main page layout issues

Hi,

I'm a wordpress buff, I just got roped into upgrading a friend's zencart from 1.1.4 to current. Sooo, the upgrade is done and the site is working well on my dev box, but, since the new version has a new template system, I have to recreate his template from scratch.

Issues thus far:

1. going to index.php automatically reroutes me to index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=12182 -- a product. I don't want the main page taking me to a product. how do i change this?

2. I want the main page to show a list of featured products in the center box (as seen here: http://www.bluebeatmusic.com/index.php. how do i do this?

3. Where do I start looking if i want to remove some of the side boxes?

Many, many, many Thanks! As painful as the upgrade was, I've had far more troubles with Oscommerce in the past.

You do not appear to have your products setup for the master_categories_id nor the products_price_sorter ...

I am guessing that you are using Linked Products as well ...

These fields are used to help manage prices and displays ...

If using Linked Products ... then you need to excercise more care in setting the master_categories_id of a Product ...

In the Tools ... Store Manager ... is an Update Master Categories ID ... this will set the first category found in the products_to_categories table to be the master_categories_id and this will be used for pricing purposes such as calculations involving Sale Maker ...

Then, you need to run the Update Product Price Sorter ...

Some of this clean up would help ...

I am guessing that you may have mixed Categories where a Category holds both Categories and Products ... if so, this is a bad thang ...

Categories hold Products or Categories hold Categories ... never both at the same time ...

This causes errors on searches, pricing, etc.

NOTE: if you do have mixed Categories ... get those cleaned up before attempting to run the Update Master Categories ID and Update Product Price Sorter ...

NOTE: before attempting anything ... backup your database ...

Also, there is a setting where a Category with 1 product goes directory to the Product Info page ... this can be turned off if you do not want it ...

The upgraded site is not live yet. Are you basing your comments on the url I provided, or the description I outlined in my post?
