NOTE: Products with Attributes as Downloads are already Virtual by having the Download on the attribute and already skip the checkout_shipping ... you should not mark the Product as Virtual *and* have the Download Attribute ... just having the Download Attribute should be all that is needed ...

Unfortunately the URLs that were provided and not reachable are/were such an example. I have corrected the original products and was about to post my situation/solution. However, the products identified as downloadables not marked as virtual that result in asking for shipping created demonstrate this issue and are still present and setup as such:

Had two option Names:

1) Download (radio button)
and
2) A question (dropdown)

The radio button had only the file download associated with it and defaulted to being selected.

The question dropdown had a defaulted, display only option value, and then two answers, one which had a cost associated with it. Neither had a download tied to it.

The correction for this situation was to add the download to each of the two answers of the second option name and remove the download option name from the product.

Now, when processing the cart as part of checkout_shipping all is determined to be virtual without having to identify it as virtual only product. (But, if there was an additional attribute that did not include a download with it, it would need to be identified as virtual otherwise it comes out as mixed..)

First I think your question/issue needs to be spun off into it's own thread, as it seems wholly unrelated to support for this module.. Believe *wholly* is a bit extreme when it was ajeh that was asking (albeit a year ago) of some other condition where a download existed and/or a product needed to be marked as virtual in order to be properly treated through the process... As for my "assumption" of what happens, follow the code... Discovered this condition a couple of weeks ago first in practice, then by code review and have been reviewing the instructions for assignment of downloadable products. The instructions well, aren't exactly wrong for the below condition, but do not recognize that it could occur or the need to mark the product as virtual in order to further bypass the shipping information request. It was only when reviewing this thread following a recent post that I found a related response/inquiry tieing this situation and may require modification of this plugin to support the condition.


Clean install of 1.5.3 downloaded from ZC, didn't even correct the reset of the shipping calculation for virtual products.

Follow the program code as below for a product-general setup like this:
Product setup to be Virtual: no, shipping address required; Always free Shipping: no, normal shipping rules.
Product not priced by attributes.
No model number is entered or model number entered does not contain GIFT.
An option name of downloads is added as a radiobutton, sort order 0.
An option name of assistance is added as a dropdown, sort order 20.

One option value for each download created off of the option name download populated with the name of the product to be tied, with sort order 10 for each of those option values.
Option values for the assistance option name are set with sort order 0, 10, 20 respectively for Please Select, Yes, and No values.
In attributes controller, Download Option Name/value pair selected, filename that exists (green dot) is entered for filename, # days and downloads is entered, save the attribute.
Option Name, with all 3 Option Values selected added to product.
'Please Select' is identified in attributes controller as display only, default. Therefore will not by a valid selection for adding to the cart.

Add item to cart, while logged in continue to checkout from the shopping cart.

includes/modules/pages/checkout_shipping/header_php.php line 76 pulls in the order class (require statement).
at line 77 $order = new order; which is a call to the order class without an order number to initiate/construct a new order variable.

The construct function of the order class, assigns internal variables to be blank/empty then calls the cart() function that is also in the order class.

The cart() function then sets the content_type = the active shopping cart's get_content_type() function.

line 1421 of the shopping_cart class begins the function get_content_type() which defaults to gv_only = false in this situation.

The code provided below is what identifies/returns the content_type (get_content_type function). A written interpretation is provided as the "summary". Follow either if you wish, but with a product setup as above in ZC 1.5.3 and the associated tables provided below, the resulting content_type is 'mixed' rather than 'virtual'. Is it the wrong condition to have? I might say that if there is nothing that actually is shipped or physically provided (ie. no weight to anything and perhaps some other factor(s) to consider) and there is a download associated, then perhaps it should remain virtual and not become mixed. I found a solution to my situation that didn't at first make sense from a store operation perspective but does from a coding perspective.

summary:
$this->content_type = false (initializes the content_type)
The cart has contents so enters the if statement.
One product (not zero or less) so enters while loop.
$free_ship_check->fields['products_virtual'] = 0; and $free_ship_check->fields['product_is_always_free_shipping'] = 0; based on the above assignments of virtual no and free shipping is no.
$virtual_check = false;
not a gift.
Product has attributes (Download and assistance) and free shipping is not equal to 2 (it equals zero).
while loop is entered and is expected to be visited no more than one more time.
virtual_check_query->fields['total'] is > 0 if the option_value for the product is included as a download, otherwise = 0.
in this case, the first attribute is the download option name, the query returns 1.
In the select case, the value is 'false' which results in a product type of 'virtual'.
back to the while loop.
The virtual_check_query->fields['total'] = 0 because the next attribute does not have a download associated with it.
This moves into the else area, the content_type currently is 'virtual'
the free_ship_check->fields['product_virtual'] = 0 so the content_type is set to 'mixed'.
back from the start, $gv_only = 'false' (because it was not provided when entering this function) therefore 'mixed' is returned ending further processing in this function. No further processing necessary as can no longer be identified as virtual only nor can it be identified as only physical. Same result occurs with Option Names in other sequence. In order for the above process to "naturally" indicate 'virtual' by itself, all attributes in the shopping_cart must contain a download (haven't yet considered the effect of all containing a download. If that means that the same download would be available multiple times in the order history, or if two different downloads might be possible if improperly assigned, etc..) or the product be specifically identified as virtual

The issue of marking a Product as Virtual when there is already an Attribute with a Download on it is that when the counts are done to check what shipping should be offered, they most likely will be off when you have 1 physical product in the cart and one Download Product in the cart as the Download Product with count as 2 2 verses 1 and could cause issues at checkout ...

So I would really have to see this in action causing and issue when everything is setup correctly and triggering a problem, before I could offer any resolution to this problem ...

Out of curiosity, have you accidentally added weight to the Product or to the attributes?

Seems that if the item has zero weight, and the above Free Shipping 0 Weight Status is set, then if shipping is listed that free shipping would be prevented; however, in the checkout_shipping/header_php.php file the checkout_payment code should be called next because the product is to be virtual not mixed.

I have been able to reproduce this problem and the only solution, thus far is marking the Product as Virtual when there are both Attributes with an Option Name group with Downloads and Attributes with an Option Name group without Downloads on it ...

I am not sure why I could not trigger this issue on my initial testing, other than maybe I forgot to select an Attribute from the Option Name group without a Download on it ...

This does indicate that to use the Product marked as Virtual, with the Option Name group without a Download that there has to be a selection made ... meaning, there has to be a forced Option Value from the Option Name group without the Download in order for it to handle a Product with a Download option name group and an Option Name group without a Download and the Product itself being marked as Virtual ...

No apologies needed on my part, I knew it was going to take a bit to "explain"/demonstrate. Although I could tell that there was a visit this morning to one of the "trouble" products, that was the extent of it. As a result of not being able to "reach" further (possibly because of the device being used and that I haven't applied one of the great available templates, the product(s) having difficulty could not be fully reached, or the current setup) I am striking out to get a true host location now. Thought I would be okay for a bit, but in light of the above difficulty, moving on.

Gotta' reproduce to verify/validate and do something about it. :)

Again, not sure what the "right" way for it to operate/be setup is as it seems to still meet the instructions. I was able to overcome the issue without marking the product as virtual by having all cart addable attributes include a download filename. As said, from one side was a bit confusing to me on a store setup, but on the coding side it made perfect sense... :)

Alternate temporary reachable site creation cancelled, thank you for reporting your finding(s). :)

Sorry.. I'm working on several days with little to no sleep and not really in a frame of mind to look at LONG A$$ED posts..

This is all VERY confusing here, and on the surface sounds like that if I were to upgrade my own site from v1.5.1 to v1.5.4, that my downloads will stop working and to make sure it continues to work I will have to either:

A. Set ALL of my downloadable products to virtual.. Something I understood to be a NO NO when setting up current downloadable products.
B. Leave all of my products as "non virtual" products, but now I must add a download file to each one of my product attributes.

• Am I understanding the issue??
• Is this a BUG due to an inadvertent side effect of v1.5.4 changes or an intentional change in v1.5.4 for how downloads need to be configured??
• WHAT exactly does this issue have to do with THIS MODULE??? Is this issue caused by this module, or v1.5.4 or is this just a yet to be tested THEORY that this MIGHT impact this module (that still isn't clear, and this whole discussion seems VERY off topic.. IJS).. Ajeh's thread from a year ago was VERY clear how it related to this module.. This discussion has not yet been DIRECTLY tied back to this module so I'm not clear what the connection is or the EXACT problem with this module is.. (and I'm sure the developer of this module would appreciate knowing the SAME thing too)

Testing in v1.5.1 and v1.5.4, if you have a Product with an Option Name group that are Downloads and an Option Name Group that are not download, you need to mark the Product as Virtual or you will have to select a shipping method ...

If the Product only has an Option Name group where all Values are Downloads, then you do not have to mark the Product as Virtual to skip the checkout_shipping ...

NOTE: make sure when the Product has an Option Group for Downloads and an Option Group without Downloads that you select an Attribute from each group for this to work correctly ...
