Default Where are the X files?

I’m opening this Thread as a sort of Index for all the files that are hard, or impossible, to locate away from the Zen Cart Admin area.

The idea is that Newbies (and Vets with poor memories!) can have a quick way to locate any File for easy editing of HTML, PHP and etc, without having to visit the Admin area of their site, and also to ascertain if it is at all possible to go there outside of the Admin area.

If the more experienced Zenners can help in this quest, I would really appreciate it.

I wish to locate the following files on my public_html, (Local View):

File List: (See Posting with File #X)

If I understand your question, those files don't really exist. Most Zencart pages are built dynamically, using PHP, from files, template files and database fields, then displayed as HTML to the visitors' browsers. There isn't any HTML page in Zencart that corresponds to the product in your example.

I am asking where I would go to edit my Products descriptions outside of the Zen Cart Admin area i.e. through say Dreamweaver. The example given is in the original 'Classic' Zen Cart template … I think‼!

Other threads, I have read, suggest that there are no files of this nature, as they are stored in the Database, but since I’m new to this game, which is, might I add, about as complicated as things get – even with the Zen Cart book, I might not be seeing something that is all too obvious to everyone else.

If you want to edit product descriptions outside Zen Cart, you would just use any good HTML editor and make your description, then copy and paste that HTML (WITHOUT <html>, <head> and <body> tags) into the description textbox in the product editing page. Don't use Word or similar word processing programs, though, as they tend to make bloated HTML full of garbage and proprietary code that doesn't work in ordinary browsers.

As Stevesh states all that data is pulled from the database that is attached to your store and lives on your web hosting account, it can be seen by accessing phpmyadmin in your hosting control panel, BUT please don't fiddle with your database if you don't know what you are doing, you have been warned...
However if you really do wantto have a read through your database then create a backup of it and download it to your computer and open that copy of it. You will then see all your text descriptions and details of EVERYTHING that relates to your store.
There is an add-on that creates a database backup if that I'd easier? Besides it's well worth keeping REGULAR database backups and storing them locally for any 'what if' scenarios, that way you can restore your site should anything go wrong one day.
