Uploading large files??

Adding a link to yousendit is not the difficult part... Associating whatever is being sent with a specific order IS the challenge.

If 100 customers place an order and you get 100 files through yousendit... how are you going to know what file belongs to what order?

I may have a solution... let me mull on it for a while

They would have to enter their email address for the yousendit upload and also for the order... you could associate it that way.

OK... so that resolves the problem of linking the file to an order...

Now... I think it would be better to let them get all the way to checkout, pay for the service, then be given a link to the yousendit page... (on the checkout_success page)

what do you think?

(Of course they get some strong alerts along the way reminging them to do that... plus an alert on the checkout_success page)

If they fail to use the link, at least you have their order, their money and their email address

The nice thing about putting the YOUSENDIT link on checkout success is that you can apply the link around a lot of other info, simply by editing the checkout success page:

admin >>> tools >>> define pages editor >>> define_checkout_success.php.

I thought about this Linda... does it have an upper ceiling? ... and the OP here is talking about files that are really big... Is HTTP the most appropriate transport method for such large files? could there be time-out issues?

Sorry to revisit this a month later.........

I was browsing hot scripts and they have various Java applets that are File Uploaders for both FTP and HTTP. They have unlimited upload size, upload progress bars and other features. Would there be anything in Zen Cart to prevent these from being a functional solution?

Any comments are appreciated. Thanks !!

Why not just add a bit of javascript to the page so that when the submit button is clicked a little animated gif shows up while the upload is happening? No actual progress indicator is really needed, just something to let people know that the upload is in progress, right?
Actual upload progress-meters are very complicated to do without hacking up a lot of core code, and even then are iffy. But at least a visual would do the job, wouldn't it?
