So you have proven that you can replicate the header functions in your own code (though the links don't go anywhere yet)... you could have done precisely the same header navbar using the built-in ez-pages header nav, but the links would all function automatically already.
The footer did need customized coding as you have done. My EZ-Pages Footer Columns mod, just yesterday finished final testing and to be released imminently, would be able to recreate the set of "SEO" links and have them all automatically function from admin.

I notice that your center column content has a <head> section with embedded styling - that is invalid HTML and should not be there, but when you fix that, it should be good. The whole contentMainWrapper is displaced to the right, as I expect you know, but whatever is causing that should be easily fixable.

That brings us to the sidebar. What do you want to do with it that you feel the standard sideboxes cannot be tweaked to do? Yes, it is possible to build anything from scratch, but what is the benefit of having to write, debug and maintain all of the code?

You have .headerContainer floated left for some reason; when that float is removed, the content falls back into place.

Hi, many thanks for your prompt reply. You have been a massive help with adivce and therefore thank you very much indeed. I've managed to sort out the reason why the content is displaced to the right in Firefox, many thanks again for your help in spotting what what causing it.

In regards to the left columnm, I want it to look exactly the same as the example below - albeit the colours. Any ideas how this can be achieved?

All you really want is the categories customized a bit in appearance? Categories Dressing will let you add the intermediate headings, and you can style the category links in your stylesheet.

Hi there, many thanks for your message. Yes, really I just want to dress it, exactly the same as the example I sent to you. Not sure how I can put in text (such as the red in the example) as that is not linked, just text. The other text however are all links.

Hope I have explained well enough.

    Thanks, Kriss.

Hi, is there any other way to edit the left column? I have found the tpl_header.php and tpl_footer.php...I'm presuming there must also be something there for the left sidebar? Any ideas?

There are tpl_box_default_left.php and tpl_box_default_right.php in the same folder where you found the others.
