it diplays:
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [no address given] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. <-- this means exactly what it says (The WEB SERVER encountered an INTERNAL ERROR).
The answer is the same as has been posted in other plugins and threads. First look for any Zen Cart "debug" files. Then look through your hosting providers server error logs / php error logs. If you do not have access, then contact your hosting provider and ask them for access to these.
As this is occurring with only one specific category, the problem is most likely NOT with USU. As has been pointed out in the past, a link to your site (and the specific problem page) would be useful.

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
Thank you. I will look into the error logs first and contact the host for access if needed. Then report again.

Thank you for the pointers. I do not exactly know how to convey myself is because I am not programming litereate at all and am not familiar with programming and diagnostic lingos. I am small internet shop owner learning as I go. I do thank you all for putting up with me and providing all the help that you all do to me. It is totally true what you all said about describing an error or issue. The thing is most of the times I do not know where to look or what to think when an issue comes up after installation. In other words clueless. From now on I will keep in mind all the pointers all of you have given me. Some of you are very helpful during the past week between several forums that I have been hopping between. I want to especially want to thank "lhungil" and "Diva Vocals" for all the pointers and directions given. Otherwise I would have been even more lost than I could have been.

The Problems is solved. Since you said that the problem is NOT wit USU, I solved the problem by reinstalling SEO from scratch from my previous backup before SEO install. (There were no servers logs and there was no log generated within the zencart logs. Contacting my host to give an answer take days if not weeks for them to answer if is is a good answer at all. ) There is still no clue why it didn't worked before. Might have been an upload issue or something else. But problem is solved for the issue. Thanks you.

I see people say that all the time.. My theory is that the reason most people skip this is because they think they are supposed to understand the error log contents.. What we are suggesting for you to post doesn't require ONE BIT of programming knowledge.. Just because YOU don't understand the contents of the error log doesn't mean you EXCLUDE it when reporting an issue.. Report it.. someone here will understand.. which is why it's usually asked for.. Just assume we'll ask and post it.. don't worry about YOU not understanding it..
one that same topic some of these error logs are not as "hard" to understand as folks think they are nor do they always require "programming knowledge" to interpret.. but you will figure that out over time..

Maybe this is just me, but I tend to dislike hosting providers who do not allow me to review the Apache error logs. Without these when you encounter a "server error" (5xx, 403/406 from mod_security, etc) there is no good way to determine the error except by contacting the host (or making guesses).
Eeeek! Anywhere from days to weeks to hear back from your hosting provider when there is an issue? If I was in your shoes, I would think about moving to a different hosting provider in the future...

That's what I am thinking. Or setting up our own webserver with Linux. The only thing holding us back is lack or knowledge and security concerns.

Then don't take this on.. It's not something you could (or should) try to learn overnight.. Find a reasonable and reputable host..

Re: Ultimate SEO 2.200+ (new features)
Hi, I would really love to see manufacturers name in the url when filtering category by manufacturer, for expample instead of http://www.example.com/boots-c-79.html?filter_id=5 (where manufacturers_id 5 is adidas) this url: http://www.example.com/boots-adidas-...ml?filter_id=5
My questions: is it good seo-wise? And what modifications of USU are needed? Or at least what part of USU code should I look at?
