I have "installed" the newest version of SEO URL, which is the beta. I am not finding out how to turn it on. I am also getting a few error messages at the top.

TROUBLESHOOTING: After installing itself, this module writes a file named ".keep" in admin\includes\module_installation, if your server doesnt allow it to do so, it may make the module attempting to install itself everytime. The fix is easy though, just manually create a .keep file there (after the module has already installed itself, of course)
I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

Ok that works now. However, a lot of my URLs are long and it doesn't seem to parse right....

There was a minor bug in the language parsing (I was working on a recommendation made by some users, to remove non alpha-numeric characters from the name), and that messed up the name a bit (all the name parts got stuck together into a very long string)

This should fix the problem right away:
    http://public.rubikintegration.com/ssu_beta_3.4.5.zip

(You only need to upload the files/folders inside the includes/classes folder in the package)

Remember to clear ssu cache after uploading.

    Hello Yellow, et all.
I am currently on the very doorstep to start installing SEO, but i need to be careful as we are doing reasonable in our shop and december is high traffic & sales for us.
Page ranks and SERP's are currently pretty good for us too, but i have the feeling i can improve those plus i really need some "normal" url's to advertise with. like in http://mysite/mygreatproduct as i have seen in the alias option.

few questions remain before i will go over the doorstep tough :)

    1. what SEO should i use best, given my requirements is simple seo the best option or is ultimate or magical maybe offering stuff that i should look at as well.

    2. given it is simple seo, should i go with the now posted latest version or are you recommending a stable version?

    3. my old links won't be reachable obviously, will all of my current indexed links still be reachable via the rewrite?

    4. i never got the zenid stuff entirely, just wondering, is that pasted behind the seo url?

    5. i know i have a few internal links that don't use the zen_href_link but use /shop/index.php?cat=112prod=4 or something like that. After installing the mod i think those should be rewritten or will the always be valid as long as the products are there?

Many thanks in advance, i can see you put alot of time in this and helping alot of people out, great stuff

    Cheers,
    Jeroen.

Crappers, i forget my most important question about the aliases :)
If an alias is created, is that link then available on both the links?
so it's a true alias, or is it a replacement?

    Thanks,
    Jeroen

First of all, static vs dynamic links has been a hot topic, and the opinions vary. I myself do not claim that using static links will help search engine ranking in any way.

SSU does offer some useful features that correct some "wrong" behaviors by zencart default (http://wiki.rubikintegration.com/zen...ules/ssu/about)

I wouldnot recommend UltimateSeoUrl, that mod support and development have stopped for 2 years. As for the commercial ones, I think they are good and have their own advantages.

    2. given it is simple seo, should i go with the now posted latest version or are you recommending a stable version?
--> latest, if you are on php5

    3. my old links won't be reachable obviously, will all of my current indexed links still be reachable via the rewrite?
--> they will all be reachable(when you visit old links, you will be redirected to new ones)

    4. i never got the zenid stuff entirely, just wondering, is that pasted behind the seo url?
--> zenid is neccessary, so it's passed in the urls (doesnt matter which seo module you use)

    5. i know i have a few internal links that don't use the zen_href_link but use /shop/index.php?cat=112prod=4 or something like that. After installing the mod i think those should be rewritten or will the always be valid as long as the products are there?
--> if you are talking about links put in ezpage, they will be translated as well. If you are talking about links hardcoded in templates, i would recommend using zen_href_link for those.

    6. If an alias is created, is that link then available on both the links?
I guess "alias" is misleading, when you create an "alias" using SSU, the old links will be redirected to new one (this is to prevent content duplication problem)

Ok yellow, thanks for taking your time to answer those.
I was allready on the rubiks page and i have read all the long discussions about rewriting will/will not help rankings.
Frankly, i don't care, i just want the url's to be readable and i have plenty of good reason's why i want that.
In fact, if it wasn't for that then i wouldn't touch the module at all as i allready said, i am fine with my current rankings.

Starting up xamp, this may become a long night

    cheers

It looks great in the test.
Although i gave myself a hard time as in a long time ago i removed extra from the menu as i didnt think i was ever gonna use it and after finally remembering that i put the $za_contents[] link in the tools menu which did clarify alot hehe

Unfortunately my provider has mod_rewrite off so ill probably have to wait another day or 2 to go life and test paypal IPN as well.

    Thanks anyway, mod looks great.
