Default SSL error when incorporating Windows Live Messenger -is there a secure HTTPS option?

Hi everyone, and THANKS to the publisher for sharing this WONDERFUL add on.

    Everything works great!!! EXCEPT...

I installed Windows Live Messenger chat client on a website using the HTML code available at: http://settings.messenger.live.com/a...bSettings.aspx

The client works great for chat and no problems connecting.

The issue is that now my website (www.majesticsilver.co.uk), which has SSL certificate, gets security warnings from all browsers.

On Internet Explorer for example when opening my page it warns that "Only Secured content is displayed" and it will not display the chat button that links users to the live chat unless you select "show all content".

Google chrome throws up a security warning "this page includes resources which are not secure" (meaning the MSN chat button) and does not display HTTPS properly at the top of the screen, just https in red with a strike through line.

I know this is happening because the code included in http://settings.messenger.live.com/a...bSettings.aspx retrieves the Presence Button/link that is displayed on my website, www.majesticsilver.co.uk , in HTTP and not HTTPS, for example mine uses:

(this is only part of the code)

    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://messenger.services.live.com/users/[email protected]/presence?dt=&mkt=en-GB&cb=Microsoft_Live_Messenger_PresenceButton_onPresence"></script>

If I disable the Windows Live Messenger presence button from my pages I get no SSL security warnings so I know this is the cause.

Is there an alternative SECURE link to the Presence Button that I can use instead to avoid these errors which will scare people away from my website?

    PLEASE HELP

Have you had any success? I'm having the exact same issue.

I have not yet had success.

There are solutions posted in the Skype add on for overcoming these SSL issues, but skype is no good for me since you need a Skype account to chat.

It's impossible to find a good Proxy host in the UK and probably too expensive. So the Proxy solution in the MSN thread is also out of the question.

So the only option left is I'm going to pay a developer to kinda adapt the solution found for the skype SSL problem and try to adapt it here.

I should be back here to report within a week.

For now, I had my webmaster disable the right nav column (where my windows live is located) while customers are using secure pages (e.g. registration, login, account area, etc). I'll have to also move items that I had in the right nav over to the left nav column such as my help section and privacy policy so that they are available at all times.

You dont have to disable the whole column, you can just have the messenger box disabled on secure pages.

How do I make it secure?

When I go to my site when the messenger sidebox is on a security warning pops up? Any way to fix that? My site is secure.

I'm using 1.3.8g and the latest version of messenger.

Is it possible to replace the presence button with a button of my own?
