Who wants a Zen Cart ADMIN app for mobile devices?

tony_sar:

i got 24inch wide screen and i still think is too small to brows the net
MOBI is a new wrinkle and one that probably catered to. As a a mobile society, we do not reliably carry our lap tops around nor ar many connected with them mobily.
Phones with web capability are increasing and those that cater to them will experience some % of sales through this interface JMO

Re: Who wants a Zen Cart ADMIN app for mobile devices?

As an owner of the Blackberry Storm and a Zencart store, I see the Zencart need as twofold:

  1. A front end customer template that streamlines/simplifies my store's homepage with a basic branding field, a search feature at the top, and main categories beneath. Cear product listing and product description pages that leads to a simplified, large, and easy checkout process.

This would take advantage of users who like to surf/shop on their new phones and also allow me the ability to process phone based orders easily while on the go for my phone customers.

  1. A simplified backend Zencart CP that allows for order updates and processing.

Frankly, I don't think design of these templates would be terribly difficult, but as a store owner, I just do not have the time.

Also, I would trust you professionals to create a better integrated environment than I ever could...

Please! :yes:

I couldn't agree more. I currently have one of my customer's that is bugging me on a regular basis as how to get his store viewable on an iPhone and to be honest I have no clue. I read earlier that this would be mostly template specific, but two questions jump into mind for me. - first if an iPhone user goes to a website - what triggers the iPhone interface for the site? Is there a link somewhere that says..if Iphone, click here to see the alternate template? The second question - is there documentation that provides guidelines on how an iPhone interface should be designed?

I'm going to do more research, but I definitely have a requirement for this and as it is not within my expertise - I would be interested in working with someone that is interested in developing a Zen-cart interface for iPhone for shoppers. I'm sure more of my customers are going to be looking for this option.

Re: Who wants a Zen Cart ADMIN app for mobile devices?

There are a number of threads here.

As far as the catalog side goes, I think iphone safari does a great job of rendering a default Zen Cart store. The only real thing missing is the switch to landscape mode.

Detecting an iphone is pretty much a matter of looking at the user agent and apple provide ways of detecting orientation as well. In Zen Cart this would then have to trigger a loading of a specific template/css

e.g.

<!--#if expr="(${HTTP_USER_AGENT} = /iPhone/)"-->
<style type="text/css">
<!--
here's where you'd include special styles for the iPhone
-->
</style>
<!--#else -->
<style type="text/css">
<!--
regular web browser style and CSS information goes here
-->
</style>
<!--#endif -->

(note this is just changing css , whereas completely changing the template would require some form of server redirect)

This thread was more to do with doing some specific admin stuff on the iphone.

I'll check the forums and see if there are any threads in addition to this one addressing iPhone for the catalog.

Thanks for the information - didn't mean to hijack the discussion.

Free module for the front-end issue discussed here: branninggroup.com/zen-cart-mobile.php

It's definitely on my to do list, but I haven't tried it yet. Too many other tweaks for me to do first. :wink:

Hmm, it's more limited than I thought. But might be a good jumping off point.

Anyone had a play with iPhone MyShop and ZenCart mod? appstore.malorny.net/myshop.php

I can get it to read customers, but it isn't loading Order (but that may be caused due to another mod being installed to improve cust orders); will need to try on a fresh install.

I can't get that to work :( I have posted to malorny and he does'nt know the problem either.

here is the conversation

Hi, following a previous thread I have used http://www.mystore.co.uk/admin/iphone.php/a=status [^] to try and find out why the program was not working.

The result was:

MyShop iPhone App plugin version 1.3

Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/mystore/public_html/admin/iphone.php on line 395

Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/mystore/public_html/admin/iphone.php on line 400

mysql_fetch_array ... OK

fail

I am using zen-cart version 1.3.8a and I do have orders, customers, products and items in the database, so any help would be appriciated.

after a bit of testing he replyed with this

OK, that means, that there's something wrong with your PHP functions create_..._query(...).

It's hard to debug this from here without access to your code/server. Do you have someone who can help you debugging the PHP code?
First it would be helpful to check, why the function create_customer_query returns "false" instead of a mysql_query object.

If anyone has any ideas about how to fix it let me know please.

Re: Who wants a Zen Cart ADMIN app for mobile devices?

Back to the original question, I would definitely be interested.

I now spend half of my week away from my business studying for my degree. I need a new mobile phone and thought that one that could connect to the internet so I could view incoming orders during my breaks would be great, only to discover today in the phone shop that zencart admin wasn't accessible. I get over 300 emails a day with lots of huge files attached, so don't really want them coming through via email onto my phone... and I'm not tech savvy, definitely more a KISS method required here.

StoreSync is an interesting looking product. They haven't done Zen Cart yet - they're targeting other carts - but it gives you an idea of what's possible.

Re: Who wants a Zen Cart ADMIN app for mobile devices?

Malorny has released a new version (1.4) of his ipone app for zen-cart, but yet again I can't get it to work on both the order and item queries.

This is the result from my test

MyShop iPhone App plugin version 1.4

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') group by op.orders_products_id order by op.orders_id DESC' at line 17

Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/store/public_html/admin/iphone.php on line 452

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') group by op.orders_products_id order by op.orders_id DESC' at line 17

phpversion ... 	5.2.9	OK
mysqlversion ... 	5.0.81-community-log	OK
mb_convert_encoding ... 		OK
zen_db_prepare_input ... 		OK
zen_db_input ... 		OK
mysql_query ... 		OK
mysql_fetch_array ... 		OK
customer query ... 	13	OK
products query ... 	5	OK
orders query ... 	1	FAIL
items query ... 	1	FAIL

The code seems to have a problem with this block (line 452 is highlighted in red)

function my_db_fetch_array($q) {
	if (ZENCART)
	return mysql_fetch_assoc($q);
	return tep_db_fetch_array($q);

any ideas?

Re: Who wants a Zen Cart ADMIN app for mobile devices?

Good news I have managed to fix Malorny's iphone app :D

Open the file iphone.php with your choice of text editor (I like notepad++) and then you need to change lines 308 & 353 where the coding says

and s.language_id = '" . (int)$languages_id . "'

change to

and s.language_id = '" . (int)$_SESSION['languages_id'] . "'

This is because I think Malorney either forget or did not know that one of Zen-Cart's main differences from os-commerce is that Zen-Cart uses superglobals. I have posted on his board and he is aware of how to fix it now.

enjoy :cool:
