Default Re: problem with upgrade from v151 to v153 - help please

Is there an "I forgot my password" feature inside the zc_install script?? I didn't see one.

My entire server bank is down right now...HostGator says, "At this time the issues have been identified to be a operating system update that has caused issues across our reseller servers." I know my trying to update this site's database didn't cause it, but still my stomach's churning...the timing is so coincidental. :-/ When they get it fixed, I'll try to log back into the zc_install (that was a hassle in itself since I had to reinstall it several times before I could access it) and see if I can find that workaround bypass.

Will need to know if you have a database prefix and probably run the script through myphpadmin off of your cpanel.

The issues reported by hostgator as you have listed/identified are not a result of your upgrade, but more than likely are causing some of the griefbeing experienced.

Well, I do know my admin username and password, and even went in and re-entered it under Admin->Tools->Admin Settings just to make absolutely sure that it was correct. Still no joy. The zc_install script will not accept it. I tried Admin/admin, too. Still no joy.

My cPanel uses a different username/password. When I clicked on PHPMyAdmin, it would not accept that username/password. I have no idea why...it should. So once again I have no idea what to do.

This is why I hate upgrades. It's a cascade failure right from the first moment.

To go back a little seeing how there was a misunderstanding about how to use the zc_install to do a database only upgrade, you have taken your existing SECRET admin directory and renamed it to admin while the zc_install folder is inplace, and then gone to website/zc_install (assuming that to normally get to the website only website would need to be entered in the browser, right?

At this point nothing has been changed. Why you have a tools->Admin Settings option on your admin screen is unclear, as admin password/admin user options do not reside under the tools menu. Sounds like perhaps there is some sort of additional code installed/involved related to admin users. If you're able to access the non-upgraded database through the admin panel, then the same admin script can be run through tools->install SQL patches or whatever it is called but do not need to apply/add the database prefix... Then, againrename admin directory and put the zc_install folder back in it's place, access zc_install and use the Admin admin username password combination when asked for an administrator user name and password.

Well, there was no misunderstanding, really...the problem was that I couldn't access zc_install the first several times I uploaded it. Possibly the situation with HostGator was a factor, I don't know. But I used the same url every single time, and it only worked on the 5th time; I got errors each of the other times. Then when I was able to finally access it, I could get as far as where it required the un/pw, and it wouldn't accept them. I installed the patch that was recommended, and that didn't help, either.

No, I haven't renamed the admin folder. It's still the secret name I chose.

Do you then have both your secret admin folder and an admin folder named admin?

So what did you change in zc_install to have it recognize that your admin directory is actually your secret admin directory and not found in the admin folder?

What instructions led you down this path?
Where did you get your copy of ZC 1.5.3. And is it hotfix 1?

See, the zc_install procedure like Dr. Byte was saying requires the admin directory to be named admin. Further, when accessing the admin panel, it expects to not be named admin, and at the same time whether it isnamed admin or not, the system expects zc_install to only "briefly" exist otherwise there are actions prevented until it is removed...

So,if during the time that you had zc_install in place aand the admin directory wasn't named admin, then shouldn't have been able to even get so far with the zc_install procedure and no wonder there was difficulty...

Perhaps I have asked the questions in the wrong way... I've reread our discussion to try to address this.

While your admin directory is renamed (current status from what I've gathered): perform the actions of the forgotten password as applicable for the current database version in the install sql patches section of the admin panel. Come to think of it it may be necessary to include as part of that sql the assignment for the last time the user changed their password to be equal to now() so that the system doesn't think that the password is a temporary password when performing the upgrade later below.
Rename the admin directory to admin.
Upload the zc_install folder from a clean copy to the root of your store/temporary store, apply whatever changes have been suggested by the link previously provided.
    Access zc_install from your site.
When asked for your username and password provide Admin and admin respectively.
The upgrade should continue to completion.
Then rename the admin directory to your secret name
    Delete the zc_install directory.
Should now be able to access the admin using Admin/admin. Change the password to something else.
Change the password for your other admin profile, attempt to login with it.
If unable to login at that point, login again with Admin/new password.
Create a new user account to be an administrator.
    Login with new account.
Delete old account(s) and Admin account.

Okay, maybe I'm even more stupid than I thought, because I have absolutely no idea what you're saying here.

Why do I need to "perform the actions of the forgotten password" when I haven't forgotten my password? I know exactly what it is. The zc_install program just won't accept it, even after I renamed my modified admin folder back to just "admin."

"For the current database version in the install sql patches section of the admin panel"? The Install Sql Patches page tells me "NOTE: Zen Cart database-upgrade scripts should NOT be run from this page. Please upload the new zc_install folder and run the upgrade from there instead for better reliability." As far as I can see, there's nothing on that page that can be used for anything at this point.

I'm sorry...I'm not trying to be difficult. But you're instructing me to do things that just aren't making any sense. :-<
