First...you should consider upgrading to IH3, as it contains many improvements and was made specifically for zc139.
But your problem will exist regardless of which IH version you use if you don't follow the instructions in the readme file.
In a nutshell...you should upload your largest product image for each product and then use the IH settings in admin to tell IH how to resize & display them as medium and small.
Without a link to the image that's a problem, I can only guess at your issue...and I'm guessing your problem is that you've either uploaded a medium size image as your main product image...resulting in poor image quality upon enlargement...or you haven't properly set up your image settings in the IH settings in the admin.
So....whether or not you decide to upgrade to IH3...you've got a problem that can be solved by reading the entire readme file and following the instructions found there.
FYI - the IH3 readme is much more clear and directive than the IH2 readme. It contains screen shots with detailed set up instructions that make it very easy to use this mod...another great reason to upgrade to the latest version

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I don't know if Image Handler 2 support is still active but here goes.
I'm sure that this has happened to someone before but my search didn't get anywhere.
In Firefox and IE Compatibility View everything is OK.
In IE everything seems OK with one crazy thing.
When the page is at the top ie. not scrolled down, the Image Handler "mouseover" works OK but if you scroll down the page the mouseover does not work.
It is the same on the Featured Products sidebox on the Home page as well as the Product Listing pages and the Cross Sell images on the Product pages.
If someone could help me I would appreciate it.
My site is poolcuesexpress dot com.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
What version of IE are you experiencing the issue in
IE9 has known issues with the js in IH2 this was fixed in IH3, just download IH3, and copy the js out of that and see if it makes a diiference
so replace
/includes/templates/Cue-Express/jscript/jscript_imagehover.js
with (from the IH3 download)
/includes/templates/your_templaet/jscript/jscript_imagehover.js

Thank you for your quick reply. I am using IE9. I will try the new js this morning.
I did not realize there was a new version of IH. Maybe I will upgrade to the new version.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Not sure if anybody will see this thread but I'm having a problem and I really need some help, I need my mum's site up asap and this is stopping me. I'm using 1.3.9 and using Image Handler 2, but I'm having a problem... whenever I create a product and upload a photo from her camera (usually called something like "014.JPG), it uploads fine. However when I go to Image Handler2 in the tools section and select the product, nothing appears underneath it, whereas it worked with a different product which was called "vernon something.png"... This is what I see:
http://puu.sh/h1DB
Any ideas why this is? I'd love some help asap please, this is really frustrating me... Many thanks^^
ps- I think it might have something to do with the file extensions but I'm really not sure
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
File extensions do matter. If the products main image is a .png all additional images need to be .png.

How about if the original is a .JPG, capitalised, as are the additional images? When I have the original as a .JPG (capitalised), for some reason it doesn't appear in Image Handler2 in tools, but I'm unsure if it's due to that... any ideas? Thanks for your reply :)
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I'm not 100% sure about the capitalization. Try being consistent, either caps or lowercase, as see it if works.

That's not the issue unfortunately because if I upload the product with a .JPG, I can't even access the product on Image Handler, like in the screenshot I posted above... nothing appears, regardless of capitalisation.
Ooh! I found a solution! I just renamed an image of a product to ".png" then created the product as normal and uploaded it, and it now appears in Image Handler2! Yesssss!
One other thing - is there a way to mass rename images to .png from .JPG?
-

The issue re: file extensions was fixed in the IH3 release. It's best that you upgrade to IH3.
If you prefer to remain with IH2, you shouldn't have to change your file extensions from JPG to png. Rather...all your file extensions must be the same CASE (either JPG or jpg).
No need to make them a higher resolution PNG or png file because you can upload a jpg and tell IH to display it as a png.
Bottom line: Either -
Upgrade to IH3
OR
Keep your file extensions all lower case or upper case.
AND...no matter which of these you do...read the readme file. Particularly the configuration tab re: image settings and the troubleshooting tab re: prepare your site for growth.
Good luck and happy Zenning

Thank you kindly for your post. The problem is that all my images are .JPG, and when I have it like that, nothing at all appears in Image Handler2... if Image Handler3 solves the issue, I may have to upgrade since it'll save me a lot of frustration... thanks very much for your post.

If changing the file extension solved your issue it is likely that your images are NOT JPGs at all.. (hence why they didn't work) Lastly Unix servers see JPG and jpg as being two different things.. so as ScriptJunkie point out, your file extensions need to be consistent or you will have issues..
Suggest upgrading to IH3 anyway.. IH2 is old technology..

Agreed the images are probably not JPGs. Dothra...you mentioned uploading the images directly from your mom's camera. Windows may have named them with the JPG file extension...but that doesn't mean they are truly JPGs.
Try uploading the images to a computer and then changing the file extensions on the computer before uploading them to your server.
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Thanks for the replies guys. I will stick with IH2 for now and I can understand what you mean about the files not really being JPGs, so for now I'll just get my mum to use RenameMaster to rename files after uploading them to her computer - it's all resolved, many thanks.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Thats the recommended course of action, the old IH2 javascript doesn't work correctly with Internet Explorer 9.
IH2 is an old extension that has been replaced by IH3 (which is compatible with zencart 1.3.9x series and has other fixes as well),

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
As this is the Image Handler 2 support thread, you can start by going to the correct support thread.. (Hint: link to the correct support thread is in the readme for IH3)
Second if you read the support thread you would know that the current version does not work with Zen Cart v1.5.. (another reason why it pays to read the support threads before posting questions)

It won't make any difference if he explains what he did because you've installed an addon that doesn't work with your current version of zen cart. Additionally, you've posted in the wrong support thread.
It is clear you haven't read the instructions that came with the addon or the support thread for the addon you have installed.
Start there. Everything else is futile until you read what you need to read.

You either missed or ignored my response to your FIRST question.. ScriptJunkie is right.. it's clear you haven't read the readme which comes with IH3.. In case you miss what Script Junkie posted too (post JUST above this one), let me add this:

As folks don't seem keen to search the forum before posting questions, it seems like I need to re-post a "gentle" reminder regarding Image handler 3..

That's because Image Handler2 does not function with ZC150
You've been told this before. I'm going to have to ask you to read and pay attention to the responses to your support requests. Volunteers simply do not have the time to continuously respond to posters who won't read the replies that contain the help that was asked for.
You must install addons that match the current version of your zen cart installation....so far you've tried to install two versions of Image Handler (both designed to work with older versions of Zen Cart) into a Zen Cart 150 installation.
Suggest you read this post and subscribe to this thread and refrain from posting any more support requests until you have the appropriate addon to function with your current zc installation.
Good luck and happy zenning

Re: Animated Gifs not working due to incorrect size
Further to my problem of an animated gif not working due to its incorrect size, this is just to let you know that I found a solution to my problem at:
http://www.ashongsoft.com/product/gif-resizer.html
The only thing it did not do was preserve the transparent background it had, but turned it white. In my case, this does not matter as my page background is also white.
There may be other gif resizers out there that do preserve the transparency. Useful search words "animated gif resizer".
Cheers

a search for:

would turn up this:

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I did read the article and tutorial about the additional image. But I do not see how to go around the issue. Could anyone please help.
This is giving me headache. I realize that when the specific product image has for example "red" in it names, the product info will pull image from zen cart with naming that contain "red" even though the product are not related at all. Please check this page below for what I am seeing. I will appreciate anyone help and suggestion:

Not sure what else anyone can tell you here.. The answer is you need to rename your images. That will solve the issue so that Zen Cart doesn't grab images from one product as additional images to another..
Not to be the detail police but this really isn't caused by Image Handler and you should create a new thread on this topic.. If you want to continue discussing this, you should start a new thread on this topic..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi,
Running IH2 with ZC 1.38.
Running into an issue where product images seem to be overlapping. (notice the 2nd and 3rd images).
http://www.straightrazordesigns.com/...-toilette-50ml
I'm seeing this in multiple places, where images that were uploaded to product A are showing up under product B along with the correct images.
The images appear to have similar names (English\ Fern.jpg English\ Fern\ Soap\ in\ Bowl.jpg English\ Fern\ Soap.jpg) when they were uploaded (They had spaces in the names).
We haven't run into this before, but we just upgraded to mysql 5.x.. And I'm guessing that's a piece of it. Has anyone else run into this before?
Thanks
David

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi
I got image handler 4. There seems to be an extra 2 folder in there which isnt in the installation folder it tells you to upload.
These extra 2 folders are actually in the readme folder. Im assuming i dont upload the readme folder?
It said to read EVERYTHING in the threads but its like 700 pages and i dont have a spare week so forgive me for asking!
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Im confused
IN the readme for IH4 it says to come to THIS thread. But i just read back it says this is thread for Image Handler 2 only. So where is Image handler 4 thread? Also why is there some image and include folders in the README folder that is not meant to be uploaded?
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Image Handler 4 may only be used with Zen Cart v1.5.0. If you are using any prior version Zen Cart, then you may not use IH4.
Zen Cart v1.3.8 = Image Handler2 ONLY (this version of Zen Cart is very unsecure and should be updated immediately!!!!)
Zen Cart v1.3.9a-h = Image Handler3 ONLY (this version of Zen Cart is stable. IH3 was built specifically for ZC139
Zen Cart v1.5.0 = Image Handler4 ONLY (this version of IH is not backwards compatible with earlier versions of ZC)
No, you do not upload the readme folder and files.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
My version of the IH4 readme has no links to the IH2 support thread (this thread), so I'm not sure what you're seeing when you say the readme directs you to this thread.
The IH support thread is here: IH4 Support thread
All of the files and sub-folders in the README folder are there to make the README document render in your browswer (it is a web based document). You do not upload this folder and it's files and sub-folders into your ZC installation because they are not necessary for IH4 to function.

Clearly you have misread that section of the readme.. Re-read that entire section again.. It says come to this thread ONLY for ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.. It points to TWO very specific posts in this thread.. NO WHERE does it say this is the support thread for IH4..
From the readme section in question

Simple.. so that the readme file works.. NO WHERE in the installation instructions are ANY of the files in the readme referred to because they are NOT part of the installation files..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I've installed IH4 on my clean 1.5.0 installation and I don't know whether it's my mistake or the software simply not working but I'm fed up with trying to get it to work.
The first install, I didn't have the IH options in my Configuration panel. They just weren't there. It didn't create any resized images either. (Yes, it was set to resize images in the settings.) The Tools->IH4 menu did show up, though.
Uninstalled and installed again and now this scenario played out: the small thumbnails on the category overview showed from the bmz_cache (as I expected). The hover effect showed the same small image (quite useless in that case) - the product page showed the original image that I uploaded (no change) and it linked to a 404 xxx_LRG.jpg file that didn't exist. (Folders were chmodded to 777)
For a product that says it works out of the box, I'm not exactly diggin it.

What version of zencart are you using?
The product disabled thing is an old bug (in IH2) that doesn't actually mean anything, it is fixed in the more recent versions (or at least i am fairly sure I fixed it), as to it going back to the admin page, is an error message being generated in the yoursite/cache folder?

Clearing Bmz-Cache
How often is it necessary to clear the bmz-cache? And I read that with my version I may need to reupload its .htaccess and .keep files after clearing, but I don’t even see those in the file at all. Should I have them?
I have IH2.0, Rev8b running on ZC1.3.9h

those are invisible files which sometimes--depending on your ftp orogram--do not show up, but you should be able to see them in your c-panel file mamager.
I have not cleared mine in ages...it helps the store load images quicker for the customers and the only time I emptied that cache was when i upgraded o version for 1.3.9h...IH3
the only cache I try to keep down is the main cache folder in your stores folder...it can grow enormously.
and since you are using 1.3.9h then this should be in that versions support thread.

I don't think this might be an IH2 problem...but rather look at this line in your file for this mod:
$show_image = (@$_GET['image'] == "off") ? "off" : "on";
Did you set the word in red to on
you might also try changing this to on also
echo "<b>Display image options</b> - possible values on, off default value on<br />";
echo "image=on (on,off) <a href=\"" . $script_basepath . "?image=off" . "\" >" . $script_basepath . "?image=off" . "</a><br /><br />";
keep a copy of the original to replace if it does not work. change the duplicate to say on then reupload to your server files then test it to see if it gives results wanted. If yes great, if not then put back the original and come back for just in case it is an IH2 otherwise you may need to start a thread in "other contributions" to get better help

Re: Clearing Bmz-Cache
Hi all,
I have quite a problem with lightbox. Before installing lightbox, I installed a custom template and everything works fine.
And then I installed the latest version of lightbox and everything still works fine except the text 'larger image' appears on my main product and additional product images.
I tried to replace tpl_modules_main_product_image.php back to the old one but doesn't work.
I tried define('TEXT_CLICK_TO_ENLARGE', 'larger image');
to
define('TEXT_CLICK_TO_ENLARGE', '');
and I can't get into any pages of my website as it creates error. I put everything back to how it was and my lightbox seems to still go haywire. Whenever I enlarge an image the container fills up my whole page even though the image is smaller. And I still have the 'larger image' text.
May I know if there's any way to install the latest lightbox without overwriting the old ones in the product pages? I was trying to apply the latest lightbox to a media page i created in ezpages.

do you have IH2 installed? That is where you are posting, if you don't then you will need to go to the support thread for the lightbox mod you have installed.
That said -- have you made sure that all files are uploaded to their proper places.
which template and link to store would be extremely helpful for better help instead of guess work.

and all of that information should be posted in the right support thread (for the lightbox)

Re: Clearing Bmz-Cache
We have installed IH2 but it is not coming up in the admin/tools section. We do get the purple icon next to the products but when clicked it comes up with this:
http://seventyfourdegrees.com/image-handler.jpg
I have followed the instructions exactly and have uploaded both individually and by renaming the folders and uploading the folders fully.
Our site is located here: http://seventyfourdegrees.com/shop/i...products_id=92
Any help with this would be much appreciated thanks.

Is that a paid for template, hopefully not from template monster. I think there is a bit more that is not functioning right...cause the lightbox doesn't work either, loop of searching for image doesn't stop to show image. No hover images on promos either...unless you set images to not show hover.
Try reuploading the files to their folders again.
Try using the default template to see if it behaves then that might narrow the problems to the template you are using now.

Nope.. Won't help with locating/removing orphaned images (not the purpose of this module)
furthermore this version is VERY old and there isn't much support being given to IH2.. Recommend that you should be running the latest version of Zen Cart and the latest version of IH4..

Re: Clearing Bmz-Cache
Hi,
Can anyone help me solve why my additional images are not working? I have the check the admin - catalogue - product types - general -> true... I have uploaded my images forexample - ledspeaker1.jpg then ledspeaker.jpg and I get nothing? I'm also not using any H2/3 or H4 plug ins
-
Re: Clearing Bmz-Cache
If you are not using H2/3 or H4, I assume you mean IH (Image Handler) and not H, then why are you posting in this thread?
If you are using IH, *how* are you uploading your images?

I concur with jeking.. If you are not using Image Handler (which is what I too assume you mean by "H2/3 or H4 plug ins"), this is NOT the place to ask after how to get your additional images working.. This is the support thread for Image Handler 2. Image Handler 2 is old and largely unsupported these days. So if you ARE using it, my suggestion is to upgrade.. If you are not, then your question is still off topic and needs to be posted elsewhere..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I got a problem. Image Handler works very well in my store site, but something wrong with admin/tools/Image Handler. some product can appear in "Image manager" of Image Handler, but most product can't appear here which also works well on store site. If I choose these "abnormal" product, it will link to "admin tool" of Image Handler.
(Image Handler 4)
Thanks a lot.

this from datafeed that get info for price and images
Code:
$prod_image = function_to_get_product_image($prod_image);
//$prod_image = zen_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . $prod_image, $prod_name, IMAGE_PRODUCT_LISTING_WIDTH, IMAGE_PRODUCT_LISTING_HEIGHT, '');
//$prod_image = zen_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . $prod_image, '', '', '',

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
If you are really using ZenCart v138a then you NEED to upgrade now on your schedule versus getting hacked and having to perform a clean and an upgrade
This version has known security issues and has been replaced for over 4 years

Still do not understand your question or how it relates to Image Handler..
Secondly if you are speaking of Image Handler 4, this is not the right support thread for IH4..

If Image Handler is installed correctly it should manage the product and category images in your site.. If you are speaking of images other than your product and category images, the answer is NO Image Handler will not manage other images on your site.. It's not clear what images you are referring to and since you've not provided links to what you are specifically referring to on your site, this is the best (only) answer I can give you.

Yeah..
The solution is to use the latest version of Image Handler (this is the Image Handler 2 support thread which is OLD and UNSUPPORTED)
Oh and it helps if you say WHAT this "issue on special page" is.. (since we can't GUESS)
and if you do get the latest version of Image Handler installed, you need to post the DETAILS of your issue in the correct support thread..

Proper image names
Hi there,
I've looked through a few pages of posts and searched but can't find any info.
Has anyone been able to modify the code so that it uses the images actual name instead of the md5 hash? It would be better for SEO if it used the correct image name.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Cheers, John.

Its back to the future.... :D
The original imagehandler created images that way using the image name and _med or _lrg.
Then a BETTER way was found using the bmz functions and the hash.
Download the older version, if you can find it for inspiration.
imo: Personally you are wasting your time as lots of improvements have been made since.

Lots of debate about this.
Majority opinion seems to be its irrelevant

Thanks for the input, I'm going to give it a go. An SEO consultant we have hired has recommended it, I'll post a link to my code if I ever succeed :).

Any idea which version the change over to md5 hashes happened?

Indeed LOTS of improvements.. Going back to older versions for this ONE feature is a step back in terms of functionality for what will amount to VERY little gain IMHO..

Agreed.. I have one client who uses an "SEO Consultant". His "SEO Consultant" has NOT ONCE EVER brought this up in his recommendations.. and my client's site ranks VERY well.. and has sales just over the $1mil mark.. That's because my client's "SEO Consultant" knows that content is KING.. which means that it's all about the TEXTUAL content. Pictures help, but search engines and people read and search for TEXT..
LOTS of sites out there using the latest versions of Image Handler who also follow best practices for SEO, and their images don't stand in the way of their sites being found by their customers.

Watermarks not showing up.
My watermarks are not showing up on any images.
Zen-Cart V 1.3.9h
Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x
IH resize images no
IH small images filetype png
IH small images background 255:255:255
IH small images compression quality 85
IH small images watermark yes
IH small images zoom on hover no
IH small images zoom on hover size Medium
IH medium images filetype png
IH medium images background 255:255:255
IH medium images compression quality 85
IH medium images watermark yes
IH large images filetype png
IH large images background 255:255:255
IH large images compression quality 85
IH large images watermark yes
IH large images maximum width 800
IH large images maximum height 800
IH watermark gravity North
I made sure the watermark files were in the 3 image folders, with the correct names.
I made sure I renamed the admin folders and also the template folders correctly.
The permissions for bmz_cache are set to owner read write execute, the same as my images folder
The install seemed to go fine.
I have cleared cache an cookies and also tried 3 different browsers.
Where would you suggest I look to fix this problem. My site is sewchacha.com if you want to look at it.
thank you
Michael

This is the Image Handler 2 (ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support thread.
You are using IH3 and ZC 1.3.9h
You should post in the IH3 thread

Re: Watermarks not showing up.
I've been using IH 2 for the last few years and it works just fine. I mainly use it for additional product images (i.e. fabric swatches, alternate photos, etc.)
Here's my problem ~
The ZC site is being replaced and I need a list of images that are associated with each product. Are the alternate image names stored anywhere in the database or is there a way to compile a list of product ID & image name?

What do you mean by being replaced? Do you mean upgrading to a newer version or going to a different software?
To see what images are being used you can go to IH2 admin area and look in there for every product.....write down the image name.
Not sure if there is another way since it changes the name when caching.

The primary product image names are stored in the product table. You can derive the additional images by knowing the primary product image name. See the Zen Cart FAQs for the posts regarding the required naming conventions used to identify additional images in Zen Cart.

Re: Watermarks not showing up.
Thanks for the suggestion. I am moving to a new shopping cart and was hoping for a more automated way to gather the IH images. There are about 2,500 products so writing each one down will be a little tedious.

You won't be able to gather the IH cache images (the optimized large, med, & small images) in any kind of automated manner unless you are willing to write code to manage that conversion/automation for you, but you will be able to to gather the MAIN image associated with each product.. Hopefully your new shopping cart has a means to create alternate image sizes from the main product image (as IH does for you).

Image Handler 2 Awesome Performance
I know this is a support thread, and maybe I shouldn't post testimonials...but, I just installed IH2 on our web site, and WebPageTest shows a reduction in page size of over 60%, and performance increase of almost 40% on typical product listing pages. Easy to install, and a huge win. Many thanks.
