Dunno.. Dunno know what you mean by "IH4 does not function anymore". Provide details (see page one of this support thread for tips on the kind of details you should be providing). Before you post, you should review the troubleshooting tips in the IH4 readme and see if the answer to your problem is there.

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Thank you for the reply. I did not find related answer in the readme.
At mouse hoover I see the enlarged image coming up for every image I have in my list, but I wanted to change the defult image size from 100x80 to 150x120 in the - Configuration > Images - section so it shows a little bigger when the visitor watches it without moving the mouse on it.
Once I try to change the dimension to even just one pixel and hoover over it, the enlarged image does not show up, IH4 no longer has function even if I hoover on an image that I left as defult 100x80.

Please review the section in the readme that covers how the image hover feature works and specifically pay particular attention to how the image settings need to be configured for it to work..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Thank you. It worked. The solution was to read it over and over again. I am new to this. The only thing I missed was the "small image width" and "small image height" did not match with the desired product listing image dimensions.
Thanks again,

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Help required please.
I am into Day 3 of trying to configure IH4. I've refrained from posting questions, but now could do with some help.
I have resorted to a completely fresh install of ZC 1.5.1, including example categories and products.
I have not created a custom template. Everything is out of the box.
My GD Version (described in php info) is: "bundled (2.0.34 compatible)"
I have read through the installation instructions and installed as described (Route 1, following "New Installation Instructions").
Messages at top of Admin indicated successful install. I also deleted the file indicated in the last line of the messages.
Both IH4 Admin pages look as they should:
Admin > Catalog > Categories/Products
Admin > Tools > Image Handler4
I changed IH resize images to "yes".
From the Configuration tab, I followed the instructions in the "Zooming (fancy hover effect)" section, removing all heights for the image settings, as you have, and replacing the width = 100 settings with width = 50 (so I could see a difference in image size for the hover behaviour).
Other changes:
Product Info - Image Width = 97 (so I can check that the change is effected in the browser)
My problemn is that I don't see any larger images (or indeed anything happening at all) when I hover over small images in pages such as "All Products" or "New Products".
If I click one of these small images, I get the product info page, with the 97px wide image, as expected. Click on that and I get a rather ugly default ZC popup window with a 200px wide image (where does this dimension come from?).
Can anyone suggest what I need to do to enable my images-on-hover?
Thanks.

Nope because NONE of us can see your site, and you haven't posted the full results from your image settings.. I won't begin to just lob random guesses at a problem..
So here's what I do suggest.. I am reposting what I just recently posted for someone asking a similar question.. I'm also including the response from the SAME community member (who's posts appear just above your first post) of what he realized he missed in setting up the image hover..
Usually when someone says they have followed the instructions in the readme and the hover doesn't work, it can be traced back to one setting they did not update.. ALL of the settings laid out in the readme must be updated or the image hover will not work on ANY page.. If after re-checking EVERYTHING, the hover doesn't work, then you will need to post your image settings and a link to your page.. Otherwise it will be nearly impossible to figure out what is going on..
Also with regards to WHERE the image dimensions come from I do lay that all out in the readme document with pictures to help understand what images go where and what image settings drive them.. Also this module does NOTHING to modify the default large image popup window on the product info page.. If you do not like the popup, check out one of the many lightbox options available..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
I have a quick and hopefully easy question. Installed IH4 on 1.50 and for some reason when the person who owns the store tries to add a second image for her item, it pulls another image from another product. She has to go in and completely delete the item and do it over. Anyone else having this issue? If not would anyone perhaps have a solution?
This was a fresh install both 1.50 and image handler. Never ran into this issue before so not sure how to fix it.

It's NOT Image Handler, and in the readme document we have a troubleshooting section with a link to the FAQ that DOES cover this question.. Please review that FAQ and see if that helps you get to the bottom of the issue..

If you say nothing else has changed I don't have any idea what the issue can be.. and since it's intermittent it's safe to assume it's not really an issue with Image Handler, but some specific issue on your site.. You can try clearing your IH4 cache and seeing if that resolves the issue.. Otherwise you might want to make sure your source images aren't corrupted..

I would suggest rolling back to a pre IH4 install state and starting over.. IH4 is a super simple hassle free install and if you follow the installation instructions TO THE LETTER, it should just install and it should just work..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
Hi. I'm having a big problem loading images. I have read the read me file, and FAQ many times. I have gone through 29 pages of posts here. I have a website that will have thousands of images by the time its done. So I took particular note on how to name the images, and because of that I may be doing it wrong. My website is fourthquartersports.com... Under category, and sub category; Basketball>Youth Basketball Uniforms, I was able to add 3 or 4 products with 7-10 additional images, no problem. But then the problem starts as I try and add more products. The product image will show up on my product page when I hit preview, but it wont show up in image handler, as I try and add additional images. Then as I try and add more images I get this message. Error!
Unable to determine the page link!
Function used:
zen_href_link('', '', 'NONSSL')... So I have tried numerous times to rename the images to totally different first name without luck. I usually put 7 to 10 images on each product. I started off naming my image (on a particular product) 756_youth_basketball_jersey_columbia_blue_white_01.jpg..... I then name the additional images the same except at the end with an increase of 1 on each image. 02,03,04, ect. On the next product I start its name with the catalog number (924 for instance). I was hoping by starting the name with the catalog number I wouldn't run out of options. But even after running into problems and renaming the pictures, it wouldn't work. Heres a page that I cannot add images to, http://fourthquartersports.com/youth...short-924-p-69.. And heres one where all is well. http://fourthquartersports.com/youth...azzle-756-p-67.... I must need help in how to name them. But no matter how I name them now, it doesn't work. Please help. Thanks nate.... snoz4343##################

IH doesn't touch your original images, ever. (that is one of the things that makes this module safe, and a pleasure to use).
Don't worry about anything in the bmz folder. The images stored there are created as needed.

Alas, there isn't enough *useful* information here to give much of a clue.

Although I don't think it'll be a problem, it is generally advised the file names NOT start with a number.....

Just looked at the view source for the page and here is your image source
PHP Code:
<img src="images/_MED924_basketball_youth_basketball_uniform_short_striped_dazzle_bla" alt="Basketball etc etc etc
You will notice that the image name is truncated
Your name is tooooo long and won't fit in the database.
The image name is stored as varchar(64) and your image name is longer than that, so it gets chomped. The additional images won't show up as they are looking for a longer base name.

Gilby is right.. Your image names are FAR too long, and this is likely the cause of the issues you are having. The other thing I noticed is that you are uploading images to the large and medium folders which is something you don't really need to do with IH4 (please review the usage section in the readme).. You can simply upload your largest image and IH4 takes care to create the small and medium images. (based on your settings in the Images configuration menu) Re-name your images and use much shorter names.. Lose the "MED" and "LRG" designations in the image file names, shorten them, and then simply upload the largest image and let IH4 do the rest.
On another note, I doubt your re-writer is the culprit.. Those written to properly generate URL links by using "zen_href_link" (as IH4 surely does) will NOT cause issues with IH4 or any other add-on. Ultimate SEO and Ceon URI both are written to do this.. So I think you can safely eliminate those as the source of your issue with IH4..

thanks for all of the help. I don't know why its uploading to med, large. I just download the image from my dealer, and then upload it on zen cart. I did have to change my small image width to 50, so that I could get 10 images on a page without the images taking up the whole page. I will shorten the names and try it. Do you know why its uploading as medium, large, without me putting that in the name? Thanks

Normally you would only upload the default image and IH4 will create medium and large images for you.. I suspect that you are using the medium image and large image upload functions in the IH4 admin which you do not need to do UNLESS you want to use a DIFFERENT image for medium and large images (which IH has ALWAYS supported).. If you are using the medium or large image upload, then IH4 will name the image accordingly.. The default image upload is the most common use of IH4.. So you should use that if you only have ONE image that will be displayed for small, medium, or large images..
Please re-read the IH readme.. It really is covered in excruciating detail how to use this app and we tried to pay particular attention this go round to the image upload as we had discovered a BOATLOAD of features that were previously not well documented in IH's readme file and only ddocumented on the original authors site.. I incorporated Tim's usage guides into the current readme so it is CHOCK FULL of good information..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
I am updating from 1.3.9 to new zen cart 1.5.1.
I was using IH2 but now I am installing IH4. I have to merge some changes to IH4 files before the install and when I was comparing files I noticed that line 101 in IH4 in additional_images.php is different than in zen cart 1.5.1 See below:
IH4:
// Link Preparation:
$script_link = '<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"><!--' . "\n" . 'document.write(\'' . ($flag_display_large ? '<a href="javascript:popupWindow(\\\'' . str_replace($products_image_large, urlencode(addslashes($products_image_large)), $large_link) . '\\\')">' . $thumb_slashes . '<br />' . TEXT_CLICK_TO_ENLARGE . '<\/a>' : $thumb_slashes) . '\');' . "\n" . '//--></script>';
ZC 1.5.1
// Link Preparation:
$script_link = '<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"><!--' . "\n" . 'document.write(\'' . ($flag_display_large ? '<a href="javascript:popupWindow(\\\'' . str_replace($products_image_large, urlencode(addslashes($products_image_large)), $large_link) . '\\\')">' . $thumb_slashes . '<br />' . TEXT_CLICK_TO_ENLARGE . '</a>' : $thumb_slashes) . '\');' . "\n" . '//--></script>';
the only difference is
IH4:
'<\/a>'
ZC 1.5.1
'</a>'
In IH2 this code was same as in zc 1.5.1.
Is this backlash needed here?

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
I got a problem. Image Handler works very well in my store site, but something wrong with admin/tools/Image Handler. some product can appear in "Image manager" of Image Handler, but most other product can't appear here which also works well on store site. If I choose these "abnormal" product, it will jump to "admin tool" of Image Handler.
(Image Handler 4)
Thanks a lot.

I think I shoud re-describe my issue for understandablity.
I got a problem. I uploaded some product through EZ-populate and I can see all of them on my store which looks that IH works very well. But when I get into "admin/tools/Image Handler/image manager" to add some additional pictures for product, I can't choose some categories (not all) which have product. It alwarys jump to "admin/tools/Image Handler/admin tool", as soon as I choose those categories.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks for providing a clearer explanation..
and since this is not likely a bug or a defect (or others would have reported the issue) you need to provide LOTS AND LOTS of details.. starting with which categories/products "work" and which ones "don't work".. Provide links.. don't make folks root around your store looking for products/categories that "might" be where you are having issues..

Only the category "bracelets" can be choosed, the others are invalid. As what you can see on my store, all of the products of every category can show very well. The link:www.moimoii.com

Great.. now can you save me the trouble of rooting around your store and randomly clicking on links looking for stuff please??:lookaroun Please provide what I asked for before and post links to SPECIFIC PRODUCTS IN YOUR STORE where you see the issue and then post links to SPECIFIC PRODUCTS IN YOUR STORE where you don't have the issue.. Screen prints of your admin are not very helpful...A
lso you can only CHOOSE categories with an asterisk next to them.. So you can CHOOSE "Drops", but not "Earrings"

I mean I can't see anything wrong with online catalog (www.moimoii.com), at least not show on the website. Every product has small, med and large pictures which are showed very well by zen-lightbox , so there is no SPECIFIC PRODUCT which have issue on my website. The point is some of the categories can't be chosen and product-edited in admin/tools/IH/image manager, for example I can't add an additional image for product. Once I choose those categories, it will jump to the interface of admin/tools/IH/admin tools. (By the way, I only choose categories with an asterisk next to them). And I tried to use IH through clicking on the small IH icon of categories/products/one product, it also jump to the interface of admin/tools/IH/admin tools.

Understood what the problem is.. I asked for the links because it's possible that your image names or category/product names might be an issue, but since you aren't giving me the information I asked for let me summarize this way.. Your issue has several possible causes:
- Invalid image or product category names
- Image Handler is not installed correctly (missing files, other mods you installed which modified the same files as IH4 not merged correctly)
So you will need to go back and check these things.. IH4 out the box installs with no issues.. It doesn't have an issue which would lead to the problem you are describing unless one of these factors is in play.. The most common cause of issues usually lies in an incorrect install..

Appreciate your patience.
I think maybe there is something wrong with installation, because the names of categories and product should be valid which can be told clearly on my website. I will check the intalling again.

Hi,Divavocals
I have a question about installing zen lightbox after IH. In Misc of IH instruction, you said "just replace the Image Handler4 additional_images.php file with the one from Zen Lightbox". Which additional_images.php should I replace with the one from zen lightbox? There is no additional_images.php file in includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/ after installing IH. Or I just copy zen lightbox installing files to my server and there is no need to do another "replace"?

I there is no includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/ after installing IH4 then IH4 is not installed correctly.. Before you install the lightbox mod, you need to get IH4 installed correctly..

I installed IH as soon as I finished ZC 1.5.1 installation and I tried that twice at the local and my server. The admin confirmed successful installing for both and IH works very well so far. But I really can't find includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/ untill installed zen lightbox which has includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/ in its installing folder.
I'm just confused if IH installation will creat a includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/. You know there is no includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/ in IH's installing folder and the instruction don't ask us to rename or creat aincludes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/.

Please review the instructions.. Items 6 & 7 cover these files and their location in the IH4 fileset, and it covers what to do with these files.. Again, if you do NOT have a "/includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/additional_images.php" file in place after installing IH4, then you do not have this installed correctly..
(copy ALL of the add-on files to your store!! Most issues are caused by store owners who decide to NOT load ALL of the module files)

Just installed this on my test site.. Please note the message which refers to the creation of the "/includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/additional_images.php" file

Again, if you are not seeing this file after your IH4 install is complete, then that tells me that IH4 is probably not installed correctly.. But I don't know how that's possible since it would give you an error message if the files is not created..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
@fanisme
If you did not add a custom template to your installation then YOUR_TEMPLATE or CUSTOM_TEMPLATE would be classic.
When you see YOUR_TEMPLATE, CUSTOM_TEMPLATE, etc used in the forum or a mod's instructions, it is used to represent whatever template you are using. You can quickly find out what YOUR_TEMPLATE is by opening your home page, right-click somewhere and view page source. On 1.5.1 around line 15, you'll start seeing a lot of link rel="stylesheet" calls. Look at the one for stylesheet.css. If you have a custom template, it would look like "includes/templates/******/css.stylesheet.css. If there is nothing where the asterisks are, you are not using a custom template. If there IS something where the asterisks are, then that is YOUR_TEMPLATE.

Thank you, guys.
Hi Divavocals, you are right. I made a stupid mistake. Really appreciate your patience.
I just found another question. Do you think there is any conflict between IH and zx_slideshow? I had check this again and again. IH works very well when I didn't install slideshow. After installing slideshow, something wrong happened: can't jump to IH interface through clicking on the small icon on the right column of the product in catalog/categories/product and just one category can be chosen to edit on the IH interface. (exactly the problem that we talked and I showed you a vedio before)

With regards to IH4, the auto-install detects the current template and copies the appropriate files to the correct override folders.. but this only works IF the installation instructions are followed and folks don't cherry pick what files THEY think are important..

No clue.. I've never used this slideshow.. If there are files modified by this slideshow that are also modified by IH4, then it's possible that the code for the two needs to be merged properly..

Yep...
Even with the auto-install is used, it appeared that the OP was not familiar with the terminology.

Yep and that's exactly why I referred the OP back to the original install instructions where this is covered in pretty good detail. But I'm open to ideas if this needs to be worded differently for better clarity..

Since you provided NO DETAILS here, it's hard to answer your question.. Since you are leaving folks to GUESS what you mean by "how to change the file", let me lob a guess answer at you.. if you are asking can you create a slider with Image Handler, the answer is no, and I will kindly refer you to the first post of this support thread or the readme where it is explained what Image Handler does (and more importantly) and does not do.

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
Hi DV and friends
I was hoping not to have to post here :-( I've read, read again, scratched, read again to be sure, tweaked, uploaded, flicked on, off, etc etc and cannot get this working as expected.
I've installed IH4 using defaults on a developing Zen v1.5.1 install. No conflicts with files of note (one or two that were never modified-overwritten with IH4 versions). Several add-ons installed but nothing directly affecting images yet--seemed wise for IH4 to be the first and base for image related add-ons. IIRC/AFAIK, I'm not using any jscript or such with the add-ons.
Previously (with existing store) I've generated all images and uploaded to respective directories; ../images/nameX../ ../medium/nameX/.. ../large/nameX/.. for each manufacturer and used suffixes; _m, _l for medium and large versions. All .jpg. EP for bulk/mass product manipulation. FTP for images uploads. Almost all products (1'000's) have images and most have multiple images, sometimes up to 10.
For testing purposes on this new v1.5.1 install, I just dumped a few 'handfuls' of the small images for a few manufacturers. All working as expected.
For testing IH4, I have uploaded renamed large images directly to the relative images directory. Full size but no suffix.
Problem scenario 1:
1. No additional images (thumbnails) displayed despite images present - both existing and one or two products where I have specified/uploaded images via IH4 tools (not an option for me going forward, btw - not feasible for the number of images I deal with regularly).
2. Watermark on large image only (should be medium too)
3. No hover effects
Image - Use Proportional Images on Products and Categories = 1
For this test product...
- Full size images (x3) in 'small' directory i.e., ../images/nameX/
- No images of same name/model in 'medium' and 'large' directories.
Now, before you jump... the following configuration setting changes things...
Image - Use Proportional Images on Products and Categories = 0
SAME - Full size images (x3) in 'small' directory i.e., ../images/nameX/
SAME - No images of same name/model in 'medium' and 'large' directories.
1. Additional images present (full size displays on click too)
2. No watermarks
3. No hover effects
4. Medium image reduced quality compared to previous settings (crisp but not smooth lines). Thumbnail images also a little more jagged than expected (crisp but not smooth lines).
5. Medium image on click displays blank pop-up window i.e., no large image.
Other config settings...
Originally had my previous settings for small and medium sizes set (e.g., 100x80, etc) but now have used your example config settings (width only for small, medium and large [1200 for large]) and exactly the same result.
[edit: GD 2.0.34 installed according to server info]
I intended to write up other scenario details but my head is spinning now reproducing the settings and documenting the results.
I have my fingers-crossed that you will be able to say 'Oh, flick this and click that... and all will be good', but I don't have much faith in that. ;-)
Cheers

perhaps it's because it's early, but in this very long post I'm not truly clear on what the issue is.. and you haven't provided a link to your site.. (as we suggest ALL the time in this support thread).. I'm not entirely clear on what you mean by "Full size but no suffix". Does this refer to the filename extension or something else..
I gather that there are several issues (watermarks, image hover, image quality issue with medium images, no large popup)
Suggest going back to the readme.. review the configuration and usage tabs.. assuming you have this installed correctly (and since you've provided none of the information suggested in the readme or even on the first page of this post we can only guess that you do have this installed correctly) there are specific configuration settings required for the image hover to work.. There are other settings that may help with the image quality issues. Bottomline it may indeed be a button to "flick". Sounds like your admin settings need to be adjusted, and the usage & configuration tabs will provide the info you need..

LOL. No offence intended here, but I'm with you, it is hard to tell exactly what the issue is. This is just GAM's 'style' of bug reporting, it is all perfectly clear in his head, but it doesn't always translate well to the written word, <g>.

Fair comment, but unless I'm mistaken, he's currently in the process of doing an upgrade on a non live site, as such, there is no suitable link to be provided.

This related to ZenCarts 'conventional' image filenames for the different sized images (*_MED, *_LRG), which I admit has me a little confused because I'm under the impression that IH4 negates the need for these anyway.. doesn't it?

That was going to be my suggestion too, but I thought I'd wait to see what your input was first.
With respect to GAM, I will add that he's not a novice/noob. He has been using ZenCart for almost as long as I can remember (my wife just laughed, and said its been much longer than my 2 week memory capacity. <g>).
I fear that because of this, there probably isn't much that we can give in the way of specific advice for the problem(s) reported (This is where I was hoping you may have been more helpful than I could). Methinks there is just some fundamental cause, a misplaced file, a javascript conflict, or something of a similar nature that is going to be impossible for us to guess at, in which case, yes, its back to the readme and/or repeating the install until it does work.
GAM, FWIW, I have also had similar issues in the past with some IH installations. I know how frustrating it can be, but I don't think I've ever come across the same problem more than once... IOW, each time, the cause has been some minor thing that I'd overlooked or missed during the install.
The idea that it could be a 'Oh, flick this and click that' is a very good one, but as an old 'nemesis' used to frequently say 'It aint that simple'.
Cheers
Rod

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
Good moanin'
LOL, perhaps it was because it was late (GMT+10 here) ;-) Apologies for the somewhat confusing/unclear post. I was tackling that post at the end of (another) very long day following round upon round of read, reread, tweak, etc.
Thank you both for responding.
I have stock coming in and a load of orders to deal with this morning but I hope to get back to it ASAP and will read again with clearer mind and perform the necessary installation and configuration steps.
Rod is very astute and knows me well. We have worked on Ozpost together at different times for a very long time. Thanks for your input and assistance Rod. And yes, you are correct... mostly; IH4 isn't working properly and the site is currently 'down for maintenance'.
For clarity, Image - Use Proportional Images on Products and Categories setting effects results as follows:
Image - Use Proportional Images on Products and Categories = 1
1. No additional images (thumbnails) displayed
2. Watermark on large image only (should be medium too)
3. No hover effects
Image - Use Proportional Images on Products and Categories = 0
1. Additional images displayed (full size displays in pop-up)
2. No watermarks
3. No hover effects
4. Medium image quality not good
5. Medium image on click displays blank pop-up window i.e., no large image.
All other config settings as per Readme example.
Ignoring the above for now if necessary, please answer the following:
The readme states that IH4 works with Easy Populate and also works with an existing store, not affecting/modifying any existing images. My questions are:
1. Does IH4 regenerate images where they exist already? (I thought so)
2. How does it determine which image to use for IH4 'default' image given zen-cart image directory structure:
- store/images/my_manufacturer = small images with filename no suffix
- store/images/medium/my_manufacturer = medium images with filename and '_m' suffix
- store/images/large/my_manufacturer = large images with filename and '_l' suffix
[where, in my case, filename = model number]
Cheers

1. Regenerate in the sense that IF you replace any of the product images it will re-generate the image in the IH4 image cache.. Regenerate i nthe sense that if you clear (delete/remove) the images in the image cache IH4 will regenerate the image cache images. The STOCK images in the image folder however will NOT be regenerated if you delete it..
2. As the readme instructions state, (as does the first page of this support thread.. and I and others often say..) you DO NOT need to follow the DEFAULT Zen Cart structure for uploading large medium and small images.. UPLOAD THE LARGEST IMAGE and IH4 will take care to create the proper small, and medium images based on your image settings.. This means DO NOT use the medium and large image folders or suffixes or ANY of that..
Please do read through the read me usage tab.. It REALLY does explain in DETAIL how the image uploda works and other variations that IH supports (for example small image is one picture, while large image is a DIFFERENT image)

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
Hi
I've identified the problem... active template not set correctly. Sorry for wasting everyone's time. :( Hopefully this helps someone else out in the future in similar circumstances.
[Interesting though how some IH functions were activated/deactivated by the Image - Use Proportional Images on Products and Categories configuration setting]
I'm not used to having more than one template on my site and somehow managed to have 'English' set to the new template and Default(All) set to the old one. :frusty:
Preliminary testing indicates that IH4 is now functioning correctly on my site. There are some other curious little quirks that I need to investigate but probably my fault again.
Thank you Diva Vocals for your assistance and answers. I did have to ask the question regarding how IH4 handles existing images as it was unclear to me from the information provided in the readme. If it is stated there, I didn't notice and I apologise if I simply overlooked it. What I have noticed from testing and the results is that IH4 seems to use my primary images in my defined 'large' directory over any other images [small, medium] present for the same product. I'm wondering what it will do if I upload a low res image to my 'large' directory and a higher res image to my 'medium' directory... or if this case was present prior to IH4 being installed.
Your answer to question 2 was a good reminder but mostly out of context, which was... how does IH4 deal with 'existing' images.
From the point of view of someone that has been using default Zen-Cart image directory structures and methods for some time and no prior Image Handler experience, I feel that a little more detail could be provided in the readme on:
a. How IH4 processes images already existing on a site
b. Usage general practice for uploading bulk images (not using Image Handler admin tools). [Thorough details, explanations and instructions are provided for using the admin tools and dealing with images one at a time.]
Cheers

The question of how IH4 handles images already on the site is addressed, and that documentation covers the most common store setups.. Your image setup seems a tad unique and as such is not something I could have REASONABLY foreseen or tested for when testing IH4.. Since this is a volunteer effort please understand that neither I nor anyone who assisted in the testing and documentation of IH4 could POSSIBLY test every possibly variation of a store's image setup. If a community volunteer does want to do this level of testing and provide some insight in this regard, then I am more than happy to include these findings in the IH4 documentation..
There are three bulk image add-ons for Zen Cart and AGAIN, neither I nor anyone who assisted in the testing and documentation of IH4 could POSSIBLY test how IH4 works with each one of these add-ons for EVERY image setup.. What we CAN say (and do cover in the documentation) is that as long as these add-ons save the main image path using Zen Cart standards to the database, then IH4 will pick up the main product image which allows it to create the small and medium images correctly. (and yes volunteers did test this) There's no reason for instructions on usage of bulk product uploaders to be included in the IH4 readme unless the bulk uploader doesn't use standard Zen Cart methods for images.. The bulk uploader of your choice should have detailed usage instructions which guides you for how to properly include images in your bulk uploads and there's NEVER been a reason since IH4 was first created to DUPLICATE their usage instructions in IH4 readme.

IH4 works for normal store setups.. Your setup is unique and therefore as you discovered IH4 appeared to not be working when using a non-standard template setup..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
Thanks Diva Vocals
IH4 is a great add-on and something that I've wanted to use for a long time but always put off until I was ready to upgrade to the latest version of Zen... it has taken a few years to get to this point. My existing version of Zen-Cart is very old.
For the sake of clarity; I have never used any image add-ons on my site until now (this IH4 install).
As mentioned in my first post, I generate all three images (small, medium, large), rename with appropriate suffixes (_m, _l) and upload to the appropriate directories on my server. This is what I learned years ago to be 'standard' practice for images with Zen-Cart. I followed the FAQ suggestions at the time, which was to separate small, medium and large images into separate directory structures.

Understood.. but just as the IH4 documentation states, IH4 eliminates the need to do this 'tis all I was trying to point out..

Understood too. ;-)
Going forward with the new site I will be removing the obsolete size related directories and uploading all my renamed, 'large' images to the new site's ../images/manufacturer_name/ directories and let IH4 do all it's wonderful work for me :D This makes me very happy. :D:D
FWIW, I've been playing with the settings and I REALLY like what IH4 is doing. GREAT mod!
Thank you to all the contributors and supporters of this add-on.

EDIT: ps. Now on to the next add-on. ;-)

Indeed.. Glad you like it.. Tim Kroger laid an excellent foundation for this mod.. please check out all of the "little known" features that IH4 offers.. file type conversions.. displaying a thumbnail (small) image that is different from the large image, etc.. lots of neat little tidbits..

I always consider this to be one of the 'must have' mods.
A lot of people won't realise this, but not only does this mod do great things for a zencart merchant, it also does great things for the server hosting the sites. Firstly it eliminates the onus on the developer to create optimised images of the various sizes (a *huge* benefit in itself), it also uses a very efficient caching mechanism that minimises the need of resizing images on the fly.
It is one of those very rare mods that adds a lot of features and actually improves performance in doing so. IMO, it should become a part of the core code. :)

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
Because our website has too many pictures, I want to move them to another domain: http://www.xxx.com/images
I set up the code under:includes\configure.php:
Code:
define('DIR_WS_IMAGES', 'http://www.xxx.com/images/');
I need to change the <img src=bmz_cache/f/f80d0fad6742d2bc1025f58181039149.image.120x120.jpg">to<img src=http://images.xxx.com/bmz_cache/f/f80d0fad6742d2bc1025f58181039149.image.120x120.jpg">
how to edit IH4 code?
I have tried to edit IH4 includes\extra_configures\bmz_io_conf.php
Code:
$bmzConf['cachedir'] = DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'http://images.xxx.com/bmz_cache';
and IH4 admin\includes\init_includes\init_image_handler.php 44-47 line
Code:
DIR_FS_CATALOG.'http://www.xxx.com/bmz_cache/.htaccess',
DIR_FS_CATALOG.'http://www.xxx.com/images/watermark.png',
DIR_FS_CATALOG.'http://www.xxx.com/images/large/watermark_LRG.png',
DIR_FS_CATALOG.'http://www.xxx.com/images/medium/watermark_MED.png',
but it didn't work.

This shouldn't really be a surprise. There is so much amiss with what you've done that its hard to know where to start.
Lets start here:
define('DIR_WS_IMAGES', 'http://www.xxx.com/images/');
Other than the SERVER defines, you'll note that none of the other defines have the "http...." format (other than your addition). What makes you think you would be able to make such an obvious radical departure of the format and actually expect it to work?
What is going to happen here is that your 'define' will simply be appended to the SERVER define (just like the others), and the final URL being requested will be
http://yourserver.name/http://www.xxx.com/images/. Clearly not a valid URL.
The next thing to note is the names that have been assigned to these defines, specifically, they all start with either DIR_WS_ or DIR_FS. This isn't because the developers couldn't make up their mind, it is because they signify different meanings. The "WS" indicates the path/url as seen by the webserver, and the "FS" indicates the path to the files on the host machine... IOW, one is actually a portion of a URL, the other is a portion of the file System and has nothing to do with Webservers at all.
"$bmzConf['cachedir'] = DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'http://images.xxx.com/bmz_cache';"
is going to end up looking for the images on the servers' own file system, under
a pathname like "/home/youraccount/public_html/http://images.xxx.com/bmz_cache"
Clearly, not a valid pathname.
"DIR_FS_CATALOG.'http://www.xxx.com/bmz_cache/.htaccess'",
I've no idea what this is supposed to be doing.
Anyway, now that I've told you all the things you've done wrong, I guess I should attempt to tell you what you need to do to put it right.
Alas, it isn't as simple as you are hoping. It isn't just a matter of changing these 'defines' because to do what you want you need to modify some
of the core code to bypass the normal processing of the image code.
Although this isn't something I've done (or attempted) for myself, I am of the understanding that at least one of the regular participants
around here has adapted thier store to serve their images from a 3rd party site and they may be willing to step in and share.
I've no idea if they've done this with, or without IH4 though.
Personally, I don't see much point to do this anyway. If my hosting sites aren't up to the task of serving up its own
images I won't hold much trust in them to host the store in the 1st place.. it'll only be a matter of time before SQL server gets overloaded (or similar), and
the idea of moving half the site (the images) off to another server due to limits on the 1st server seems like a half assed fix to a problem that
is best avoided in the 1st place.
Is you next step going to be to set up a remote SQL server when your current host tells you that your store is making too many SQL queries?
(Yes, some hosts have been know to put pressure on ZenCart merchants' due to seemingly excessive DB queries).
Anyway, make what you will of this rant. It is not my intent to cause you offence with my critique over what your done,
or what you wish to do. The 'mistakes' I pointed out are just a typical example of what others have also done
in the past (and will no doubt continue to do in the future). Please don't take my comments personally.

I have to agree with this and will add the following comments.. Seems the RIGHT solution is to find a hosting provider who can better service the site without having to serve up the images from a separate domain.
However, if the OP insists on making this solution work, he is probably going to have to seek out some professional development assistance to properly modify IH4 to use his third party image site location as opposed to the default Zen Cart image location (as IH4 is designed to use). I too am not aware of anyone making third part images with IH4.. Doesn't mean it can't be done.. It's software.. it's possible if you are willing to put time and effort (and sometimes money) into it.

No Images in Admin and no Popups
I have my new site up and working so I thought it was time to get my images in order. I have a local version of my site that I test on so I cannot give you a link to it. The details of the setup are below.
Zencart Version: 1.5.1
Template: Abbington Mega
Addons: FEC, CSS/JS Loader, Image Handler 4 Install Method 1
Local Host: XAMPP 1.7.4
Image Manger in Admin
Attachment 12609
GD Info from phpinfo
Attachment 12610
I have gone through all the files as you would in Install Method 2 and found nothing that I "SEE" to be wrong. My admin shows no images and I am not getting any popups when I hover. Basically the settings and menus in the admin appear to be correct...but nothing works. I am baffled. After going through the instructions for the 6th time, I cannot see anything that I missed. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Re: No Images in Admin and no Popups
ah...forgot...I have no logs showing errors.
one more note...XAMPP is running on Windows XP SP 3

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Running Version 1.5 of ZenCart, have only Image Handler V4 installed for photo maintenance with GD FreeType Version 2.3.7 (GD Version bundled (2.0.34 compatible)). Probably need to upgrade to the most recent sub-version; however, haven't seen in the documentation anything that indicates a potential upper limit on image dimensions. Others have commented either in this version or previous versions about how they have had to resize the image before presenting to IH4. I typically will ensure that the largest dimension of an image is 1280 pixels. Though some have been larger without issue, this seems to be about where the image can be displayed even in the small perspective. Otherwise, pages will not display that include the image (at any size) which is problematic also in the admin section.
Is this something that IH4 can not handle, is it related to GD, is it a combination of the two? When such an image is uploaded and causes problems, then if I disable IH4, I can go back and address the image (remove, replace, etc...); however, I can't seem to remember having seen anything documenting the upper limits of an image.

My suggestion to both is to check your image settings and make sure they follow the recommendations as per the readme document.. If this doesn't work you will probably want to roll back your install and start over being VERY careful to make sure you've installed this correctly..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
I am using ZC V1.5. After using Image Handler for over a year, I am suddenly getting
Image Handler4
No Image Handler information found.
Image Manager
Admin Tools
Preview
About/Help
Uninstall Image Handler. (Please backup your site and database first)
Clear image cache
Scan for old IH 0.x and 1.x original images
I cleared the cache, but still get the same as the above.
All of the previously loaded images still work as they should.
Do I have to uninstall IH4, and reinstall? If so, do I have to upload all of the images again?
-
Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
Further information:
When I first open Image Handler, the above appears.
If I click on Image Manager, the first category appears as per normal. This category is working.
If I try to go to another category, the screen appears as in my OP.

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
What image doesn't the Image Handler pop-up window show? cached large image or originally uploaded image?
Zencart: 1.5
Image Handler: 4.2
It seems that my website shows originally uploaded picture. eg.
http://www.ninesilk.com/silk-womens-...reen-p-48.html
Should I change it to show IH4 created large picture? Is it going to be faster if the pop-up window shows cached large picture? How should I do that?
Thank you very much.

I just installed this mod and for some reason after I did all the descriptions of my products disappeared.. I did everything to the "T" as the instructions stated and now I'm at a loss as to how to fix it. I've tried reinstalling the files but it didn't work.

It looks like something got broken during the installation. The page is aborting before being fully displayed.
I suspect that things will work again if/when you revert back to the original 'classic' template.
If you happen to recognise the following piece of code:
<!--bof Additional Product Images -->
As being a part of one of the files that you edited/replaced, then that file is the culprit. The cause of the problem could be something as simple as a blank line inadvertently added to the end of the file.
The best way to get your store back online as quick as possible will be to restore/reinstall your template files. In fact you should make this your priority. You can come back and re-install IH later.
Cheers

So, I looked at the above provided "broken" page and then clicked on the link to step back one: http://katstamps.com/shopping/index....ex&cPath=33_65 and was able to see a list of items that appear to have descriptions based on all of the extra text between lines.
Before taking action as inferred here, please read.
If not mistaken, I thought the installer for IH "integrated" with the existing file structure so that uninstalling would return things back to the way they were before. Further, it seems that it is to affect the applicable template file that displays individual product information. And yet more is that if in fact the instructions have been followed to a T that there is/was some alternate template mod that did not get considered prior to installation.
Before really diagnosing, when you say that information is missing, is it missing from the screen or your datatbase? If from your database, then restore the backup made prior to installation of IH, if from the screen, then perhaps reviewing what database field that information is in might help. Also by checking to see if you have any error logs that might indicate what the problem is.
There may be a modification error made to your site a long time ago that has only now surfaced. As you might come to find out, installation of this mod in accordance with the instructions is unlikely to have caused your issue. I'll leave it there, but suggest providing additional detailed information to ensure quality support.
My recommendation is to uninstall, and then from step one, install again. (I thought the uninstall was pretty much automatic once initiated.) From further independent review, it appears that the descriptions still exist, but are not presented and that as part of installation, something has not been performed in accordance with the instructions, otherwise it would seem that the files modified would be as they were plus the new image code, not some variation of what they were with the new image code.

1) The page *is* broken (try 'view source')
2) clicking on the link to take you back a step is taking you to a different page. One that hasn't been modified, there is no reason for it to not work.
3) The 'descriptions disappeared' is misleading. The actual symptoms being no data beyond the <hr class="product-divider"></hr> is being output, which includes additional images, followed by the description, then the right hand sidebar, and finally the footers.

I'm not saying that mc12345678's diagnostics aren't without merit. It is a matter of priority’s. If this were a test/development store rather than a live store the prioritys would be different.

Thank you in advance.
Your description of the problem is tad vague here, so you need to clarify a few things.. Exactly WHEN did "descriptions of my products disappeared"?? IMMEDIATELY after you installed IH4 OR IMMEDIATELY after you "did all the descriptions". It makes a difference as to the actual cause of the issue. Also what do you mean by you did when you say you "did all the descriptions".
IH4 if installed correctly should just work (meaning all files are uploaded to the correct locations as per the installation instructions).. You are using a Picaflor Azul template which are well made.. So unless you made modifications to your template, it is UNLIKELY the template is the cause.
I suspect that the issue here is either an incorrect IH4 install or something you've modified in your store after installing IH4 is the cause of your issue. (thinking it's more likely the latter than the former) Suggest rolling back your store to the state it was prior to installing and starting over with JUST installing IH4. Make sure it works before you do anything else.

Missed BOTH of RodG's posts... Carry on.. His advice pretty much mirrors mine.. roll back.. start over.. The issue isn't IH4 but some other modification or faulty installation..

3) The 'descriptions disappeared' is misleading. The actual symptoms being no data beyond the <hr class="product-divider"></hr> is being output, which includes additional images, followed by the description, then the right hand sidebar, and finally the footers.
To the OP. I stand by my advice:
The best way to get your store back online as quick as possible will be to restore/reinstall your template files. In fact you should make this your priority. You can come back and re-install IH later.
I'm not saying that mc12345678's diagnostics aren't without merit. It is a matter of priority’s. If this were a test/development store rather than a live store the prioritys would be different.
Cheers
Rod
Yeah, unfortunately I don't have a browser installed on my cellphone that offers showing the page code. I totally agree with the priorities, but didn't want the OP to hastily take random actions. I've read enough times in this Forum about the importance of following the instructions, and have had to go through them myself. I was hoping to save Diva Vocals a chime in, but alas we three wrote at about the same time.
The back to business part is like said roll back, and try again. Good to have a snapshot of what you have, so as to maybe figure out in future how it happened and maybe prevent again, but I think I'll back out now. Doesn't seem like this kitchen of chefs needs this line cook.

Basically through the css stylesheet for yoour active template's product page you should be able to position the additional images.
I'm not good with the various css commands and often have to search online to accomplish what I am tryiing to do or just try different things until it works. (I don't recommend significant testing on an active site, rather some test/local site.)

Respectfully this discussion is not related to the support of Image Handler 4, and should be continued on a separate thread..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Hi everyone, I am having a stupid question, I tried to search around but cannot get the answer, I am using zencart 1.5.1 and IH4. Everything seem smooth after installed. But in the product page of the additional image, only the first image has watermark while the other additional image do not have, how can I fix this problem?

Would help to have a link to the site so we're not guessing..

This is not related to IH4 support.. this is a template modification question and should be posted in a new thread..

Re: Image Handler 4 Support Thread
Hello all.
I just installed IH4 and all seems to be working except.. I can't get the additional images to appear in my products. For example.. I have uploaded an additional image for this product:
http://katstamps.com/shopping/index....products_id=44
But it's not showing up in the store.. But it does show up in the admin. Is there something special I need to do to make it go "live"?
Thanks in advance.
Vikki
Ps.. Running V. 1.5

Nope.. so I would say something else you've installed is interfering with the additional images code from fully rendering..

Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread
Diva & et al,
Having a problem with 2 of 3 pics uploaded and IH4 handling them.
ZC 1.5.0 installed, Light Box and IH4 are the image handlers.
Web page having difficulties is:
http://www.pugsugottasave.org/shop/D...ly-and-Growler
When clicking on the current main image to view the larger image, light box can't seem to pull up the photo, the first additional image (at the bottom of the screen) does not display when hovered on, but the second additional image does. Also, can see that a bmz_cache record does not show when hovering over the first additional, but does when looking at the second additional image.
Just realized that also I have CEON URI rewrite installed, neither the images nor bmz_cache directories are currently bypassed by the .htaccess file. Um, things I have tried have been to swap the sequence of pictures, but it is always the photo that is currently last that will work while the others will not. I have also tried using microsoft paint to open and resave the files as JPG files to see if there was some background code that is affecting the presentation of the pictures. So, if I put the picture that is currently the last photo as the first, I can click on the photo and it will show as large in the light box, but neither of the other two will show at all (on hover or click). I have also tried renaming the files prior to upload and as part of first assignment.
If you goto http://www.pugsugottasave.org/shop/Donation and look through to Holly and Growler and hover over the image you will see the same issue described about hover not presenting the photo. I do not seem to have this on any other photos.
What other info might be of benefit? I don't have any error logs on the issue as shown through the Display Debug logs addin. I have also only assigned a maximum dimension for the width of my large photos. Didn't try assigning only a maximum height yet. (Previously had both max width and height assigned.)

Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread
Nevermind, I finally figured it out.
In my .htaccess I had allow and deny rules that escaped extensions of jpg, gif, png, etc...; however, they did not escape JPG, GIF, PNG, ETC...
As a result, although one of the files was able to "make it through", the others that for whatever reason do not show up as being in the bmz_cache directory, and were in fact in the images directory were not being presented forward from the server.
Problem fixed... Whew. Didn't think it was directly related to the programming, but wasn't sure what oddity was being introduced to prevent Image Handler from doing its thing. Still not sure why the files don't show up as being from the bmz_cache directory, but really more concerned about all of these great addons working for our visitor(s).

Hopefully you're working towards converting your images to use lowercase names, since that's the contemporary approach these days.

**nods in agreement** and there's a ton of free programs out there that can handle bulk image renaming in short order..

Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread
Yeah, as a result I went into my products database to see how many had the all uppercase extension. (From whence this came I don't know.) Don't have too many and was considering using a RegEx expression with a SQL query to replace it, but almost seems like it would take me longer to "remember" how to construct the two attributes than it would be for me to manually modify them. Fortunately our store isn't large; however, I do need to figure out how to not have this happen again after I have fixed them and then restore the .htaccess file to only address lower case extensions.
