Auction Product Type

Is anybody else having problems with the sideboxes on the right side doubling up when viewing the auction product while logged in as a customer? This happens in IE8 and not firefox.

However, When not logged in as a customer page layout looks fine in both IE8 and Firefox.

Depending on if you are logged in or not and if the item has bids or not I get different validation errors viewing the Auction product.

For example.

Not logged in as a customer looks fine in both browsers but gets a validation error wether or not items have or do not have bids.

I see you updated which file you had available for download at your website from 1.2a to 1.2b.

Though both of our solutions will keep max bids at bay they are radically different in approach. Because of this I plan on submitting my modified version of the auction product type to zen-cart as an alternative to the original.

I present no disrespect to you or your works only a new view to an existing add on.

Thanks for your efforts. Without people making changes zen-cart wouldn't have evolved to what it is today.

I've reworked the template altogether and continue to make changes. Because of these changes I plan on submitting the auction product type I'm working on as an alternative to the original.

Hello everyone

I am a new user of Zen Cart and love it. I downloaded the Auction Product Type module, got it installed and running. I have 1 problem though. My products all have attributes and when I convert them to auction type product they loose all their attributes, or so it seems. The customer is unable to view the attributes selection when purchasing the item. It just displays the normal auction window, count down timer, buy now, minimum bid increase, all those things but no attributes. How can I get the attributes back?

When I go to the attributes manager, the product is still setup with all the attributes, it just does not want to display them.

The auction product type is not set up to allow attributes. Attributes could potentially change the items price thus defeating the purpose of bidding for an item. If you have attributes for an item you have up for auction that don't require a price change you could just put it into your description and request the winning bidder to request the attribute they wanted during checkout.

It would be interesting to add an attributes feature to the auction product type so as long as it did not change the price of the item.

On another note not related to this post:
I have noticed as well that winning bid emails aren't being sent out. Outbid emails are but not winning loosing emails.

I like this module, but I have one question: let's say the bid increment is 1,00 euro, and I place my maximum bid, which is 10,00 euro higher then the current bid, does the module add 1,00 euro to the current bid or 10,00 euro ?

I to am looking for some code which will allow a max bid to be entered, eBay style.

Where bidders can set their max bid and the new bid for that buyer will simply be the current bid + the min bid increase.

Any suggestions or help?

Does anyone know if this mod has any problem working with downloadable products?

I am currently using: v1.3.9c of Zen Cart and have been testing the mod with help from my web host manager. We now can tell that the cron job is firing, but we get the error:

PHP Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class productAuction in /home/villscom/public_html/includes/classes/class.productauction.php on line 17

Can anyone give me a clue how to fix. Everything else seem to work well and I really want this to work to help our sales and general sales interest.

I'm having a bit of trouble with the Auction Product type add-on -- in particular, the divs on the product display.

What's happening is that there seems to be a missing </div>, resulting in the product page being thrown off when the error for a bid that's not high enough shows.

I already fixed one missing div problem doing the same thing on the main display of the product, but I can't locate the div this time.

A little hard to explain, so I've included some screenshots below.

Something appears to have not copied across properly as I am getting titles displayed as "BOX_INFORMATION_AUCTION" in the Information sidebox, "BOX_HEADING_AUCTION" as the auction box heading, and lots more.
Any guidance as to what file hasn't copied across properly or where to set up the proper titles for the titles.

ZC version 1.3.9, Auction Product Type 1.2b

An attempt to use the cron job did not succeed, despite the cache showing apparent success with the use of wget. So I set the use cron values to 0 in Auction Manager and checked the config file to make sure it was set 0 there also.

I do get outbid emails instantly, but no winner or loser emails are sent out. Sendmail -f works fine for everything else in Zencart.

Where are the specific files that trigger the emails being sent? Are they perhaps using the wrong email protocol, or do they use Zencart's default?

I understand that in the absence of a cron job, emails are triggered by a page load, which I have done after the close of the auctions.

Also, is there any way to get auctions to end on the minute rather than on the hour?

Help here would be awesome so I can just get winner and loser emails successfully sending. Payment is possible for someone who can come in and set up the cron job properly to optimize the site.

I should add that in Auctions Manager, it shows the ended auctions as not having ended, and the columns are weirdly offset in Auctions Manager. Screenshot included.

It's also not showing the pay now button to the highest bidder when that account is logged in.

I have the exact same issue. Outbid emails are generated quickly, but auction close is never detected and doesn't show as closed in Extras > Auction Manager.

I've tried it both with and without the cron job, which *seems* to be running successfully according to the cache files, except that it doesn't close any auctions.

\auto_loaders\config.auction.php is in the right place and intact. I have not installed any versions except 1.2b.

Someone who was supposedly experienced in ZenCart, PHP and setting cron jobs told me that the fix was to comment out line 17 in the cron job:

//require(DIR_WS_CLASSES . 'class.productauction.php');

I think they're mistaken and this is a very bad idea. Doing this achieved successful detection of auction closure once, but only once; further auctions are not detected as closed.

I think the problem is that the auction module is not fully integrated with the built-in calendar in admin.

I've been testing my close-to-launch site all afternoon, and have discovered that the auction module does know when the auction ends, since it ends the bidding, recognizes the winner, produces a "pay now" button, etc. The problem is that it doesn't inform the auction manager, nor does it send an e-mail to the site administrator. Those functions can be added, but I don't have time right now.

I find these issues irritating, but they don't keep the auction module from working.

I fixed some things I found today, including disabling the display of the reserve price that's been set. That defeats the point of having a reserve price.

If anybody has found a way to set a start date for a product to go up for bid, please sing out.

I have an auction site up and running and I also had an issue with the auction manager not sending emails.
There is one very important thing that can mess up the whole auction: there has to be at least ONE DAY difference between the date you put up an article for auction and the ending date. You can never put up an article at let's say 14.00 today and have it end today, it will not close immediately if you do so but in the auction manager it fails to send out e-mails. I encountered the very same problems when configuring the website. Once you make sure that you put up articles for the next day or further in the future your problem is solved.
This means that you can set up an article tonight at 23.00 and have it expire tomorrow at 0.00 or 1.00. There is only 2 hours difference but these are two different dates.

And also pay close attention to this : you can never ALTER or change an article that expires that same day, the system will see it as a new article and you have the same problem as when you put up an article for starting and ending the same day.

One last bug to squash, prior to launch:

In the e-mail sent at close of auction, the subject line is supposed to include the name of the product, dynamically generated, just as it is in the body of the e-mail.

While it's working just fine in the body, the subject line says this:

Re: Your Auction Bid for - %s

Anybody else have this problem, or know of a solution?

Discovered another issue: There is a huge delay between the ending of the auction on the front end (I have the countdown clock working), and the back end recognition of that fact. The front end will count down and state that the auction has ended, and if you are logged in, it will tell you to Pay Now. However, Auction Manager does not reflect that the auction is over, and does not send e-mail, until hours later (or maybe the next day).

Is there any way to make the program send the e-mail as soon as the auction ends?

Hi Rob,

Yes, the Auction Manager states that the auction is closed. But on my website it doesn't close or send e-mails unless someone visits the website since I do not use cronjob.

Regarding setting a future date : I tried using the "expected products" tool, but that doesn't do the trick. Best solution I can come up with is to make a category for upcoming or expected products.

Yes, I had the same problem. I solved it simply by changing the subject line to : Your Auction Bid on Website Name. In the body the name of the product is stated, so I thought this was the easiest way.

That is strange. On my website there is no delay. When the auction closes on the front end the back end will close also and send e-mails etc.
Do you also encounter this delay when you place bids with 2 different accounts (so you can outbid yourself) and the Auction Manager is forced to send outbid e-mail?

I'm wondering if the auction module is reading the actual server clock. One weird twist: Even if the expiration is set for, say, 13:00, the front end countdown clock will state that the auction ends at 13:05:00.

Is there a place to set the time zone in this module?

On outbidding myself: Yes, I've done that, and the outbid e-mails work just fine.

I had several test auctions that started yesterday, end at noon today, and they all sent e-mail to me, either as loser or winner, at 12:52.

It would be the easiest way if the bidder was only bidding on one item, and all of the auctions did not end on the same day. Not the case on my site.

Also, if you hack a file just to make the auction work on your site, what happens when an update comes along, and that hacked file is overwritten by a file that does not contain that hack?

I have some auctions running on my site. It appears on the main auctions listing that the 'current bid' is actually the first bid or the starting price if there isn't a first bid, not the current bid at all.

Is there a way of getting it show the actual current bid? Or if that is impossible I guess it would be better to change it to 'starting bid' or something? (if you could point me in the right direction for that if that is what needs to be done that would be great), but as I have a number of auctions I'd really like to be able to see where bidding is at on the items page.
Or not display the price at all?

ADDING TO THE ABOVE I have changed the text now on the product listing page to say Starting Bid as that's what it appears to be displaying but I would love to know if I can get it to display the current bid (which as that was the original text I was thinking it is possible?)

The sidebox seems to be displaying the correct current bid (though I'm sure it wasn't when I was testing and that's why I turned off it displaying the price). It calls for $auction_current_bid

As does the product_listing.php file (in includes/modules/your template/ )
This being the code: (note the text change from Current Bid to Starting Bid that I edited so it at least wasn't confusing people)

There may be more .... suggestions welcome.

That's great news! I have an auction site running, and there are some additional bugs to squash, plus some features that would be nice to have.

Bug/Improvement 1: Setting the auction start date/time. The auction product form in the back office has a calendar for when the product becomes available. Naturally, I assumed that if I set a date for the auction to begin for that product, the product would not be up for bid until that start date. However, the auction mod ignores the start date, and unless you mark it as out of stock, the product is available for bid immediately. It would be nice if people could browse the upcoming auction items, but not be able to bid until the appointed date and time.

Bug 2: Moving a product from auction to fixed price, or fixed price to auction. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this, short of manually deleting the product, and then manually adding it back in. You can use the "move" function, but that merely moves the product from one category to another, while maintaining its fixed or auction characteristics.

Bug 3: Price field in product info form has too many decimal places.

Just installed this package. It works without any noticable issues as yet, however it has altered the layout of the general non auction product pages.

It used to be that when viewing a product category it would display 2 columns of products, now it is a single product column, although the system is still set to 2 columns, also the Auction table header for the module displays on every product listing page at the top, just below the filter section?

Hi there new to Zen and looking for a bit of much needed help with the Auction. I have installed all the files and ran the SQL patch. In Admin everything seems fine except there is no sidebox option and when I have added a product to the Auction category and included reserve price etc nothing will display on my site. No auction display, no sideboxes or auction info of any kind? I've looked again and again at the installation guide and tried reinstalling already. As I have said auction manager etc is there in Admin so I just cannot find where I have gone wrong http://www.proquip.ie/index.php?main...&products_id=1 If anyone can help I would really really appreciate it

I need to disable the "units in stock" listing on the auction page, so it does not show this value at all. Disabling it in the rest of the cart doesn't seem to affect the auction converted products. Any ideas?

I found the solution in Catalog - Product Types - Auction - Page Layout.

This said, there's some odd empty space displaying on the page, with five or six blank lines between the starting bid and the minimum bid increase, and more blank lines between the "log in to place bid" button and the description. Any way to shorten this up and remove some of the blank lines?

I did some more research on my test site which is local and saw that if I go to Catalog - Categories/Products and select my Auction category and select Propducts- Auctions and can enter the information for the auction but stil have no AUction Manager. what happened, why can't I get the Auction Manager to load?

if you read te documentation in the Installation area of the documentation, there is a reference of what do do after it is installed and definitey makes reference to Configuration- Product AUctions. I also examined the Configuration_types table of the database and sw the installation sql added a Product AUctions to the table.

My point was that there is no SQL to update admin_pages table. This is required in 1.5.x to allow for authorisation of pages, including new configuration sections.

Without that, you WILL NOT be able to see the added configuration section or any other admin pages added by the plugin.

I'm having exactly the same problem, and the downloaded I downloaded said it was compatible with 1.5.

I can add auction items but after following installation instructions and double checking that all the file uploads are in the right places, no option appears in the configuration menu for Product Auction.

If it is a matter of including more in the patch to add the data needed then that would be nice to know. Also when that might happen.

And I have an old test version of 1.3.9f and I do have an Auction Manager (this must be the "Product Auction" option referred to in the documentation) as it seems identical to the config options shown there.

After spending about 4 hours yesterday going through and adding code, i finally have it working on 1.5.1. Just going to spend some time testing it now. The author will no doubt update it at some point hopefully

None of my business here but you may want to listen to what Wilt is saying. There are reasons why he is usually right :-)

Zen 1.5 upwards have an improved security system which includes a system similar to the old 'admin pages' module. It stops admin items appearing if they are not registered for that user. In other words to see an admin menu item a corresponding entry has to exist in the 'admin pages' table of the database. This entry should be created during the install of the module - but in this case is not.

Your options are :
-- rewrite the install process
-- add the entry directly into the database using phpMyAdmin or similar
-- use the 'Admin Page Registration' function that exists in admin access management >> admin page registration

There is plenty of information on the forum about how to do this.

Guys, thanks for the hard work you have put into this issue...Unfortunately, I have tried to follow all the tips mentioned to instlall Product Auction in Zen Cart v 1.5.1 and only have mixed success.

I was finally, after creating a missing file, and getting the auctions manager page to register, to see Auctions Manager in the configuration menu. BUT, the page only lists products, and does not have admin controls as shown in the illustration that came with the install documantation.

I figure that I have not done everything right, but cannot figure it out. I am new to Zen Cart, php, and ecommerce. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I download the product auction type to Zen Cart 151, the auction manager and the product auction is not showing in the admin configuration group. I tried adding the pages to the Admin Page Registration and get these errors The language key entered has not been defined. Please check that it has been spelt correctly.

I took the auction module and made it compatible to Zen Cart v1.5.0. De-installed and re-installed several times with an existing Zen Cart store with other modules as well as with fresh new Zen Cart installs. The module seems to be working great.
The class file needed some tweaking as the cron jobs didn't really work for me.
Here is my configuration:
Zen Cart v1.5.0
PHP v5.3.10
SQL v5.5.2

In addition to adding code, I made several changes to the product page, product list view, and the sidebox.
The update will be available in the Plugin area under Product Types once approved.

I noticed there was an issue in the SQL install script of the Auction module v2.0. The SQL installation was not able to complete w/o errors. Line 116 of the SQL install script was missing a single quote towards the end of the line.

Sorry folks.

Unzipped the files etc. Copied the auctions sql file thru notepad to the "install sql patches" portion under tools. When I run this script I get the following error....
WARNING: An Error occurred, please refresh the page and try again...

This is the first step so I have not gone any further...I am using version 1.51..

I double checked, and the install script works even after uninstall and re-install. If you had the previous version of the product auction module installed, run the uninstall script (the one from the newest version), and then rund the new install script again.

If someone clicks Buy Now, and then continues shopping and goes back and clicks Buy Now again it increments the quantity in the cart, any ideas on how to prevent that from happening.

Also there is no delete option in the Cart to remove the item should the shopper decide to not continue with a Buy Now option.

Hi George,

if the Buy Now option is enabled, it will allow adding the product multiple times to the cart. Zen Cart updates the product quantity when the checkout process completes. Until then, the item is still "available" for adding to the cart.

The Buy Now option is a bit sticky for the auction products, because it will require a lot more coding:
- the acution needs to be closed prior to the actual end date/time
- there is an extra email required to notify all bidders that the auction closed due to a "buy now"
- if the auction closes with the regular end date/time, there needs to be a system routine to remove the item from a customer's cart if it was added as "buy now", but not checked out

For the issue with the delete option after the item was added to the cart through "Buy Now", please open the following file:
/includes/modules/page/shopping_cart/header.php and go to line 103.

Replace the following 4 lines:
if ($p_type_2 == 'product_auction' && AUCTION_INFO_DISPLAY_CART_REMOVE == '0') {
$buttonDelete = false;
$checkBoxDelete = false;
}

With this code:

For some strange reason, this does now work for my site...nothing new added or deleted. Have been trying to correct the INFO BOX issue though. When I merge and even go line by line etc. I end up with the graphic/ I have also included the 2 php files which I am merging...1 is the one to merge thru auction pricing, and the other is my information.php prior to adding the auction plug-in

Any help again would be greatly appreciated. I have used winmerge, as well as araxis merge, bluefish, and even notepad, all with the same result.

Can you please help me? I have installed your module and it just has a few issues that i need help with. If you select taxable in the product list when adding a new item, when someone goes to bid, it shows the the start price not the taxable price. So each time you try to add a bid it states bid to low. This is fine but if it does not show the taxable price as the starting bid how is someone to no what to start the bid at? If i do select taxable and place a bid above the taxable price, (i know what the bid is only because i listed the item) it reverts back to the base price when added. viewable: http://mightythrifty.com

The buynow shows the correct taxable price.

if you want to add sales tax to your auction items, you can create a new Tax Class under Admin -> Locations/Taxes -> Tax Rates, call it something like "Tax Included" with a tax rate of 0%, and add your sales tax to the starting bid, reserve price, and buy now price. This is a workaround solution for now. I will look into this.

this actually didn't take as much effort as I thought. Below are two files attached in a ZIP file. Please replace the tpl_product_auction_info_display.php under "/includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates" and the
header.php under "/includes/modules/pages/product_auction_info".

This will then show the buy now price without tax, and calculate the new current bid without tax. Your sales tax will be added later in the shopping cart when the auction item is being checked out.

Also can you help me with the image4 handler. The products are not showing up in the admin area when adding items to the action Select a Category with Products ... Or move between the Products. The display area is not showing any of the items to add images too.

We added (and) to a file in imagehandler4 making it work with auction product type in the admin area so to display the description when adding new products to an auction. Still testing to see if anything breaks.

I have modified this module to work with an auction house that does Live auctions.. we are allowing people to submit blind bids or online bids that close 24 hours before the actual live auction in our warehouse.

I am not a great PHP programmer.. I can hack away to get things to work, etc. I understand how to interact with mysql, etc... So it's just a matter of taking apart the existing code and adding in what I need.

Before I start to write an extra part to the Auctions Manager module, I want to see if it's already done.. A short search found a request for it, but not much else.

I need to make it so it lists just the items that have bids and who bid on them... This will make it easy to make a table for the LIVE auction on the items that already have bids..

We auction about 250 to 300 items at a time and we have just started doing this.

it is possible to do by using the catogories page to get the idea from... then modifing the sql quarry. first is the normal search and sort, the second is only for products with bids.
I've had it running for some time on my site.
