Contest System [support thread]

By the text of this page it makes me think that it will pull data on customers who made purchases and list them. I can then add them to the current contest from here based on the fact they made a purchase during the contest dates.

Yes it will pull data on customers who made purchases. By clicking the confirm button it will add them to the contest.

Thanks for the typo info 'brought' should be "bought".

Oh, just a possible bug heads up, nothing major. But if you choose not to use a qualifying question, the submit button disappears.

This was a known bug it has been fixed in version 1.4 I uploaded v1.4 today so give it a day or two and it will show up in the software add on section.

Re: Contest System [support thread]

Skip, I've been running it and it's been great. We are getting lots of "real" traffic and it's generating sales...

Thanks...

Re: Contest System [support thread]

I love the mod, but I have a couple of concerns:

I went and tried to the enter the contest to make sure everything was going okay, but then I ran into a problem.

I enter all the information

But then this is the error I get at the top:

Error: Your name must not be empty.
Error: Your e-mail address must be a valid e-mail address.
Error: You have not entered an answer to the qualifing question.

But when I go in my admin under contest prize entry the name & email was there. How can I get the errors to disappear when submitting the form..........

Also I picked a winner for last month winner, but I don't think the winner received the email

I could not recreate your issue on my test system.
But I did enter your contest and did get the errors.
I have attached a zip file with version 1.5 file of tpl_contest_default.php that I have been working on that might have the fix you need.
Backup your existing /includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_contest_default.php file.
Unzip the file and upload tpl_contest_default.php to
/includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_contest_default.php replacing the original.

Depending on how you run your contest you could re-email the winner.

After feather investigation into your error. What I have found is that your contact page is also having the same issue.
So that leads me to believe your theme is causing the issue.

I am not 100% sure about that but you might want to try and get the contact page error fixed and once that is fixed I feel the contest page will also be fixed.

Re: Contest System [support thread]

Here is what I did on your contact page.

  1. I did not enter any info and clicked send.
    Got the three error messages.
  2. Next entered email info and clicked send.
Still got all 3 error messages. This should have changed to show only two error messages.
  3. Entered name and email info click send.
Still got all 3 errors messages.

I am at a loss there is something trapping the values that are not seen by the error trapping code.

What add on mods to you have loaded may be I can load them in my test site and try to recreate the errors.

Diva Boutiques

I just tried your contest and got the errors as mentioned. Try to add a qualifier question and see if that helps.

Skip, once my contest ends I can't seem to get to the rules or past winners page. It keeps taking me to the contest end page. It appears that the only way I can access either page is to have contest going. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ibparn

To edit/add to contest winner page you use Define Pages Editor under tools and selecting define_contestwinner.php or to change the rules information you edit define_contest.php

As for showing rules and winners these pages are only active if a contest is running.

Did you do item 2 of the install?

  1. In your admin directory run install-sql-contest-v1.5.php this will up date your
database. (After running you no longer need this file you may delete it.)
Note: This sets the product_id to 2 for the prize. If you do not have a product_id
2 an error will display. Just go to admin->configuration->contest and edit the
prize id to one of your product IDs.
Note: Log into your admin after you are logged in paste install-sql-contest-v1.5.php into
the url address replacing index.php and hit enter. Once it's done you just need to click
the back button to get back to the admin panel and you will see the 2 menus, 1 in
    configuration and one in reports.

Re: Contest System [support thread]

Yes i did exactly the same. It created the database and i have a contests option under configuration but not under reports. I have the sidebox setup and it looks good. But without the contests in the reports its a problem.

But without the contests in the reports its a problem.

Look for admin/includes/boxes/extra_boxes/stats_prize_draw_reports_dhtml.php file. This is the file that loads under the report dropdown.

You might want to double check that all the admin files where uploaded to the correct location.

Re: Contest System [support thread]

OK - I fixed it - in the uploads folder the contest end is in the YOUR_TEMPLATE folder and it should be uploaded to /includes/languages/english/html_includes I moved it to there and now we are up and running again!
