Default I reinstalled, and database is blank....

Under 1.3.8a, I added a few products (about 3 days worth).

    I backed up the database.

I reinstalled (did not upgrade; I wanted to just upgrade, but ended up reinstalling to 1.3.9. Long story....)

As I haven't done any customization/template changes, etc. I didn't think this should matter; I would just restore my old database to the new installation.

When I do a database "restore" at my server there are no changes. The database doesn't read the backed up database. The database is blank.

The database is working. I can create test categories and test products.

Am I missing something, or do have to start over again loading products?

Default Re: I want to add this to the hcaccess file, but it's not there, where the tutorial s

I've installed the new version --- 1.3.9, and now my database is not showing up. It works (I can add test products, etc.) but the products I added previously do not show up.

I contacted my server people, and they checked the database functionality, and to the best of their knowledge everything appears ok (eg., they're clueless).

Do I have to reinstall all of my my products? It seems like that would be a big drawback to upgrading, for most folks......

The previous version (1.3.8a) was an "auto-install" version by GoDaddy--- I manually reinstalled 1.3.9 over it, as advised..... could this have something to do with no connection to earlier database entries? How do I fix that?

Somebody reply, even if you're guessing........

So, you're saying you have an old backup, and when you restored from that old backup suddenly all data you added *since* that backup is now gone?

Sorry ... that's the way it works. If you restore an old backup overtop of new data, you wipe the new data, replacing it with the old data. If you want to preserve your new data, you need to do a backup of the new data before restoring the old data over it.

No, what I'm saying is that I have loaded products onto the database prior to upgrading to 1.3.9 .

I just want the new ZC installation to pull up products from the old database.

I backed up the old database prior to the installing the new version 1.3.9. "Restoring" the info. does nothing. The old database information is unreachable.

I must be doing something wrong; otherwise people with large stores would not want to upgrade because they would lose their database every time.

Yes, it seems you're doing something wrong.

If you have a 1.3.8 site, and it's working fine, and has new products in it, then take do a database backup of it, and import that into your 1.3.9 test site, and then re-run zc_install to bring that 1.3.8 data up-to-date.

That's part of what the upgrade instructions tell you to do.

I backed up the 1.3.8 site database. I reinstalled 1.3.9 over it. It is now a 1.3.9 site.

There is no longer any 1.3.8 site, or any test site.

I simply want to take the backed up 1.3.8 database and use it on the new site.

    Can I do this?

    Yes. Import the 1.3.8 data.
That will leave you with a 1.3.8 database.
So, now run zc_install and choose Database Upgrade to bring the database up to 1.3.9 again.
Done. Just like the upgrade docs say.
