Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hello Diva and all....
Remember my issue with the large images? I think I found something maybe related to this.
I just read that some features were taken off of the module that I actually use (and many of my customers set up the images the same way). On the ReadMe files says:
Quote:
(Rev 8) No more image hotzones - The hotzone feature added no real value to Image Handler2, and it has been removed. The configuration settings for hotzones have also been removed from Admin > Configuration > Images. In case anyone is wondering, the image hover feature works just fine WITHOUT hotzones.
It did have real value. See instead of having an annoying popup hover while you browse the shop, the visitor will have control of which images s/he wants to see bigger before going to the product info page. I thought (and I still think) that this was a very nice setting to have more control about the hovering bigger picture.
Quote:
(Rev 8) The IH zoom medium images configuration setting has also been removed from Admin > Configuration > Images. This feature (zoom on medium images) was a future enhancement that was NEVER IMPLEMENTED in any Image Handler2 release. Continuing to leave this configuration setting in place for non-existent functionality has been a long source of confusion in the Image Handler2 support thread, and therefore it will be removed.
It was implemented and it was working. That's why I'm not getting the new images uploaded by FTP maybe to the right size? In my "old" site with the "old" IH2 those LRG and MED and .thumb images are created. Don't ask me how because I don't know much about coding, but I know that it works and create those additional images and they are "constrained" somehow to the size set on admin.
I also discovered today that if you upload the additional images by FTP besides not being optimized to the large size set, it won't show the watermark if you are using that feature. On the old IH2 you needed to upload a different size image on each folder of root, medium, and large to proper display of it if you want those images to show up the watermark.
So those 2 options were perfectly working, practical and usable (at least for the dozen of IH2 installations I made, and some sites still using it, including mine), and now they are not there anymore. :(

Image hover was not removed.. It's still very much a part of IH2 and it works just fine..
What was removed was image hotzones.. Hotzones was removed because frankly it wasn't working correctly or even consistently, ckosloff and Mano took a crack at trying to get it to work properly. However, ultimately it was felt that this feature was not worth the effort to fix.. (They put a fair amount of time into this effort) **shrug** Anyone is welcome to take a second look at this and provide some insight as to why it didn't work correctly..
From Tim's original documentation. The sections in red is the feature that was removed.
Quote:
Zooming (fancy hover effect)
When selecting this feature for small images, the medium image pops up whenever you move your mouse cursor over the small image.
Those images are branded with an overlay just like a watermark to indicate the pop up ability. You can upload a file to images/zoom.png to have it overlay your image. A small http://breakmyzencart.com/_media/zoo...h=&cache=cache image is included for quick start. If you don’t want the overlay to show but still want the effect, just delete the overlay image
You can select the gravity just like you can with the watermark to configure where the overlay should go. In addition to that you can specify if you want the overlay to act as a hotzone. That means the popup only shows if you move your mouse exactly above the overlay image (hotzone). If it does not, the whole image is the hotzone.

Medium image hover really was not implemented.. If you look at Tim's documentation he confirms this, and I saw no evidence in the time since Tim stopped actively participating in IH2 development that it was EVER added to the core code. The setting for it did nothing either which is why it was also removed to eliminate question and confusion regarding a non existing feature.
From Tim's original documentation:
Quote:
Note: Zooming in on medium images is not implemented, yet.
That said, there is a post somewhere in the dark recesses of this support thread which outlines how to implement medium image hover.. However this modification DOES NOT WORK with most lightbox contributions.. We do include a link to this post in the IH2 readme for anyone who wants to add this functionality with all the caveats that it is not recommended or supported because of the lightbox conflicts.. Again.. If someone wants to take a crack at getting this feature to WORK and work with lightbox contributions, that would be awesome.. **shrug**

Watermarks was not disabled or modified at all and they work perfectly fine as long as you have the watermarks in the correct locations, in the correct format, and named the correct file name
Again from Tim's original documentation:
Quote:
In order for watermarking to work for every image dimension the specific corresponding
watermark images have to be present. That means, you have to upload files to the following specific locations:
- images/watermark.png
- images/medium/watermark_MED.png (or your specified MEDIUM_IMAGE_SUFFIX)
- images/large/watermark_LRG.png (or your specified LARGE_IMAGE_SUFFIX)
I included some demo watermark images for small, medium and large sized images featuring a slightly modified Zen-Cart logo for a quick start. Nothing more to do, switch on, switch off, just as you like. Image Handler takes care of generating images accordingly. You can specify where you want the watermark to appear on the image canvas by selecting NorthWest, North, NorthEast, West, Center, East, SoutWest, South and SouthEast for the
Wartermark Gravity setting.

Upgrading from an older version of IH2 to the latest versions was a simple matter uninstalling from the admin, FTP over the new files (merging changes to core files as needed -- mostly for lightbox integration), and install from the admin.. All I can say for all those MANY SITES having issues is they should ask for help here..The folks who've vigilantly been helping with troubleshooting images have done a good job of walking folks through issues that may arise from a errant installation.. There are PLENTY of examples of folks who are using this add-on quite successfully..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
@ideasgirl:
I have gone thru the various updates to this mod and am using the rev8d with it working perfectly.
I seldom use the IH2 control panel to upload the images I have mine in each vendors image folder with each product having a home of its own housing the images.
I always upload with FTP and have no problem getting any of them to show unless I have accidently uploaded gif's with the jpgs or not numbered them correctly--fact is I totally could never get the images to show additional ones with or without zen lightbox when they had to have the _LRG or _MED extensions.
Now they all show, but the one uploading the IH2 fiels really has to take special care to upload each file to the corresponding server folder, where some have been known to upload the entire mods folder to the same name folder and that will make the mod inoperable...I myself did it in the beginning or even overwrote the main folder too so I know it has been done by quite a few.
If yours still is not working then there must be some other reason other than the items you said are needed...they are not that necessary.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
aaargh you all beat me to it,
ideas girl
heres a demo page using the Ih2 rev 8
The initial image was uploaded when the product was added, the additional images were ftp'd up later
my large image settings are
IH watermark large images yes
IH large image compression quality 85
IH large image maximum width 750
IH large image maximum height 550
All 3 images have been watermarked by ImageHandler, and one of the additional images that was larger than my maximums was resized to fit within them
this is the raw image I uploaded that was bigger than the maximums
http://grumpykiwi.com/haeana/images/image8_01.jpg
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
yup, i upload all of them by ftp---main and additional ones and trust me they are all larger than what I have set for the max width which in my case I think is 900

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Ok, ok... don't attack me, I was not critizising the module, neither your efforts, we all appreciate the time put into supporting the modules you guys/galls create, edit, and update; but saying my side of view...
First:
Quote:
No more image hotzones - The hotzone feature added no real value to Image Handler2, and it has been removed.
I said: It did have real value. See... instead of having an annoying popup hover while you browse the shop, the visitor will have control of which images s/he wants to see bigger before going to the product info page. I thought (and I still think) that this was a very nice setting to have more control about the hovering bigger picture.
I never said that it was said that the hover didn't work. Look at my post and check that I was talking about the "HOTZONES". They worked perfectly for me and my customers. Here's an example of them working perfectly: couturebagz.com
Yes, it did have some bugs but they were "workable".
Quote:
Medium image hover really was not implemented..
Sorry, my bad. I wasn't talking about the medium hover but the optimization into those sizes that I'm mentioning. But, since you mention that... That didn't bother me because it doesn't really make sense that if I'm on the product page and want to see a bigger image hover over it instead of just clicking and seeing the bigger image (but that's my opinion)
Second:
I never said watermark feature was not working, I said that the images uploaded by FTP (like my issue on post #6624) were not showing the watermark.
All my tests and opinions DO NOT INCLUDE LIGHTBOX, so that's why I didn't take that in consideration.
Now @DarkAngel and @nigelt74:
Based on my issue posted (#6624) and from your 2 latest posts, I ask:
When uploading the additional images, to what folder am I supposed to upload? to the large folder? subfolder? because maybe there is the clue. On the old IH2 I can upload just to the same subdirectory the main image is uploaded, and the other images are recreated on the other folders, so I'm doing it the same way on this version... So maybe that's my problem?

Yes, it did have some bugs but they were "workable".
I understood.. I wanted to make sure that it was CLEAR for everyone following this thread since hotzones was an extension of the on-hover functionality..
Workable bugs unfortunately means that the feature doesn't work consistently, and that only creates support issues..
That said, while you may have gotten it to work, others had issues with it.. In QA testing for Rev 7 we began to look at hotzones and why it failed to work consistently. In Rev 8 development, neither ckosloff or Mano could figure out WHY. Therefore the feature was de-scoped.. From our standpoint there was no point in continuing to try and support a feature which did not work consistently. In the collective opinion of those working on the release in which the function was 1st "de-scoped", hotzones was a MINOR feature and NOT the primary reason to install IH2 in the first place.
There were BIGGER concerns with the Rev 7 and Rev 8 releases that needed to be addressed including PHP 1.53 compatibility, updates to the JS for better browsers compatibility, and updates for Zen Cart v1.3.9 compatibility. Therefore, fixing hotzones became a low priority.
It's removal did not affect the primary functionality of IH2 which is why we were comfortable with making this development scope decision. Like image hover, hotzones are simply a "cool nice to have" feature. IH2's BIGGEST value to a shop owner is in the resizing and image optimization features it offers. When we stated it added no value one way or the other to IH2 this is what we meant by that statement.

I agree.. and I think this and lightbox integration issues is why Tim never went further with developing this feature.. The upcoming version (thanks to Nigel showing the way) allows you to choose medium or large image as the small image hover.. I think this adds more value to the image hover feature than medium image hover.

Then this would indicate that the location you upload your images to are the issue... The watermark feature looks for additional images to be in the same folder as the primary product image.

Noted.. I included that information because over time I have found that it's incorrectly implement lightbox installs that can cause issues with IH2.

That's exactly how it should work.. The additional images need to be located in the same folder as the primary product image..

The bug of the hotzones I believe it was on the size settings. I really like it, like you say "not because it was the main purpose of the module, but like a little extra nice option to have", not always less is more. If I don't have that feature, I won't probably use the hover since I find it really annoying when browsing pages. Maybe just because I'm a control freak?! (((not))) it's really annoying.
Oh, and yes, that's where I'm uploading the images, so I don't have a clue of what's going on.

Image Handler 2 Support / STILL multiple images issues
I've tried several ways to get multiple images for a product, just adding more images with the same naming scheme and now I've installed Image Handler 2, still no dice:
Install seemed to go correctly, ran IH2 out of tools, went to the product where it sees 5 images for one particular product but only displays one?
I've pulled and re-added the images thru IH2 to see if that helped and still just one image?
Could it be because I am using a custom template that will not allow it?
The site is www.electronicCrap.com and the only product that is supposed to have multiple images at this time is here
http://electroniccrap.com/store/inde...products_id=26
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated :)

Go to your admin:
Catalog > Product Types > Product General > Edit Layout
Check if you have "Show Product Additional Images" as TRUE.
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Yeppers it is set to 1 (true), .. I had checked that before but just checked again in case the IH2 install changed it back. Frustrating but thanks for trying!!
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support / STILL multiple images issues
Just make sure we are not comparing apples to oranges, this isn't an issue with IH2 for you.. As you stated, additional images wasn't working for you BEFORE you installed IH2..
This means it's possible that there's one of two things going on:
- Your custom template modifies the default Zen Cart functions which control additional image behavior.
If this is a template that you purchased from Template Monster (or one of their affiliates), given their reputation for routinely slashing out required Zen Cart code to make their template "look" good, this does not surprise me. If it is a Template Monstrosity template, you will need to go back to them and ask them to fix your template to restore the default additional image behavior.
Even if it's NOT a Template Monstrosity template it's possible that your template customizations removed some fo the required code to allow additional images to function.. - The other option is that you have different file formats for your product images.. Please read through this support thread and the IH2 readme (where we very explicitly call this issue out). You can't have the main product image one file format with additional images another format.. (ie: JPG main image and PNG additional images)

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
thanks for that info.. I don't think the template is from them but it makes sense that this could very well be the issue. And yes, the images weren't working BEFORE I installed IH2. Of course thinking I had done something incorrectly, I dropped IH2 in.
Thanks for the help. I will get with the creator and post any findings!

Yes, it did have some bugs but they were "workable".
But the hotzones are not working on that site, I can put my mouse anywhere on an image and the pop-up appears (using opera)
also go to this page
http://www.couturebagz.com/index.php...&cPath=180_182
wait for it to completely load then test the image hover in chrome and opera (go down to the bottom of the page for both), as the hover doesn't work below the page fold.
Now go to the same page in IE9, wait for it to fully load, once its fully loaded the image hover ceases to work, some ie9 weirdness, the latest js should fix allthat, go back a few posts to find a link

are all the images of the same type eg exactly the same file extension as zencart (additional images)treats jpeg as different to jpg and jpg as different to JPG
Can you provide a direct link to the image (not the image handler version)
something like electroniccrap<dot>com/store/images/thispictue.jpg

I think that's an issue with the hover itself. I just took off the hotzone and has same behavior (I don't have Opera, please check).

a link to your store for the page that is not loading right would be helpful. as for that link to the post---that is afairly old thread and for the previous version of IH2 so not sure if it will wokr right.
make sure the images you are loading match...if the main image is a .jpg then its additiona images must also be .jpg Same fot .JPG, maybe it needs all those to be lower case?

The issue here is that Unix interprets uppercase and lower case as being different. Therefore .jpg is not the same as .JPG. Change your file names so that the suffixes are the same..

The change suggested in this thread will automatically convert your file extensions from uppercase to lowercase.. I've not tested this particular edit, but others have reported that the suggested change works. The post very clearly which file you need to edit and where the edit needs to be made.. So I'm not sure I understand what it is you are asking here..

Seriously, we have to conclude that this add-on is not a robust solution.
If you have many hundreds of images to deal with, perhaps it is worth persevering with, but otherwise...
I have tried to interest the developers in making this a better add-on but to no avail. And have been vilified many times for trying.
My advice is not to waste your time if you have less than, say, 200 images.
It is far better to resize them all yourself.
Or waste dozens of hours - as I have - trying to assist when requested (with no thanks but rudeness).

You know I had been looking at that problem after the discussion the other day, I was going to do the same thing via filetype but the way in that link is a much quicker less server intensive way.
However the one advantage filetypes had is they deal with jpeg & jpg, so what about adding the option to deal with the jpeg vs jpg issue, below that code
$data['imgExtension'] = strtolower($data['imgExtension']);
if ($data['imgExtension'] == "jpeg") {$data['imgExtension'] = "jpg"; }
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Which file are we talking about editing? Because the one discussed here http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84164
has a file path that doesn't exist in the most recent version (admin/includes/module/ih_manger.php)
I tried making these edits in admin/includes/ih_manager.php but it didn't work. Perhaps I'm editing the wrong file?

Just want to make sure I understand what it is that this code resolves:
- Convert lowercase file extensions to lowercase (JPG to jpg OR PNG to png)
- If the file extension = jpeg, covert it to jpg
Am I understanding this correctly??? If so I'll add to the code, and we can all test to be sure we get the same results..

Ok...because all my file extensions are uniform, here's what I did to prepare my site to test this bit of code change:
For the images on this page, I used FTP to make the following changes:
- main image file extension kept as .jpg
- first additional image file extension changed to .JPG
- second additional image file extension changed to .jpeg
- cleared the bmz_cache folder
- uploaded the new file you FTP'd over (which, except for the comments you added, is identical to the changes I made based on this thread discussion)
Then I cleared the browser cache and relaunched the browser. Went to the above page and no additional images show.
Did you make a change to more than one file? (I didn't upload the entire package...just the ih_manager.php file)
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Further....Firebug doesn't even see the section of the page where additional images are stored....As I type this...I just thought of something...let me go back to IH Manager and make the changes there.

the changes mentioned, only effect images uploaded via image handlers add additional image thingie in admin, it doesn't touch any files that have been ftpd.
for instance if you upload an image called bob.JPG (via the additional images) it will be renamed to bob.jpg
actually I wonder what happens if you first product image added in the add products section is bob.JPG
-------------------------------------------Edit
Problem
if your first image is .JPG, then the code addition will make your next image you add (via additional images) a .jpg, and therefore invisible in the store

I wanted to try and test that (delete the images and re-upload via IH's image uploading functionality...but before I can do it, I have to change the file extensions on my computer. BUT, when I try and do that, windows insists on putting them all back to .jpg...i.e. when I take a .jpg file and rename it .JPG, Windows defaults it back to .jpg.

most of them can't work!! The install is very simply, I don't know why they can't work. admin setting is correct.

What nigel said.. Which is pretty much the same thing I told you when I replied to your initial post here:
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...postcount=6703
Telling us "it's broken" tells us nothing.. You need to go back over the readme, check your install and then come back and provide DETAILS as nigel has suggested..

**nods in agreement** so I will be rolling both of those changes back..
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Okay.. I rolled back the JPEG change, but the case change I have no problem working regardless as to which image was uploaded first. If the 1st image uploaded is uppercase, it converts to lowercase, and vice versa..

Not if the first image is uploaded via the "add new product" page, the image in that case will retain its case.
So your main image is bob.JPG (uploaded via the new product page)
when you add an additional image it will be named
bob_01.jpg
Which won't show up in the storefront because the extension is a different case
But i've just emailed you an alteration that will make all uploaded additional images have the same extensions (providing they are the same filetype)as the main image for that product.
So if your base image is bob.jpg
And you upload the additional image bill.JPEG it will be renamed to bob_01.jpg
or if your base image is bob.jpeg
And you upload the additional image bill.JPG it will be renamed to bob_01.jpeg
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Got it.. I was using the IH2 interface or FTP to upload images..
I got your e-mail.. I e-mailed you back a question regarding the IH2 filetype settings and your new code..

Opera is not working at all on your site now
Did you update the javascript to the newer version, as the current version doesn't work correctly with Internet explorer 9
the version you have was the one with the fold issues in some browsers and extremely bad support for chrome and opera, the current js file is backwards compatible with pretty much any installation of IH2, so you can just upload the js file over top of the existing one
a good test is to wait for the page to load, then scroll to the bottom of the page and try the hover over the bottom images, if you don't see the hover then you have the old version

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi,
If you get this error: Warning: strstr() [function.strstr]: Empty delimiter in XXXXXX when using image handler, check that you have an entry for Product Info - Image Medium Suffix and Product Info - Image Large Suffix under the Images section. I entered "_MED" and "_LRG" in here and it solved the problem for me.

Re: New version of IH2 (v2.8.5) in review!
Just wanted to let everyone know that we're going to take our QA discussions offline. I will update everyone following this support thread with updates as needed..
That said here's where we are at.. The QA testing is going well and as of last night it looks like NIGEL has resolved the filetype case issue!!
(the workaround for now is to NOT upload files with filetype extensions of differing cases -- ie: .jpg vs JPG)
So keep your eyes out on this thread for updates as they come.. (should be able to wrap this up fairly soon!!)
Stay tuned..

v2.7.4 Changelog
- Fix fancy quotes.
- Correct minor issue where image file paths would include an un-needed "/"
- Add an admin configurable option whereby shopowners can choose whether or not the large or medium image will display in the "on hover" image effect
- Revise module version numbering for (hopefully) the last time. We are eliminating the "Rev" numbers format. The new version number is based on the number of releases from inception to current. It is meant to reflect what the version number SHOULD have been had a more conventional version numbering system been used for this and all prior releases
- Re-format and re-write readme file. Among the changes included:
- Better (and MORE) images
- Full integration of Tim Kroeger's AWESOME original documentation
I am especially excited about the integration of Tim's original documentation into the IH2 readme.. I think that many of IH2s MOST COOL and MUST HAVE features are often forgotten in a sea of "image hover" an lightbox questions..
The inclusion of Tim's original documentation really provides a GOOD overview of IH2 and most importantly really demonstrates that this little app is SO MUCH MORE than a way to add cool image hovering effects..
Did you know for example:
- That one of IH2's default settings (yes the ones NO ONE ever REALLY looks at) will compress and optimize your product images for you?? No need to use Photoshop or other similar tools to compress your images to make them "web ready". IH2 will do all of this heavy lifting for you.
- That IH2 will convert your images for you from one filetype to another on the fly? For example you can upload a JPG file and specify that IH2 generate all product thumbnail images (small image) as GIFs, all medium product images as JPGs, and all large product images as PNGs. This saves you from have to create and convert all these different files. Simply upload your JPG source and IH2 will take care of the rest for you.
Files are being reviewed as we speak.. Once I get the thumbs up from my testers, I will submit to the downloads section..

My suggestion is to go through your product names as well as ALL your category and product images and remove any of these offending characters and see if you get a different result..
Also check that your product attributes also do not contain any of these characters..
Try removing or modifying your product attributes.. The ones for this product contain slashes /

Pretty much what Diva said 99% of the time this is caused by image names,
can you provide a direct link to the original image on your site
as in

just not the link you get from imagehandler

Wouldn't it just be easier to at least consider what I have long suggested - that some clever person attempt to code an override to this error?
All other image handlers have done so long ago.
(Yes, I realise it may not easily happen - thank you volunteers - but it should at least be placed on the to do list, instead of being sneered at.)

I just wanted to pop in and tell you all, especially Diva and her people that I'm very happy that image handler is continuously being improved by you. I'm away from zen-cart and php in general for several years now but it's really great to know that IH still gets so much use. Now that the next version is coming along, I'm kind
of proud that the initial (and very simple) idea of the "on the fly image resizing and caching" mod seems to have had enough potential, that people from all around the world are using it. Even when I kind of abandoned it, it was picked up by other people to provide support and fix and improve the code. So that is a huge thank you from me to the zen-cart community in general and Diva and her people especially.
Cheers :bigups:
Tim

But the REAL work on this mod has been done by much smarter folks than little ol' me.. Nigel, nagelkruid, ckosloff, and others have been the real hamsters behind the wheel for the last year or so..
I simply did a little writing, and testing 'tis all..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi Diva
Will IHv3 work with animated gifs.
If not, could you please post a note to this affect in the documentation.
I have one animated gif (50kb) on my site used as a category image for animated products, but which IH turns into a static image. Maybe its time I used another format (eg *.swf, except that many browsers are set to kill flash). Any recommendations.
Cheers

But the REAL work on this mod has been done by much smarter folks than little ol' me.. Nigel, nagelkruid, ckosloff, and others have been the real hamsters behind the wheel for the last year or so..
I simply did a little writing, and testing 'tis all..

I think what he's asking is, will IH2v3.0 allow an animated gif to display as animated on hover, vs. capturing the animated gif and displaying it as a static image on hover.

This is what I expect would occur, and you have verified that this is what will occur..
Module has been submitted, and I'm afraid it's too late to update the documentation with any such notation.. (admins will also frown upon submitting an update for a minor modification after it's available to download)

Re: IH2 and Lightbox - addtional Images
Hi Just thought i would post this as I have spent for the (2nd time due to moving hosting) 2 days looking for the answer as how to get the addtional images to use lightbox instead of the borowser pop-up
As I had lightbox first when you install IH2 it overides the includes>modules>[Your_Template}>addtional_images.php
So all I final did was
upload the lightbox addtional_images.php again
and hey viola addtional images work in lightbox and the prev - next buttons re- appear.
Tip _ when you find a fix write it down so next time you wont have to search through all the forum again.. sound simple - I never was that bright :oops:
I hope this helps others and if the mods think this is not the correct fix then please am -end..
OH and this forum is great!!!! thanks guys

Or...how about this tip? Read the ReadMe that comes with the IH2 fileset ;)
From the ReadMe:
Quote:
Zen Lightbox - Replace the additional_images.php from Image Handler2 with the one that comes with Zen Lightbox. (Zen Lightbox has included all the merged code required for Zen Lightbox and Image Handler2 to work well together)

For those who've asked, Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x is now available for your viewing enjoyment..
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=1910
Along with the new name there is a new support thread for Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x..
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=178972
Please post Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x related questions in the Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x support thread (not this thread).. This allows questions and answers for Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x to stay all together in the RIGHT support thread..
(you will be {gently} reminded should you "forget" this:smile:)
THIS thread should continue to serve as the place to address all Image Handler 2 for v1.3.x questions.. Please DON'T post Image Handler 2 for v1.3.x questions on the Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x support thread.
(though hopefully you will upgrade to Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x and join us on the Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x support thread )

Anyway.. carry on.. Enjoy the new version..[/FONT]

Woops! Yes it is! I forgot I was looking at the new one, which hopefully, everyone will upgrade to and - during that process - read the brand new ReadMe that comes with it! That will save a lot of folks a lot of trouble in the future!

Re: IH2 and Lightbox - addtional Images
Not for nothing, but ScriptJunkie's remarks weren't meant to be taken any other way except to provide a little nudge in the right direction.. That said, if you read the rest of what followed her post, you'll see that she made an honest mistake in referencing something that's NOT in the current IH2 fileset or readme.. (hence why you didn't see it -- the quote she posted is from the NEW version of Image Handler 3 readme)
It's always puzzled me why folks get upset when someone suggests an alternate source of information as condescending, rude or as if someone has deemed someone as a "less worthy mortals". This is far from true for many of us, and I think ScriptJunkie is indeed one of those people as well..
Apologies your feathers were ruffled, but that was NOT the intent of ScriptJunkie's post.. She (like me) is VERY excited about the re-vamped Image Handler 3 readme which is better organized and provides a lot more information UPFRONT. Her intent was to HELP.. (which is why she posted a quote from the Image Handler 3 readme)

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
we obviously have different perceptions of what was written not withstanding the fact that I didn't need a nudge in any direction and thought, obviously mistakenly, that It would be helpfull to others as I noted whilst on my search that this was a common issue I also and a bit tongue in cheek I used TIP in my original post as this was the 2nd time I had search for the answer as I had just transferred to a new hosting provider and it was IH was the only thing that dind't work straight away and need attention.....and wished when I sorted it last time I had written down what I had done -- as at my age the memory is a bit short term..
Oh & just for the record I was pretty excited that I had finally killed all the issues I had so that made two of us!!!! - and I thought the comment was rude, sarcastic and uncalled for..
mmm not sure I will be upgrading just incase I need assistance:no:

Indeed which is why we included information in the new readme to cover this common issue (and WHY it was quoted in the reply to you).. I understand something similar will also be included in upcoming ZLB readme file as well..

Then something for you to consider here.. Isn't it possible that what you thought was "tongue in cheek" didn't read that way to others?? Perhaps the response was based on thinking you needed help..
Again sorry your feathers were ruffled, but I'm positive that being a smarta$$ wasn't the intent behind the post you are offended by..

IH2 Corrupt Image Handling
zc 1.3.9h
ih2 rev8d
Long story short I somehow wound up with some corrupt images from a vendor. They displayed. Everything seemed fine. But as soon as we put 'em into our store IH2 stopped optimizing those images. Then the problem began to spread to other images - possibly because we cleared the image cache and things wouldn't rebuild properly anymore.
There was an error in the server error_log.
Code:
Not a JPEG file: starts with 0x42 0x4d
I loaded the suspect files into gimp and saved them as jpegs (which they were already supposed to be). Cache cleared. Problem solved.
I sort of understand that the corrupt images would be a problem - but the problem (of rendering / optimizing) spread to other images. Is there a memory leak or something at work here?

Diva is correct - I'm just excited about the new version and the updates made to the ReadMe and simply quoted from the wrong one.
I have obviously hurt your feelings. I'm sorry, it wasn't intended.
Here is my something useful: Feeling less than from a remark made by someone you know nothing about, and whose intentions are unclear is a fairly common response among us women. I believe it stems from living in a world where, although having come a long way, still struggles with providing women with a sense of equality and value. Therefore, we must find it within ourselves, because nobody is going to give it to us.
This experience can, if you choose to allow it, provide you with deep insight into yourself based on your responses. It is a golden opportunity for growth and self empowerment.
Or, you can choose to remain hurt, angry, and frustrated. It's completely up to you and what you choose to take away from the experience :)

First, I recommend installing the latest version: IH3. It can be downloaded from here. After installing, if you have questions or need support, you can find that on the IH3 support thread - here
To answer your question about protecting your images from theft...both IH2 and IH3, as well as Zen Cart itself, provide several protections for you.
1. Zen Cart v139 has .htaccess files that provide an extra level of safety in terms of people being able to browse your image folder for the purpose of stealing your images. As long as you don't remove that file, all should be well.
2. Image Handler takes your main image, and makes optimized copies of it, which are then stored in a folder called bmz_cache. When your pages load, the images are loaded from this folder, and the file path to the images is obscured so thieves can't track back to your images.
3. Image Handler comes with built in watermark files, which watermark your images so that if someone DOES manage to steal them, they get a copy with a watermark across it...essentially rendering the image useless to them.
This is a HUGE deterrent to thieves.
All you have to do to use this feature of Image Handler, is set the watermark settings to "yes" in your admin. Complete instructions on how to do this are in the ReadMe.
Here's the bottom line: Your images are safer with Image Handler than without.

This issue has been raised several times, and not just by me, in this thread since 2007, and even your kind self has posted on this matter.
While a workaround of resizing the gif to the category image size has been suggested, I have yet to achieve this with my gif, which was supplied to me by a graphic artist long since vannished, and which appears to be locked against any amount of editing.
An alternative solution to this problem may be to exclude this one image and its category from IH, however, I have really no idea how to do this.
Suggestions welcome.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Have you considered turning over the image to a graphic designer or other person proficient in working with images to see if they can do anything about enlarging?
Honestly, I'm not sure how successful that would be anyway, since it's very difficult to enlarge images and retain quality. But, I'm not an image pro either.
As an alternative, what about getting someone to make you a similar image in a larger size, with the understanding that they give you the largest size/highest quality version of the image and allow you to size it down yourself?

Hi ScriptJunkie
I consider commissioning a graphic designer as a last resort as the original image cost several hundred dollars and recent quotes have not been much different.
In any case, where suppliers of animated artworks may also supply their own animated graphic for their product image, these too may be sorely affected by IH, even if out by only a fraction of 1px from the category image dimension specs.
Hmmm!

I'd like to see that as I am not a fan of animated GIFs (No offense, but IMHO they are antiquated as there are better ways to display a "slideshow" of images). I have a hard time believing I made any sort of inquiry about them as I have discouraged ALL of my clients from using GIFs in general let alone animated GIFs.

Image Handler does not enlarge images.. It never did.. And enlarging small images leads to poor quality images anyway.. To modify your animated GIF you need software that will correctly read the GIF and the layers which make up the animation. PhotoShop will do this, but I'm sure GIMP or other software might do the same.. You might try Googling for software suitable for editing animated GIFS..
An alternative to consider is to use a different image for this category and incorporate your animated GIF into the category description.. This way you won't need IH2 at all to display this image..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi, I hope somebody can help me with this.
I'm still running ZC 1.3.8 and installed Image Handler 2.
When I upgrade my Firefox Browser to v.4, now every time I click "larger image" to view bigger image, it only shows a vertical white box.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
ScriptJunkie,
Thank you so much for your advise.
One more question, IH2 and IH3 also perfectly work for simple HTML
basic picture gallery website right? Are they also can protect from image theft even the site has not .htaccess files?

As per the Image Handler readme files, Image Handler (last v2.0 release and v3.0) include an .htaccess file in the bmz_cache directory.
Suggest you download the add-on and take a look through the files so you can decide for yourself before installing.. If you decide to install IH3, then you need to post your IH3 support questions on the IH3 support thread. (not this thread)
The readme for both versions will answer most (if not all) of the questions you have.. (and if you decide to install IH3, the 1st three posts of the support thread DEFINITELY answers the question you are asking)

You don't say WHICH version of IH2 you are running, but if it's an older version, the answer probably lies in upgrading to either the most recent IH2 version or upgrading to IH3.
a link to your site would be a HUGE help (and a link to the specific product you are having the issue with)
