Best thing to do is to add a product of your own with all the details, then download an EP file.
Remember, you must have the category structure in place before you upload product data - well, you don't HAVE to, but you won't see the categories/products if you don't. :wink2:

Just as a bit of extra info, I have found that if you have any apostrophes without a / in front of them like /' so in your item titles or description, you also get this problem, so just check for that.

i need to add the following fields to the upload file and i'll be in seventh heaven:
product quantity minimum
product quantity units
i did a search and saw a post from june 2006 that said this would be added soon to easy populate. i have tried to add the fields but they did not show up when i uploaded the file. everything else did so i know the upload was successful.
here's the field names i added
v_products_quantity_order_min
v_products_quantity_order_units
are these the correct file names?
i have the standard version. does this make a difference?
am using ZC 1.3.7

You need to look at the advance version of EP as the standard version will not do this but I am not sure if it does the fields you are asking for?

It's how I set up my products. I had 1 entered the old way (I'd been playing back and forth a bunch of times directly in the Admin catalog area to figure it out), then downloaded a .txt file, so I saw how it put each field in what column, then added categories and subcategories (some 4-5 levels down) into the blank columns on the .txt file. Okay, I got easy populate working great except the images for the products aren't showing up. They are there...they exist on the server....the image name is entered into the db being uploaded....but after importing it only gives us the "no image" picture. I look in the mysql db and that's all there is...none of the named images made into the db. Any ideas?
Never mind! Found out what was wrong!
Whenever this happens, it's worth posting the answer for the benefit of others, no matter how basic, daft or embarrassing you think it may be :D - I'm guessing you had the wrong path for the images in EP? Or a lowercase/uppercase issue?Quote:

using ep 1.2.5.4 can't download attributes. system keeps giving can't find page. i assume it's to big and it times out. is there way to change the time or to do a split download, could i take my .txt that i got downloaded last week and add the new attributes to it and up load?? and when(hopefully soon) i up grade to ep3.0 pro will i still have this problem??:cry: any sugesstons would be great.. other than that it works like a charm:D

and then ftp to your pc.

That is correct.. make sure you uploaded all files into correct folder/s, create folder named temp and chmod it to 777.. easypopulate sql file should run when you first click on admin/tools link to easy populate..Quote:

I must be using the wrong search technique because I'm sure I've seen this before...
Anybody suggest why EP would suddenly start generating files with all the column headings in a single column and all the data in that column?

My product descriptions contain a table.

When I open the file in excel, it maps this table's cells onto it's cells so that the product description takes up lots of cells. How do I make it so that one cell contains the entire product description, html and all.

Copy all cells/columns to merge..paste into a new text document as unformatted text,Quote:

CHECK.. then remove columns/cells not required..
as always, backup everything important before you attempt this,
and suggest you try one single product first NOT all of them...
Thanks for the advice, but unless I'm missing something, I'd have to do this for every product I have since each description is spread across multiple rows and columns. Also, it appears that I lose all of my html tags when I paste as unformatted text.
Fortunately, I think I just figured it out. I bypassed the automatic formatting by selecting Data > Text to Columns. This brought up the import box that for some reason was being bypassed at all other times. Now the entire description resides in one cell, tags and all.

If I edit my descriptions in Excel, and in the process rearrange the order of the products, then when I reupload it will it still have the same location so that the search engines will still link to it?

Have a question about price columns. I know that there is a Normal price column and a specials price column. Now my question is is the some kind of intergration needed to use with profit and margin, so I can do all of the percentages and cost of products before I submit it to my site. Maybe I am just missing something but have look twice on this. Please advise.

sellfourless, you manage pricing using Easy Populate the same way you do with Zen Cart., with the only difference being that Easy Populate gives you the choice of managing the product price with tax included if you wish.
Specials pricing upload as is and will override the product price.

I am looking to import Meta tags and descriptions for over 5000 products, in to my site via EP, is there a way that l can import them via Excel and if so, would l need a script in EP to do that.
As it would take me along time to do them one by one. I have seen and read EP advanced and think it is what l am after, but for now, advanced is not needed.
And unfortunaly funds are very tight. sorry to say
You can use excel to input the info into EP format. I always open the .txt files with Excel because it's easier to work with. The file just has to be saved as a .txt file before you can import it.Quote:

Easy populate standard requires unique product number for every individual product..it is possible to add product details price, etc, seperate to attributes...best to install, download file/s to show your existing products.. go from there...Quote:

Not to interupt but I have posted this in another 2 threads and can't get an answer. Heres what I need to know.
I have 2 mods EP standard and Profit Margin.
I have read a couple of threads saying that you can do the Cost Price and Percentage in EP but not sure how.
I have tried to do this but I have only the standard settings in EP. No where does it say V_Cost_Price or V_Precentage.
If a person wanted to added these to automatically fill in where would they start.

I am new to easy populate, and in fact new to ZC.
I have worked out how to setup the file to import my products, but the site operates without product images at all. When I import the products they have no image defined (field is blank), but I get the no image image for every product after the upload.
I guess I am missing something here. How do I prevent any product images from displaying, including the no image image?

sellfourless - standard EP does not support these fields, you would need to have a look at Advanced EP but I am not sure if this is included. Have a look at Langer site it should tell you what fields it will include.
FredZ - Set your Product Image - No Image picture in Admin>Conf>Images to blank and that should fix the issue.

I note that if I manually edit any product to remove the no image picture then "Download Complete tab-delimited .txt file to edit" I can see that the product I edited has nothing in the "v_products_image" where all the rest have "no_picture.gif". Try removing/renaming the no_image.gif, thus Zencart will not see the file! Not the best fix but may work!
Edit probally wont, but are you saw that your web browser may just be not reading the updated page ! Clear the history and check !!
Right i have downlaoded easy populate and then downlaoded the complete tab. I try to open it in Open Office Calc *OO version of excel* and it doenst load in it it openes OO Writer.
Any ideas guys as im 100% against micrsoft products where i can help it :D plus OO is free.
I have ran into this before with OO. Usually if I rename my file with a .xls at the end, OO will open it in the spreadsheet app.

Open Office is a real pain with txt file so I have found, its is not as straight forward as Excel, but I love using open source software.
Easy populate indexes off the model number....So if you have duplicate model numbers in the list.....

I am able to get into easy populate with no issues, but for some reason when I attempt to generate the store template, it collapses and I get that easypopulate.php download open option showing up. I already used easpopualte_test.php but their are no orphaned products showing up. And I actually of significantly less products now.

If I add a feild to EZP, will it automatically be added to the product database? I would like to attach a supplier to the product(s) because I purchase from several. The supplier information would not have to be visable to the public. Just from the admin panel.
Hi there i have installed EP and have tried to upoad the sample output file it says it done it and there is northing there?.I am totally new to this and have been given a stock list from my wifes supplier in excel and really don't have any ideal what i am doing and if i am doing what i am doing right!!! 1. Insert category into zencart, then a product into that category,
with all necessary info i.e. description, price etc etc
2. Then generate easypopulate file , via admin easy populate, which will give you necessary example to work with..

I have around 7000 items coming out of Quick Books directly into an excel spreedsheet that is all setup and can be imported into Zen carts with no real problems using easy populate.
The only problem i reall yhave at the moment is the live status of products...
On the spreadsheet, this field is blank unless we have updated the QB custom field setup for this. Basically we dont want to have to go thrgohu every single item and add the 0 to make it not live.
I dont want to directly edit the spreadsheet because this we get updated from quickbooks.
So, is there a way to make the default value 0 when no value is added, this is what it does for the tax feild...

Greybeard - Don't really understand your issue, surely the easiest way is just to insert the column in your spreadsheet with '0'.
Other than that you would need to code a script to do this :unsure: for you.
Do you mean to up date your QB program ? or Easypopulate file, because each time you do a export from QB as a guess it will overwrite the txt file anyway, not a open and update the txt file.(might be wrong with that comment )
I use Python a lot to do csv and txt file stuff and it is very easy to learn this would be one angle to work at :bigups:
I just wanted to say thanks to Langer!!!! I spent a few days struggling to make osc EP work... A total waste of time so I decided to move to Zen Cart, I installed EP and it worked!!! 1st try.

I am getting this error using Easy Populate
No model field in record. This line was not imported
If I am understanding this correctly, the model field is only used if you choose attribute pricing. I do not use any attribute pricing. The Product_Model field is blank for all products when I downloaded the file from the admin Easy Populate module.
If you do not use attribute pricing are you forced to put something in the field to get EP to work? I tried deleting the column and uploading the file and it gave me the same error.

You need a unique product value for each product in the "v_products_model" field whether you use attribute pricing or not,other wise EP will not import.

I'm getting something new here.
I upload my files to the temp/ like I am supposed to, then I go to the easy populate page in admin - After a few minutes it just returns a blank page.
happens when I use the:

Hey all. I was wondering if I could get a little hand here.
I needed to add 2 extra "description" fields to my products page. I did that, no problem - works like a charm.
I needed to edit the Easy Populate contribution to recognize and import/export these two new database fields.
Exporting? Check - no problem.
Importing is another issue.
I've tried several different ways of adding in the two new fields to the Easy Populate fields, but my syntax is all wrong, because either nothing happens at all, or I get a"foreach" error. I've narrowed the code I need to edit down to these areas...

Would anyone happen to know what I'm missing/proper syntax to get those two extra fields to import the information properly? (Yes, "products_description2" and "products_description3" are the correct field names that are in my database table - and where you see that in the above code is where I've added it myself. As I said, I can get them to export fine 'n' dandy. I just need a little nudge for the import!)

Nevermind - the stuff above *is* right.
It would help if I actually put text into the excel file that I want to appear in the new fields. No wonder nothing was passing - I didn't put anything in the file to pass.

Currently Using Easy Populate Standard. Everything work well on first upload and try and is proving very useful.
Am curious about two things:
1) would be nice to have a pre-flight type tool to check for problem areas like duplicate model names, and anything else that may cause update issues.
2) i see you plan on supporting quantity price breaks in a future update of the advanced version. How close are you to posting this? 90% of our 4000+ products have multiple price breaks based on quantity. Would definitely buy the advance version this feature alone.

i love easy populate. i have thousands of items to deal with. i've been using EP for over a year i think and then all of a sudden it just stopped working but i'm not sure how to trouble-shoot it. i tried uploading my new inventory txt file from the browser and also loading it from the temp file and no dice. i tried uninstalling EP in order to reinstall it and following the instructions here:

it claims to have 'installed' EP! no matter how i try to cram the new inventory into the cart, the browser just times out. the file size is only 137k and is less than half of what it usually was. :lamo: any ideas?

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks or so ago, I could not download the attributes file, and it would not download to the temp folder.
I also had an issue at the same time that my page 3 of 3 payment page was hanging if I used Cheque/Cash payment way.
If you have not changed any files to do with EP I would contact your hosting company as my problem was a hosting issue, it took some sorting as the hosting company said they had not changed anything in the period of time I was experiencing the problem. But after badgering them, I stressed I had not changed any files and I had reinstalled the files not working so they could not be corrupted files , that it had to be a hosting issue, they did some more testing and it all started to work again without problems.:clap:

I have a question about the Complete tab-delimited .txt
What should i fill out and were? ( i am building the new shop in 1.3.7 )
In my current shop (1.2.6 ) i use the following fields ( not using easy populate ):
Product name
Taxable goods
price netto
priice bruto
Description
In stock
Product model
product image
sort order
But for some of the items i use the attribute controler cause i have 1 item with different quantity pricing.
Were and how can i use this in the txt file.
I have also downloaded the discount contribute. Which i thought could be better /easier than the Attribute controler…
Is it possible to use this in the txt file.
If so how and were.
Or is there an other way to add more prices for different quantities for 1 product in the txt file?

Have been sniffing around for a while (days) and still have no clear answer as to whether this mod can eezy update attributes?
I dont want to install uneccesary mods as my store is live.(i.e just for the sake of seeing it in action).
Most of my products are priced by attributes and its becoming a real mission to update them.
Using this mod they way i think it is means i will be able to only update about 30% of my products.
Is this the mod i'm looking for?
Shall i keep looking?
Or is this something for the Commercial help wanted?

Well I have been using Easy Populate for a while, but when I went to add a load more products (about 300)
It wont show the new products, there is about 1300 on there now but no new ones, any ideas?
I recently installed Easy Populate Standard. When I checked out the mod website, it said that the latest version should work. However, there are only 2 available downloads and the most recent is from Jan2006.
Is there a more recent version of Standard?
My server is running PHP5 by the way.
The info on the website said that the PHP5 conflict was resolved, but on the download page it said it was not.

I've got tons of illegal characters in the description field of each item in the froogle feed file it creates, as reported by Google when I upload the file. I'm using version 1.2.5.4. Any suggestions? They're things like the trademark logo, dashes, quote marks, etc. I'm doing a find-and-replace on each one I find, but there are dozens and dozens of different illegal characters. Maybe a future feature in EP that'll replace the illegal characters with legal ones?

I would like to have different folders in /images folder so that when I add the picture of each brand from the admin, it goes directly to the respective folder. At the moment, all the pictures get added into /image folder by default and hence the folder is getting too big. I have figured out how to do this manually when adding a product. What if I want to do this in Easy Populate? At the moment, I only have to put in the picture filenames in the field called v_products_image and all the pictures will automatically go into /image folder. I want the pictures to go into /image/SUB_FOLDERS rather than the default directory. How do I do that please?

No. The descriptions were copied from web pages, and instead of inserting the regular characters for punctuation it put in weird characters. If EP can't do it, then the next solution is to fix them in the database itself, but it would take an entire day or two for me to figure out where all those characters are.Quote:

Just a quick note if you are having problems running Easy Populate.
Set the permissions on the "TEMP" folder to 777 rather than 700.

I've tried this command:

but phpmyadmin gives me some bogus error about an unclosed quote. I tried it with a different string instead of "°" that it wouldn't find, and it correctly executed. This tells me that mysql won't take the "°" character in a query. How, then, do I replace it? I need to change a lot of characters in this way to make them acceptable for Google Products.
Easy Populate shows up twice at the bottom of my Configuration menu..where do I get rid of the extra?
I figured out the illegal character thing. There's a setting for the bulk upload file in the Google Products console for the character encoding. I changed it from UTF-8 to Latin-1, which allows those characters.

After reading about easy populate returning a blank page - I checked with my host. If you are uploading via easy populate and it returns a blank page it is because your browser has timed out cause easy populate does not send anything window - your host can change that. Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in....
Now I'm getting something new - I have upload the feed via Upload EP File & Import from Temp Dir (temp/) all works fine, I even get:

I'm looking for some advice. I'm using Easy Populate, and it seems to be working great.
The problem I'm seeing is in Excel the Description is cut off. So I tried Open Office, and Easy Populate won't use the files it creates. There's extra characters at the end of each field. I haven't changed any of the settings in Open Office so if anyone knows how to get Open Office working with Easy Populate I'd appreciate it.

I want the full description to upload, and Open Office will show the full description. Excel on the other hand cuts off at 256 characters.
I did get easy populate to load, and split one file using open office, but it did not see the "EOREOR" at the end of the row and only updated one item for the entire file uploaded.
I know it's got to be something simple, but for the life of me I can't see why it doesn't work.
I can save the upload file using open office, and it won't work. Then take that file and open it in excel and re-save it, and it will work.
