The right way to do this is to post the solution you found, so the other guy with similar problem can benefit.

Re: SitemapXML v.2

Hi hope you can help me.. im alittle confused. and still fairly new to the whole Zen cart system.

I've installed the SitemapsXML to my Zen cart 1.3.8a, and its showing in admin>tools as it said it would. but when i go to the other locations! (admin>configuration)Its not there??? When i go to Admin>tools>install sql patches and run the Install.sql, i get an error message just saying Failed at the top of the screen.

When i go to google webmaster tools.. it tells me that i have no sitemap installed?

and im still new to all this! and learning every step of the way! but i used notepad ++ to read the readme file and followed its instructions to the letter.

Can you please help me?

(im hopeing i've just installed it wrong! but need you just to confirme that for me! --- i uploaded the admin folder, then i uploaded the includes folder, then i uploaded teh CGI bin folder... and then i uploaded all the other files to my public HTML. (main shop directory) is there something im missing??????

THANKS

You can not upload the sql patche, you have to copy and paste it. Open it in note pad, copy the code, paste the sql patche in Admin>tools>install sql patches. You should now have it under configuration in your store.

Re: SitemapXML v.2

Hi, there

I would like to know why the link of ask.com inside 'tools->sitemap xml' is unaccessible. When I click on that link, firefox always reports 'Unable to connect'.

Why and if this have any effect on submission to ask?

Thanks for your help in advance,

Hi, there

Don't know why it is inaccessible.
I created an account with Ask so it should give me access to the https.
The http:// link redirects to main page.
However, submissions work OK.

Re: SitemapXML v.2

@berezin
cURL Error: "** malformed**" reading ""
Please note the extra double-quotes.
There must be a typo somewhere.
Submissions work OK, but I get that error at the end of the report.
Maybe that explains some Yahoo complaints?
Thanks.

Hi ckosloff

Thanks for your reply.

Right, submissions work OK and without that 's' behind http, the site could be accessible, too.

It looks like an account is not require to submit to ASK, right? All other 3 big SEs have asked me to create an account with them to authenticate my site.

All the best,

Ask does not require an account, it is not a requisite for submission.
In fact their account has not much to do with site development, or at all.
I find that the inner workings of their site are awkward, cannot find a webmaster area, etc.

Admin -> Configuration -> Sitemap XML -> 'Generate language_id for default language' - set to false

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for the mod.....

I have found a problem with this fix ..... changing this setting to false only corrects the products xml file.... the categories and reviews xml files still have the language=en in the url

Sorry.

What I found is that you just have to follow the directions to the T.

Where it says to add files to template_default, I was putting them file in my custom template file.

That was the solution to my problem.

Hope this helps somebody. Again, sorry for not posting what I was doing wrong.

Admin -> Configuration -> Sitemap XML -> 'Generate language_id for default language' - set to false

If you have already created your Sitemap files and then change to 'false', you need to delete all your current Sitemap files and recreate them in order for the "language=" statement to be removed.

Re: SitemapXML v.2

Does SitemapXML do something different than the non-zencart specific sitemap-generators at code.google.com/p/sitemap-generators/wiki/SitemapGenerators ?

Thanks!

I don't think this can have any impact in the working of this mod.
The mod loads the file in template_default so you can customize it and put it in your custom template.
That is the way Zen Cart's templating system works.

Just makes your life easier by automating the process.

Re: SitemapXML v.2

ckosloff:

Hey ckosloff, small world, eh?

It's great to have a sitemap generator uniquely tailored to zencart. I'm trying to evaluate software and/or services that helps with sitemaps for search engines. I imagine some have many thousands of users that have already worked the kinks out. Have you reviewed the others at the google site? I was hoping that because SitemapXML was written specifically for zencart that it would, for example, provide better coverage and/or include more intelligent processing based upon zencart insights and/or allow greater control over the generated sitemap or other features.

Reading the thread, I was surprised to find out, if I understood correctly, that urls from "define pages" are not included in SitemapXML v.2. That would be unfortunate if true, since I have installed the "Editable Sidebox" mod and have significant content in it that is essential for my SEO efforts. I believe that mod (although, frankly I may not know what I'm talking about) is based on an extension of the Define Editor.

Do you or anyone else have additional thoughts or comments based on my muddled thinking at this point?

If so, I'd love to hear it. Thanks to Andrew and the rest of the community.
