Ceon URI Mapping (SEO)

First off, great module, installing was as simple as the instructions stated! As far as I can tell, its been working exactly how its supposed to.

I know this question has been posted numerous times, but have not gotten an answer. Is there a way to use this module along with Easy Populate?

I need to add over a thousand products, but do not really want to go in each product and click the check box. Is there a way to maybe go in the database and change something or add a value to easy populate to get it to automatically change it?

It's been covered, but I think what you are looking for that is not in this thread is a detailed answer. Yes you can probably use EZ Populate to upload your product's URI data the same way you can manually add URI's for non-product pages (all discussed in good detail in Conor's readme file). It would likely require some modification to the EZ Populate upload file, and possibly changes to EZ Populate add-on to accept the URI fields. Dunno if you'd be able to get EZ Populate to auto-generate a URI, but you would likely have to manually add the URI to your EZ Populate upload file along with the other product data. (which means YOU will have to make darn sure you do not create duplicate URI's)

This thread is probably NOT the best place to have an in depth discussion on what needs to be modified in EZ Populate to make this work. (it's WAY off topic since it's truly not a Ceon URI support question) Best post you question on how to get this to work on the EZ Populate support thread.

Conor is always willing to help when it comes to this module, but that is a commercial add on module you are talking about that can be purchase from him. I Just wanted to clarify that because so many are asking for the same thing. Shoot if everyone who uses this module would donate $10.00 or $15.00 to this cause he might add that feature to this module in the future who knows. Support is always a good thing.

Re: Ceon URI Mapping (SEO)

him I installed this module and it works well, but i found two problems.
First, if a product is linked to two catgories, the uri resulting is the uri original plus the path of the link:
example

original product uri: erogatori-acqua/frigo-gasatori/refrigeratore-fontaine

linked product uri: erogatori-acqua/frigo-gasatori/refrigeratore-fontaine?cPath=94

EZ Pages which have a inside link to a page will not show the uri calculated but the standard url
std url http://www.acquatua.it/index.php?main_page=contact_us
Calculated URI /contatti

Is there a solution for these problems?

Thanks

Re: Ceon URI Mapping (SEO)

Hi,

enzo-ita:

First, if a product is linked to two catgories, the uri resulting is the uri original plus the path of the link:

Yes, that's right. That's how the software has to work. Otherwise "context" is lost on the site. The canonical URI for both these URIs is the same, so search engines see no duplication of content.

So simply, you haven't found a problem.. just ignore the cPaths, the search engines do!

enzo-ita:

EZ Pages which have a inside link to a page will not show the uri calculated but the standard url

EZ-page internal links are not supported by the software. Since you are able to provide static URIs for all your pages through Ceon URI Mapping there is no point in the EZ-Page internal links anymore.. you should remove all of them from your site and use Ceon URI Mapping for the links instead.

All the best..

Hi,
thanks for the prompt answer.
I am a newbie, plus I am italian, so please do not stuck on my wording.
When I say i found a problem I do not mean the software has a bug. I am jus underlining something i noticed.
If goole ignore the cpath would'nt this result in duplicated products for google?

About providing static URIs for all your pages through Ceon URI Mapping cna you point on how to do that?

Thanks

enzo-ita:

No problem, I understand.

enzo-ita:

No as the products only have ONE canonical URI.

enzo-ita:

About providing static URIs for all your pages through Ceon URI Mapping cna you point on how to do that?

That's covered in the documentation. Simply read and use the section:

"Specifying the current URI Mapping for any other Zen Cart page".

You can set up new static URIs for the other pages on your site, instead of using the now-defunct "EZ-Pages Internal Links" functionality. You should remove all EZ-Page internal links. Simply set them up as "other page URIs" as outlined in the documentation section I've listed above.

Hope that helps!

All the best..

Re: Ceon URI Mapping (SEO)

Hello - just a quick question that I asked in general questions, but thought it better to ask here as it involves my CEON URI Mapping.

The 'add this to my cart' button doesn't work when my URI module is switched on, at first I thought it was only on the featured products, but it seems to be on all of them. The buy it now button works

please help, as I want to fix this & don't want to turn the module off - I hope it is something simple.

thanks in advance

I'm using zencart 1.3.8.a

You haven't installed the software properly.

Re-install the software from the start, being careful to make sure that you don't miss updating includes/functions/html_output.php

Hope you like the software!

Re: Ceon URI Mapping (SEO)

Hi,
I am having a little problem with CEON URI mapping.
A product like:

Raccordo 3/8" a T F

is mapped as

raccordo-3-8-t-f

losing so the means of the name.
The mapping I would like to have for this product is

raccordo-3/8"-T-F

I guess there is no solution because the / and the " are not accepted as part of the URI, and a rule that will keep the capital letters would apply to any other product.

If there is a solution please let me know.
The rest is working really well. Thanks

Hi Enzo,

enzo-ita:

Quotes aren't but slashes are fine. However, most people see slashes as "sections" so they aren't part of autogenerated words

enzo-ita:

and a rule that will keep the capital letters would apply to any other product.

That's right.

enzo-ita:

If there is a solution please let me know.

Yes, simply manually enter your URIs if you have URIs which don't suit the autogeneration algorithms.

You can't use quotes, they're not valid characters, so your two options are:

raccordo-3/8-T-F

or

raccordo-3-8-T-F

Well, a third is:

raccordo-3/8inch-T-F

As I said, you must enter these MANUALLY.

All the best..

Thanks.
I am not sure were I should enter the manually.
In the db or in the product page?
I tryed in theproduct pèage but it does not work, it returns to it's original description when you save even if the box for the auto generation is not ticked.

The product page.

You must have messed something up when you installed the software. Please get in contact with FTP and admin details for your site and I'll take a quick look.

Re: Ceon URI Mapping (SEO)

If Zen Cart was installed in a subdirectory, can the URLs be without the subdirectory? I want to change the URLs a few at a time and get rid of the subdirectory reference.

Yes, you can enter whatever you want for the URIs. As long as two URIs aren't exactly the same, you can make them whatever you want!

Hi Rhian,

I have changed web host since then

I thought maybe you'd installed a new version?

Quite simply, the error you are having is normally caused by html_output.php not being modified.

I'm guessing that someone has upgraded your site to a new version of Zen Cart? And in doing so wiped the URI Mapping modifications.

If someone uploaded a new version of Zen Cart for you you should get them to download the latest version of Ceon URI Mapping and install it for you (as this will have been their fault).

If you're still having trouble get in contact with me with FTP and admin details for your site and I'll see if I can get things fixed quickly.

All the best..

Re: Ceon URI Mapping (SEO)

Hi Conor

Thanks for your reply, my webhost could have changed or re-installed zencart during the file & database transfer, I'm still using the zencart 1.3.8a but I'll check. The webhost also installed an ssl certificate for me, I don't know if that affects your module.

thanks for your offer of help, I might have to contact you if I get into difficulty

the URI module has worked brilliantly, so I think something could have been wiped without me knowing and caused the button problem.

I'll check the file you mentioned
Thanks for taking the time to get back to me
