All support related questions for Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x should be posted on THIS support thread. The Image Handler 2 Support thread will continue to serve as the support thread for those who are not upgrading to Image Handler 3 for v1.3.x.
Any IH2 questions posted here will be (gently) re-directed back to the Image Handler 2 Support thread.(and vice versa)
Image Handler 3 v3.0 for v1.3.x
Image Handler 3, v3.0 for v1.3.x is based on an original contribution by Tim Kröger.
Why the new name??
With the guidance of the Zen Cart admins, Image Handler 3 was submitted as a NEW add-on with a new name to minimize confusion so this new CLEAN support thread could be started. The bugs/issues reported in the old support thread have been addressed in this new version, and the readme has been revamped to provide MORE information upfront to those who use this add-on which will (hopefully) address some of the usual install and configuration questions.. (versus having to search through a 5 year old support thread)
So on to the good stuff.
Here's the answers to the most frequently asked question: "What does Image Handler 3 do?"
(which BTW REALLY IS explained in detail in the readme for those who REALLY wanna know.. it doesn't hurt to download the fileset..)
Purpose & Aim
Image Handler 3 at the heart of its code is really meant to ease the management of product images (particularly the management of additional product images), and to help improve page performance by optimizing the product images.
Image Handler 3 generates product images (based on your image settings) in the Image Handler 3 bmz_cache folder. It DOES NOT replace or modify the original images. So it's PERFECTLY safe to use on an existing store.
Image Handler 3 enables you to use GD libraries or ImageMagick (if installed on your server) to generate and resize small, medium and large images on the fly on page request. You can simply upload just one image or you can have different sources for medium and large images. Image Handler 3 further enables you to watermark your images (overlay a second specific translucent image) and have medium or large images pop up when you move your mouse over a small image (fancy hover).
This contribution includes a powerful admin interface to browse your products just like you would with the Attribute Manager and upload / delete / add additional images without having to do this manually via FTP. Image Handler 3 works fine with mass update utilities like EzPopulate.
Features
- [FONT=Tahoma]Improve site performance (faster loading, faster display)[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Professional looking images (no stair-effects, smooth edges)[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Choose preferred image-types for each image size[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Uploading one image automatically creates small, medium and large images on page request[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Drops in and out seamlessly. No need to redo your images. All images are kept.[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Easy install. One-click-database-upgrade.[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Works with mass-update/-upload tools like EzPopulate.[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Watermark images to prevent competitors from stealing them.[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Fancy image hover functionality lets a larger image pop up whenever you move your mouse above a small image (switchable).[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Choose an image background color matching to match you site's color or select a transparent background for your images.[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Manage your multiple images for products easily from one page just like you do with attributes in the Products Attribute Manager.[/FONT]
Image Handler 3 is meant to ease the work required to setup images for your store. It works WITH default Zen Cart functionality, it does not replace it.
It is very strongly recommended that you read through the ENTIRE "Configuration" & "Usage" sections of the Image Handler 3 readme file. There you will find out exactly what Image Handler 3 can do.

Image Handler 3 Support Thread (BEFORE YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE)
[FONT=Tahoma]BEFORE[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma] YOU POST A SUPPORT QUESTION HERE READ THROUGH THIS SECTION (this is from the Image Handler readme file):
Troubleshooting Basics [/FONT] [FONT=Tahoma]
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]Make sure your custom template is active. (Admin > Tools > Template Selection)
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]
Make sure Image Handler 3 is installed. Admin > Tools > Image Handler3 > Admin. Set permissions in both your images and bmz_cache folders to 755 (eg: both of these folders need to have the same permissions. For some webhosts you may have to set these permissions to 777).
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]
If Image Handler 3 does not work or gives you errors:
[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Make sure all files are in correct location[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Make sure you uploaded ALL the Image Handler 3 files [/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Make sure the files are not corrupt from bad FTP transfers[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Make sure your file merge edits are correct[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]MAKE SURE YOU RE-READ THE CONFIGURATION AND USAGE SECTIONS!!![/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Make sure that there are no javascript conflicts from other programs[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Make sure that your main product image files names DO NOT contain any special characters
ie: non-alphanumeric characters such as
/ \ : ! @ # $ % ^ < > , [ ] { } & * ( ) + =
Always use proper filenaming practices when naming your images - See this document as a reference: [/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]http://www.records.ncdcr.gov/erecords/filenaming_20080508_final.pdf\[/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma]When posting bugs/issues about[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]Image Handler 3, it's a WHOLE LOT more helpful to resolve them if you post details. Just saying "it's broken" or "doesn't work" does not provide nearly enough information to help YOU resolve YOUR issue.
Please provide as MUCH information as possible including:
[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]The version of Zen Cart you are running[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]The version of Image Handler 3 you are running (you can see this by going to “Admin > Tools > Image Handler3” – the version is displayed in the upper left hand side)[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Any other add-ons you may have also installed[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Hosting/server information (PHP versions, mySQL versions, hosting provider etc)[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]The EXACT error/issue you are experiencing [/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]AND if you're REALLY detail oriented, tell us the install sequence/method you used to install Image Handler 3.[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]Post a link (not a screen print) to a specific product/product listing page where the issue you are experiencing can be seen (Please DO NOT make folks fish through your site looking for an example of your issue)
AND this last point is important.. The volunteers who help here need to SEE what you see LIVE. A screenprint really isn’t good enough.[/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma]
[/FONT] [FONT=Tahoma]And a (gentle) reminder about FREE forum support:
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]This is ain’t Microsoft folks!
(a frequently used analogy by some to compare open source projects to commercial projects)
[/FONT] [FONT=Tahoma]Like other open source projects, this support forum is manned by VOLUNTEERS (ie: unpaid folks). They are not OBLIGATED to assist here, but they do so because they WANT to. They give of their time here when their individual schedules permit. Usually the response is pretty quick 'round these parts, but when it’s not or your question has gone unanswered this may mean one of a few things:
[/FONT]
- [FONT=Tahoma]NO ONE has an answer to your question/issue.
(Some folks will only respond when they have something MEANINGFUL to say versus a blanket “I don’t know how to do that” kind of answer.)[/FONT] - [FONT=Tahoma]Folks are just busy and will answer if/when they can..
(family and other personal obligations, day jobs, paid jobs, etc will usually trump forum participation – this is to be expected – after all it’s unrealistic to expect that folks are sitting around this forum all day and night waiting to answer questions)[/FONT] - [FONT=Tahoma]Your question got missed. (and while I’m on this point) Your post MIGHT have been missed if your post is now a FEW pages back (like more than TWO or more pages) with no response.. Missed does NOT mean “it’s been an hour and no one responded to my question, so let me 'bump' the thread by re-posting my question again” [/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma]
[/FONT] [FONT=Tahoma]Anyway.. carry on.. Enjoy the new version..

Image Handler 3 Support Thread (Zen Cart and Image Management))
[FONT=Tahoma]Zen Cart and Image Management
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]Image Handler 3 is meant to ease the work required to setup images for your store.. It works WITH default Zen Cart functionality, it does not replace it.. Here's some additional FAQs which discuss how product images work in Zen Cart.
[/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma]Information on how Zen Cart identifies/manages additional product images can be found on these Zen Cart FAQs:
[/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma]Check out these FAQs and see if they help clarify how Zen Cart works with product images.
Prepare Your Site for Growth [/FONT] [FONT=Tahoma]
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]Not many users are aware that Image Handler 3 can manage the needs of a very large site as easily as it does a small one. When first building a site, the owner of a small site needs only to load images to the images folder. But when the site gets bigger and images multiply like rabbits, this can cause file naming confusions for Zen Cart and slow down the site. Preparing for your business to grow from the beginning will save you hours of work later on!
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]
Without Image Handler 3 installed, Zen Cart requires you to create, optimize, and upload three different size images for each image you want to use. You must name these images using naming suffixes, and place them in corresponding folders inside your main image folder. For example: A product called "Widget" requires images/widget.jpg (small image) images/medium/widget_MED.jpg (medium image) and images/large/widget_LRG.jpg. This is such a hassle, especially if many of your products have multiple images. And as your site grows, it becomes an impossible task!
[/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma]With Image Handler 3, you no longer have to make three sizes of the same images and place them in different folders (unless you want to)! Instead, you need upload only one image in one folder and Image Handler 3 will do the rest! Simply upload your largest highest quality image and Image Handler 3 will resize and optimize your image as needed, and serve up small, medium, or large image sizes appropriate to the page loaded - all automatically and all without actually modifying your original image file in any way! Check out the Configuration Tab of this ReadMe for more info about this awesome functionality!
[/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma]Prepare your site for growth by simply creating sub-folders in your main images folder. For example, you may want to put all your "widget" images in a folder called "widgets" and all your doodad images in a folder called "doodads" , like this:
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]Product: Blue Widget with 3 images
----------------------------------
/images/widgets/blue_widget1.jpg (main product image for a blue widget, i.e. front view)
/images/widgets/blue_widget2.jpg (additional product image for a blue widget, i.e. side view)
/images/widgets/blue_widget3.jpg (additional product image for a blue widdget, i.e. rear view)
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]Product: Red Widget with 1 image
--------------------------------
/images/widgets/red_widget.jpg (main product image for a red widget)
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]Product: Gold Doodad with 2 images
----------------------------------
/images/doodads/gold_doodad1.jpg (main product image for a gold doodad, i.e. view from above)
/images/doodads/gold_doodad2.jpg (additional product image for a gold doodad, i.e. view from side)
[/FONT][FONT=Tahoma]Product: Silver Doodad with 3 images
------------------------------------
/images/doodads/silver_doodad1.jpg (main product image for a silver doodad, i.e. product)
/images/doodads/silver_doodad2.jpg (additional product image for a silver doodad, i.e. product detail)
/images/doodads/silver_doodad3.jpg (additional product image for a silver doodad, i.e. product's silver stamp)
[/FONT]
[FONT=Tahoma]Using Image Handler 3, you can easily sort and manage thousands of images without confusion or hassle! When selecting the main image for a product in the Image Handler 3 interface, Image Handler 3 lets you pick the location for this image. This prompt disappears afterwards because Image Handler 3 knows that additional images need to be in the same folder as their main product image and handles that automatically![/FONT]

Great starter posts! This is exactly the kind of information I look for whenever I'm reviewing a mod before I download and install it :)

Thanks.. I had to work fast to get 'em posted to make sure they all appeared together..
And all of this SAME useful information is in the readme as well (why re-invent the wheel)

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Impressive posts!
Just wanted to add, that there was some documentation online at the old breakmyzencart site. I didn't download the new version so forgive me, if the info is already contained in the new documentation readme. The above site might be obsolete now but maybe there is some useful example.
Cheers

As I have stated in my previous posts leading up to this release, I have already incorporated all of the documentation from your old site into the new readme.. Some of it is obsolete, but the relevant portions needed to be included into the readme docs (and they were -- some word for word:smile:)..
I wanted to avoid the confusion of sending people to your old site because we've had folks download things from there before and come here seeking help with an outdated version of Image Handler.. (hence why we reconciled the relevant information with the previous versions of the readme)

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Is IH3 work good in flash site? For first time user, is better to install IH3 directly, or use IH2 first?

Dunno what your first question means.. Are you talking about using FLASH animations as product images??
As for your second question, in my experience I always install the latest and greatest STABLE version..
On another note, posting questions on BOTH support forums is kinda unproductive.. Asking the SAME question about two versions of the SAME software which are largely the same BASE code is redundant.. Please pick a version, download it, and read the readme for BOTH versions (or skip to the changelog of the latest to see what changed) and post your question in the appropraite support thread..
Also you might consider creating a test store and installing Image Handler so you can test it out for yourself.. You'll have a MUCH better sense about what Image Handler does if you install it, and use the readme as a guide to help you configure and use the add-on..

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread

Sounds like invalid characters in your image names.. Re-check that you image names do not include spaces or invalid characters.

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
I've just upgraded to IH3 on ZC 139H. I have no trouble uploading an image for a product.
Is there a way for IH3 to save the many images that I need to upload in their unique folders other than the images folder my main site directory? I just want to better organize my images once they are on my main site.
thanks
tc

From page 1 of this support thread (and included in the readme as well):
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...71&postcount=3
Short answer?? IH3 will not create your image folders for you.. You will need to create your image folder structure (via your FTP tool).. You can upload the additional images via FTP is your like.. So long as they are named correctly so that Zen Cart knows they are additional images, IH3 will optimize those images as well with no additonal action required on your part..
Again, re-read all the information in the readme if you need information on how to make this happen.. (which is repeated on page 1 of this support thread) We've provided LOTS of useful information and reference links to help answer all your image planning questions..

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Hi, Just uploaded IH3 and works perfectly. Being a nubie I do have a question-- is it ok to load product images through the IH3 interface instead of using ftp to the main db? The images wont be lost during a backup will they? I think what I am trying to ask is when loaded through the interface, the images are stored on the server right?

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Quick question b4 I install IH3
My server has ImageMagik installed but they have 2 verstions:
Code:
The convert path to ImageMagick, version 5 on our servers is:
/usr/bin/
The convert path to ImageMagick, version 6 on our servers is:
/usr/local/bin/
Is there anything I need to change in IH3 to make sure it works?

Yes I suspect that this giving me cache error.
Problem is that I have 30000 pictures in 50 folders and I have to find what pictures have invalid characters. :frusty:
Thanx for support!

you should just be able to run a query on your database (products table), and get it to return all products whose image has invalid characters
That should give you an idea of what quantity of product images you are dealing with

Or, if you are uncomfortable with using the database, you can use the file manager in cpanel to search for invalid characters throughout the site.

Hi Diva! Just wondering what exactly was updated in this version? Is it just a revamp or are there significant changes from IH2 to IH3? Thanks!

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Hi,
Building a new site with V1.3.9.h. Just did a fresh install of the Image Handler v3.
It's working just fine, but only from Admin>Tools.
There is no IH icon showing up in Admin>Categories/Products between the "Copy" and "Attributes" icons. Just checked to make sure all the files upload into their correct places .. all is looking good. FTP transfer seems to have gone without any probs. Tried quitting browser and re-starting ... didn't make any diff. So .... seeking someone's advice. Can just use this from the Tools tab, but would prefer to get the Categories / Product functionality working, too!
Please advise with your wisdom!

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
No magic fix.. Simple answer is that there is an issue with your install.. Double check that all the files in the "2_Required_Core_Edits" are in place..

YES! Just reinstalled all the contents of the Required_Core_Edits folder and hey presto - it's all works now! Something must've gotten corrupted in the content of the first transfer! So... actually this was the magic fix!

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
I'm adding additional image views to a product. The images are appearing below the product attributes. I would rather they appear below the description and above the attributes. Is that possible to relocate them on the page?

Your question and any subsequent discussion on how to achieve what you want is NOT related to Image Handler at all.. Image Handler does not alter or control WHERE images appear on the product page..
Haredo gave you a place to look which should get your started on answering your question.. Respectfully I must ask that if you have any additional questions on this topic that you would please start a new thread and continue any additional discussions on a separate thread..

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Hi, not sure this is the proper place for this, if not remove it. Seems to be lots of problems resizing images to the proper size without buying photoshop or some other expensive program. I found and use a free program from sourceforge called photoscale. You can make your base images any size needed to load into IH3. One at a time or a folder full. P.S.- I LOVE IH3!!

mine did that on 1 image too and all I did was open it in Photoshop then resave it "save for web" then replace it on the server and it behaved...not sure why it did it but that worked for me.
Aside from that no other program is really needed to resize images...just create them...lol
I see your IH3 is working on the sidebox image is it behaving elsewhere?

It would help if cybertai would post a link to a specific place where there is an issue and provide some better details as to what it is he thinks is not working.. It would help to SEE what he sees so folks can get a better sense of the problem... (versus rooting around his whole site guessing at stuff) Frankly based on what's been posted so far, I'm not fully clear as to what is the issue..

me too cause the few pages i went to did not have any additional images and the lightbox works on the product pages which IH3 will not work on...so yes a specific link and exactly what they expect to see would get better help

Sorry about that. Here's the link to product listings.:
http://www.qisahn.com/sony-playstati...onsole-c-33_34
And here's a link to product page:
http://www.qisahn.com/sony-playstati...rt-only-p-1598
As you can see, both the smaller images are not resize, but are hi-res images.
And the product list somehow has got 2 hover images.

I agree with nigel.. It sounds like your install is not done properly.. I STRONGLY suggest that you review your install.. Go back to the readme and review the install instructions.. Make sure that you have uploaded ALL the IH3 files and folders.. Make sure you follow the instructions for using IH3 with a lightbox add-on (there are some file merges that have to be done in a VERY specific manner -- the readme outlines how this is done for Fual Slimbox and Zen Lightbox)
Nearly ALL of the issues reported with IH3 can be traced back to incorrect installation issues or images being named incorrectly..

1) are there errors appearing in your /cache folder
2) Did you uninstall the old version of image handler from the database before installing v3
3) Admin --> tools --> admin tab --> clear image cache. Now go and check the bmz_cache is it empty?
4) Admin --> tools --> admin tab --> uninstall image handler do this then click the link to reinstall it
5) try deleting the .htaccess file in the bmz_cache folder, does this make a difference, if it does try uploading a new one from the image handler package, if it doesn't make a difference upload a new htaccess anyway.
6) what permissions are on the bmz_cache
-
Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Gotta concur with all of this.. Echos what I said earlier.. DOUBLE CHECK THE INSTALL.. Were ALL the steps followed?? My guess is that steps were omitted in the upgrade from IH2 to IH3.
IMHO, the BEST way to resolve this is to roll the store back to a state BEFORE IH3 was installed.. THEN re-do the entire IH3 upgrade and make sure that ALL UPGRADE STEPS ARE FOLLOWED!!!

Thanks Nigel! . I did uninstall the old version via admin panel before upgrading. Click clear image cache but bmz_cache still has lots of files. Did the uninstall and reinstall a couple of times already. Deleted .htaccess. Seems like no diff.
Can i just delete bmz_cache folder and create an empty folder ?

Yes, if clear image cache didn't clear bmz_cache somethings wrong there, most likely permissions
were there errors in your /cache folder
try setting the permissions to 777 if it doesn't work to see if that makes a different, make sure to stiche .htaccess in your folder to stop naughty pixies getting in

Both folders had their permission set to 777 since day one. No errors file in /cache
Any guess what is going on with my bmz_cache folder? can i just delete it ?

Using your FTP client, just manually delete the contents of the bmz_cache folder.. Leave the .htaccess and .keep files in place.. Also check that you followed the instructions for using IH3 and your lightbox contribution together.. (there are very specific changes that need to be made and instructions are included for how to achieve this for Fual Slimbox and Zen Lightbox)

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Hello,
i have a problem with my IH3 not showing small/medium images generated by IH. The problem is there is no image showing in store. If i view the source than i see this:
<img src="bmz_cache99dd46d47189e21621fb539e4f5feb7cc.image.100x68.JPG"........
The link created by IH misses "/" so correct version should be:
<img src="bmz_cache/9/9dd46d47189e21621fb539e4f5feb7cc.image.100x68.JPG".......
If i copy image source it looks like this:
http://clubdziecka.pl/bmz_cache99dd4...age.100x68.JPG
If i put "/"
http://clubdziecka.pl/bmz_cache/9/9d...age.100x68.JPG
It's working.
Why is it like that?
I'm using a fresh installation of ZenCart 1.3.9h and Image Handler 3 downloaded from zen-cart.com.
I'ts a pain since ZC 1.3.8 and IH2 for me i never managed to find the problem
IH was uploaded several times to server, bmz_cache, cahce, bmz_lock set to 777.
Cache does not have any logs.
Please help :frusty:

1) what version of PHP and mysql
2) Is magic quotes on or off
3) Is safe mode on or off
4) I have seen this happen once before a couple of years ago, but as we couldn't replicate it, we couldn't solve it.
I have never had this problem myself and quite frankly in testing image handler, i have used quite a few different servers and php versions, and provided they have met the specs it has just worked, (not much use to you I know) Are you still with the same host?
If you have average to good computer knowledge, try downloading wamp or xamp (self contained servers that you can run on windows) and do an install on there and see if it works, if it works on there, then the fault is with your server, if it doesn't work on there then something to do with your implementation is not correct.

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
actually Not sure if its connected, but looking back the previous person I remember with a problem also has a .pl domain, does Polish use non-english characters? (sorry i don't know the correct term for them), are you using any of these in the product names?
Mind you I am sure there are polish sites out there working fine so probably just coincidence

Thank you for replay
1) PHP: 5.2.17 (Zend: 2.2.0), MySQL 5.5.11-log
2) magic_quotes_gpc - on
3) safe_mode - off
i'm still with the same host
Actually we do use non english characters but right now i have only 2 products in 1 category all written without polish chars.
Can it have something to do with charset conversion:
HTTP_ACCEPT_CHARSET - ISO-8859-2,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3
_ENV["HTTP_ACCEPT_CHARSET"] - ISO-8859-2,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3
_SERVER["HTTP_ACCEPT_CHARSET"] - ISO-8859-2,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3
It really looks like it's eating forward slashes because of charset.
I will try to do download the server and test it locally.

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Hi all,
first the details of what i'm using:
Zen Cart 1.3.9f
PHP Version 5.1.6
MySQL 5.0.22
Virtual Server with Plesk 8.3 (Centos linux)
IH 3
Sice some time now all the file i upload using IH3 get a ownership/group like apache/apache.
It is fine till i use IH3 to handle all the images (deleting, adding etc.) but if i use my ftp program do try to delete files or move it, I got error (Not allowed to, permission denied), indeed the file uploaded with ftp program get ownership/group like ftp***/psacln.
The question is: How do I change the ownership/group files loaded with IH3 get?
I'm aware that this problem is not closely related to IH3, but involve server permission or whatsoever, so i apologize in advance, but i didn' found any advice on where to look for or which parameter to edit or file to change..
p.s. i can manually change ownership using virtuozzo panel.. but i have to do it one file by one.

Which is precisely why this is NOT the thread for this discussion.. Please post your question in a new thread so that we don't veer into off topic subjects on this support thread.. Suggest you also speak to your host company if you need help with permissions..

Right, so which is the right post/session for it? Cause, as i wrote before, i wasn't able to find any.
p.s. I posted it here because the problem shows when i upload files with IH3, uploading with other method doesn't produce the problem (it should be related to using php aswell, maybe...)
By the way thanks for answering.

Then simply create a new post with your question.. If a post with your specific question does not exist, you can (and SHOULD) create a new post with your question.. Not sure WHERE would be the right place on the forum for it.. Maybe the General topic area.. Dunno.. You might want to take a look at the forums top level ans see what topic looks like the most appropriate place for you to create your post..

Following the IH3 instructions the bmz_cache folder and the image folder should be set to the SAME permissions. On my test store, IH3 sets the permissions of the files inside to 666. I can delete these files with no issues at all using my FTP client..
Honestly if find you are unable to delete files uploaded using IH3, this is most likely some restriction being place upon you by your webhosting provider, and you really should speak with them as to why you are being restricted access to certain files based on permissions..

Is the actual size of the uploaded image smaller than the settings for large and medium images?

Thanks for this update Diva... Installed perfectly first time and have used it heavily over the last couple of days. Thankyou!
Just one question (and sorry if I missed an explanation)
Some images already on the site have a 'delete' icon under... on medium & large images. Just curious as to what it is telling me.

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
hi, I have just had to do a fresh install of zencart v1.3.9h and am working on getting the second site live before taking down the old site. I have zen light box working and image handler is working as well, but no main product image is displayed. I had zen light box and image handler 2 working together in harmony on the last site.
When you click on the text for the main image, zen light box pops up and shows you the image. however, image handler 3 may not be working right for main product image because the smaller main image is not displayed. there is no image for the main image,. The image file is there and uploaded..because zen lightbox is using it... but image handler isn't displaying the main image. Image handler 3 is working.. because all of the subsequent images are displayed properly. I was wondering if I have to merge parts of image handler 3 and zen light box on a file because they both affect the main image.
the rebuild shop is located at http://bloomingvinedesign.com/shop/
all products seem to be affected.

when you installed it did you activate it in tools/image handler 3?
Did you go to the configuration / images and set it there too?
Make sure you uploaded everything to the right spots and the file that is exactly the same for IH3 and Lightbox...keep the one from lightbox.
when going to your site and hovering over the small image---there is no hover
when you go to the main product image there is not supposed to be an IH3 effect to it but it is supposed to point to the bmz_cache folder, yours does not.

yes all files are where they are supposed to be and zen lightbox was installed second. i confirmed the shared file is from zen lightbox.
is there a setting to change to display main product image? It is installed in tools and seems to be active in admin images. The second images point to the bmz cache.. I believe. Just the main image is missing.

wellllll, this is what just happened to me. never had it happen before but this time...I went to admin/tools/IH2/admin and uninstalled IH2 so I could update this store to IH3
did the things as I should have done, to update to newer version. After all was done I went to install it and it did install...however...
when i hovered the image it was the huge size.
What I had to do was uninstall it again and cleared the cache for the images and actually clicked the link to look for older files...go to store and refresh the page -- several times -- then went back to admin and clicked the install link. Once I did that I tried the store again and it behaved.
so now that I wrote you an article try that...uninstall it, clear cache and have it look for old files then make sure it does not work at the store. go back ad install it again and clear cache for good measure and see if that works

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
All unnecessary.. To begin with the "Scan for old IH 0.x and 1.x original images" link would do ABSOLUTELY nothing for IH2 or IH3 installs.. It's a legacy piece of code left behind for the FEW folks out there running a REALLY REALLY old (original) version of Image Handler..
Best thing would have been to use your FTP tool is to delete the ENTIRE contents of the bmz_cache folder (except the .keep and .htaccess files) and let IH3 re-build the bmz_cache contents..

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
I tried installing today, on a windows server with php 5.3, and found that none of the images were being resized, ie the image urls were as normal, from the images directory. Also when viewing the large images on the product page, no images were displayed as it was pointing to the 'images/large' directory which is empty.
Also found that clearing the cache would not remove anything from the BMZ_Cache folder at all even though it said it completed successfully at the top. Permissions were temporarily set to everyone/full control and the .htaccess file removed to test...
Images were being generated in the BMZ cache folder, and also visible in the admin page under the image handler 3 section but not resized when viewing the store.
No errors were being generated on the pages or in the cache folder
Any ideas on what i should be looking at to work out why the image urls were not being changed, and why the cache would not clear.
Its a clean 1.3.9h install, with a purchased template (template 448)

Yes, i uninstalled and reinstalled twice, made sure all the files were in the correct locations etc
image settings were correct also, just seems very odd that the urls were not being modified to the BMZ_cache folder at all.
Im still trying to get it working will post more info and url as soon as i get it setup through the firewall

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
These are IH2 settings.. If you are going to use IH2, then post your questions on the IH2 support thread..
If you are using IH3, then install it, and review the installation/troubleshooting sections in the IH3 readme.. Make sure you haven't overlooked anything..
If you are still having issues, then post your ALL of your configuration image settings (not just the IH settings), the link to a product where the issue can be seen, (versus a pretend link) and tell us what are your bmz_cache and image folder permissions in this thread.
Otherwise we will all be GUESSING what's wrong with your intallation, and only parroting information on troubleshooting IH3 which is FULLY covered inthe IH3 readme..

There is no trace of Image handler on the page (apart from links to the css files and the javascript file), you also have a lightbox mod on there
Did you upload all the Image handler files because it looks as though some are missing.
1) reupload all image handler folders and file making sure to rename all the folders, this means the ones in includes/templates and ncludes/modules
2) Test it before you add the lightbox, because i hvae never heard of xdarkbox and it would need to be compatible with imagehandler as they would touch the same files and therefore it would overwrite image handlers display functions
-
Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
all the files are definately uploaded correctly, i have checked a number of times, so highly doubt theres any missing files
the lightbox (xdarkbox) is part of the template which was purchased, however this shouldnt affect any of the small or medium images from being redirected from the bmz_cache folder?

Yes it will, if you are using its version of certain files rather than the image handler ones, from looking at the code there is no trace of image handler at all.
If you have purchased the template ask them if it will work with Image handler as some templates need files merged

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
At first blush, based on the image settings you've posted, I am fairly certain you've either ignored or didn't read in full the install and configuration instructions in the readme file.. for example. From the readme:
Quote:
For small image hover to work on the following product listing pages:
- All Products
- New Products
- Featured Products
- Special Products
the following settings must match the
Small Image Width and
Small Image Height settings:
- Subcategory Image Width
- Subcategory Image Height
- Image - Product Listing Width
- Image - Product Listing Height
- Image - Product New Listing Width
- Image - Product New Listing Height
- Image - New Products Width
- Image - New Products Height
- Image - Featured Products Width
- Image - Featured Products Height
- Image - Product All Listing Width
- Image - Product All Listing Height
Your settings CLEARLY do not follow this instruction..
My suggestion is this.. I believe that until you go over your install carefully.. Make sure ALL the files are installed in place, and that you have followed ALL the configuration instructions, you will continue to have issues with this mod..

**nods in agreement** It seems VERY likely that there are files that are a part of jamies22 template which are not working with IH3..
Can't speak for others, but I personally do not like lobbing guesses at unknown files/templates mods.. Plus (for me personally) it's a little beyond the scope of FREE support for me to assist with support issues of a template built by someone else.
All I can suggest to jamies22 is to use a file merge program like Beyond Compare or Winmerge to compare his template files to the IH3 fileset. These programs will make it east to see if there are common files between the IH3 and his template and what needs to be merged so that they work together...
If jamies22 is unable to make the required changes, then yep I agree checking in with the template author for assistance is a great idea or perhaps jamies22 might consider paying for some professional assistance to get this issue all straightened out..

So now that I've REALLY looked at your image settings I have to reiterate the point I made earlier.. Despite your confirmations about your image settings, the image settings you posted seem to demonstrate that you have either not followed or misunderstood the configuration instructions in the IH3 readme. Most notably, some of the parts which jumped out at me that are configured incorrectly are within the following sections:
- The "Zooming (fancy hover effect)" section in it's entirety is implemented incorrectly.
None of your image settings follow the guidelines/recommendations/suggestions/instructions for setting the proper sizes for the small, medium, and large images. This entire section needs to reviewed in full, and your settings adjusted accordingly. - The "Image Dimensions" section is also not implemented correctly.
None of your image settings follow the guidelines/recommendations/suggestions/instructions for properly setting your image dimensions. This section is coordination with the proper setting of your image sizes is ESSENTIAL for IH3 to work correctly.
FIRST:
Strongly suggest re-reading ALL of the instructions in full. Very carefully follow all the recommendations in the readme for properly configuring your image settings.
SECOND:
As Nigel has suggested, you need to double check that all of the IH3 files have been properly uploaded. Along with this, you need to make sure that ANY file your template has in common with IH3 has been properly merged so that the mods required for both the template and IH3 to work together are properly code merged.
LASTLY:
IH3 out the box with a vanilla Zen Cart install is a VERY straight forward mod install. Right out the box it will work with most store configurations. When it doesn't work then 1 of 3 possible things have occurred:
- ALL the files needed for IH3 to work have not been loaded to the store. (this includes not following/missing the install instructions for renaming template and admin files)
- The image settings have been improperly configured.
- Other mods (including some templates) have files in common with IH3 which have not been properly merged with IH3. The readme provides instructions for using IH3 with the two most popular lightbox contributions. Similar changes/mods may be required for other mods/templates to work.

Let me be CRYSTAL clear on what I mean here.. If this is a Template Monster template (and I suspect it is), I don't have any love for these poorly written templates. Issues with them really should go back to the seller of the template, and not hashed out here in an unrelated support thread. Hence my unwillingness to assist where these templates are concerned (sorry :(..) My one and only suggestion for these templates is to go back to the seller and get them to FIX their template to work correctly with IH3 or find a better template which will work with IH3..

One last thing to add to this point..
In the README (yep that thing again..) there is a section called FILES. In this section is a list of all the core files IH3 modifies.. jamies22 should compare these files to his template files and make the appropriate merges as needed..
(yet another reason why we suggest that you read the readme file in full before installing!)

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
I dont doubt it is a problem with the template and compatability with ih3, and the template providers will not provide any support for it to work with IH3,
When i installed there were only 4 ot 5 files overwritten and one template override file when i uploaded IH3, so im under the impression the template is somewhat non standard in the file names or file it uses, and therefore not working with the files present in IH3
for now i have disabled IH3 until i get more time to invest in troubleshooting it and or comparing ih3 files with the template files
when i get some time, i will test ih3 on a different or the default template to confirm my thoughts.
Thanks everyone for their help, diva i know it must be frustrating providing the free support with so many variables that can affect the operation of the software, thanks for your patience and feedback with this...

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Hello!
I hope this is in the correct support thread.
I am running the newest Image Handler, and newest (v1.3.9h) of Zen.
I have just begun to customize my site so far, and installed IH3.
On product display pages, the images are hyperlinked and include text that says "larger image". When clicked, they pop up a small window with the fullsize image.
I wish to remove this link and text completely. I searched all of the files I could think of to find the a href, but couldn't find anything.
Perhaps in the future I will add some sort of Lightbox instead of what comes with IH, but as for now, removing it would more than suffice.
Thanks so much, and I appreciate any help.

This has nothing to do with IH3 - this is default Zen Cart behavior.
You'll need to make you edit(s) to includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_modules_main_product_image.php

There is no problem.. Clyde is quite right.. This has NOTHING to do with IH3 at all..
I'd like to suggest posting this in a separate thread and continuing any further discussion about how to achieve this in that new thread..

My apologies. I don't recall seeing that 'larger image' text prior to installing Image Handler. I'll end this discussion here.
Thanks.

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Hello :)
I just had a quick question. I'm currently running IH2 on Zencart 1.3.9d. When I upload the first image, it doesn't resize the large version. Subsequent images resize no problem. Would upgrading to IH3 allow resizing of the main image also?
Thanks

To answer your question one must assume that this feature required fixing.. (or did not work in IH2). This feature wasn't "fixed" in IH3 as it worked just fine in IH2.. This leads me to believe that the issue for you may be a IH2 configuration/installation issue..
If you are not in fact planning on upgrading, post a question on the IH2 support thread.. Include a link to where the issue you describe can be seen.

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
All is going well except for step #5 of the installation instructions. It states...
Upload the files from "1_Install_Files" to your store. (DO NOT upload the "1_Install_Files" folder, just the CONTENTS of this folder
"Upload them to your store" tells me nothing. I'm sure that they are telling me to upload them to a particular directory but they don'y say which one. The discussion before step #5 was focused on MY_ADMINISTRATION_FOLDER. Is this where they want me to upload the files to?

Upload the files from "1_Install_Files" to your store. (DO NOT upload the "1_Install_Files" folder, just the CONTENTS of this folder
"Upload them to your store" tells me nothing. I'm sure that they are telling me to upload them to a particular directory but they don'y say which one. The discussion before step #5 was focused on MY_ADMINISTRATION_FOLDER. Is this where they want me to upload the files to?
if you open the folder in the zip to upload you will see exactly what folders to transfer them into.
